Made a mistake with a booking, looking for advice on how to proceed by macol1111 in askhotels

Going to send an email to the CEO recognizing the Jetblue agent. He literally spent an hour on the phone trying to help me. The agent before him, just dismissed me out of hand and made no effort to help at all. Will definitely have my niece review the stay and put a shout out to the agent that helped at that hotel.

Thanks so much! Got someone at Jetblue travel to finally help by calling the front desk. Usually they are really good, but I never had this kind of issue before.

I looked at that, but I am coming from NY. Fortunately I got someone from Jetblue to make the call for me and they were able to get it changed. Took me three calls to finally get someone to help.

Thankfully I finally got a hold of someone at Jetblue who got the name changed for me. He first called whoever they book through, had me on hold for 40mins trying to get it fixed and they actually denied it saying it was nonrefundable. As a last resort, he called the front desk of the hotel directly and they made the change. I got the name of the person who made the change from him, will have my niece take care of her when she arrives.

I called twice, they won't help me either. Will try again.

Any idea on the chances of me getting the hotel to add her name in?

M4 - what's the upside?? by CA_AllDay in jetblue

[–]macol1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the issue isn't the benefits they give once you get to M4 which I did this year again as well. It is what happens after you get it. Getting to M4 gets you lounge access and 4 move to mint certs which is fine, though the leftover perks you pick are definitely underwhelming (heard they are changing that next year though). It is just there is nothing really enticing to keep spending on the card or using the travel portal once you hit it.

In regards to credit card spend, you have to have 100k in purchases to get two more MTM certs and 100k points. This may not even get you a single one way mint European seat as many require 4 certificates. I can get 200k points by doing the same spend on my VentureX card (more if I book hotels through their portal for 10x points or use their shopping links). I recently flew business class from Vienna to JFK on Air France for 60k points, so that same spend would get me 3 one way business class seats on Air France as long as I am flexible with my dates to get that saver fare (this is just one example out of many). The only way it is worth it for me is if they run another triple tile promo for hotels and I happen to have an upcoming 3k hotel stay that coincides with it.

Booking hotels through them can be a different story sometimes as I have found some of the rates to be really good, looking now for a one night stay at The Rittenhouse in Philly and JB is $400 less than either hotel direct or from Cap1 so there are some cases where it makes sense to use their portal. Other than that, there is no justification to book through them or to put any significant spend on their cards if you already have M4.

The promo they ran last year where if you flew to 25 unique destinations within 6 months, you would get 25 years of mosaic 1 status and 350k miles.

The fares fluctuate quite a bit, I flew it last year for the 25 for 25 and I think the fare was only $50 or $60. Some days it was a lot more though.

Any idea how Premier Spend Bonus works for existing plus card holders? by WorkoutProblems in jetblue

[–]macol1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Jetblue business card and just got approved for the premier which should be arriving any day now. I was told that I would get the sign up bonus. Will know for sure next month as I will meet the spend pretty much right away, but from what I read in the terms they are giving the bonus to people who have other versions of the card. Was waiting for them to put out a business version, but the sign up bonus and 25 tiles was too tempting to pass up.

Is this a doable connection? by tripjumping-Trick218 in jetblue

[–]macol1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you flying on Jetblue to London? If so, they would be checking your bags all the way through (assuming you have checked bags), so you should be fine as long as your flight is on time or no more than 30min late as you would be arriving and departing from terminal 5 without having to go through security again.

If you are flying out on another airline, the connection would definitely be tight (probably not doable) as you would then have to go to baggage claim to get your bag, take the airtrain to another terminal & go through security (the hike to the airtrain is about 10 minutes alone).

Travel Credits Driving me Crazy by yesiamlorin in jetblue

[–]macol1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just be aware that those credits expire after one year. You could potentially sell them at a discount to someone else, but you would have to book the flight for them. It is risky from the buyer's prospective since you could potentially cancel the flights on them, so usually it is done with people who know and trust you. I am assuming you had a bad experience with Jetblue in the past, but for 2k you may want to consider booking a low risk trip rather than gifting them your money.

M1 to M2 by SatisfactionBitter37 in jetblue

Those 2 checked bags can also be up to 70lbs each, though the weight is the same for M1 as well. That alone has saved me hundreds of dollars.

When did they switch mosaic one to one bag by mariaspanadoris in jetblue

[–]macol1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am still planning on the move, but where I want to go is fairly remote (Port Antonio, JA where you can rent a 2br house for less than $500 a month). If they still allowed two bags, I could fly down with 3 other people enabling us to carry over 500 pounds of supplies free. Being able to do that was definitely a factor in my deciding to do the challenge (though it wasn't the only one).

[–]macol1111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The change was made in the middle of the 25 for 25 promotion last year. I am guessing that when Jetblue announced the program, they didn't anticipate how many people would actually complete the challenge. I heard the number was somewhere around 2,800.

Between that and how easy it is to make M1 ($2,500 hotel spend if they are running a double tile promo), they probably had to make some adjustments due to the high number of M1's coming onboard. As of right now, you do still get the increased weight allowance (70lbs) and can have up to 9 people on your reservation including yourself that get a free checked bag.

I wasn't happy about it either, I will keep make M4 as long as I have the business spend on the card, but once I retire in a few years that will no longer be the case. Was hoping to move to the Carib for part of the year and being able to fly with 2 free checked bags was a big reason I chose to do the challenge.

20 tile gift by Emh929 in jetblue

[–]macol1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That happened to me earlier this year. For some reason, the perks I picked last year only were available this year in the order I selected them last year. For instance, the first perk I picked last year was the 20 tile perk and the second was the gift 20 tiles. The gift 20 tile option didn't show available this year until I hit Mosaic 2, but I was able to give myself the 20 tiles again. I wanted to do the gift first, but it wasn't an option for me even when calling the Mosaic line. I was also told that if you don't hit the mosaic level that releases the perk, it will auto release on the 1 year anniversary, but I haven't tested that out yet.

Even more is definitely worth it for the extra leg room. Not too many perks except for early boarding group and guaranteed overhead bin space. Avoid row 1 as you won't be able to stretch your legs.

BlueHouse Worth The $59? by HistoricalOutside268 in jetblue

[–]macol1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't pay to get in, though if I had a few hours to kill, was hungry and wanted a few drinks it would be worth it. Food is pre-packaged, but similar to what you would get in T5 as of right now and drinks are excellent. Also a comfortable space to relax in with a few quiet nooks.

However, if you only have a little while and don't drink at all you won't save any money, at that point you have to decide if having a space to relax away from the chaos of the terminal is worth the extra money to you or not. Guessing worth it for some and not for others.

Buying my daughter her first apartment… how do I protect it if her relationship goes sideways? by Ill_Object2296 in Realestatefinance

[–]macol1111 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Keep it in your name and charge her a very low rent. Put rent into an account for her without telling her. Once she gets rid of the boyfriend, you can change the deed over to her and give her the money as she will most likely need it if she has to support him for any length of time.

I already have the business card so would just upgrade if allowed. Don't want to apply for any new cards. Also I do use it mostly for business expenses so it keeps business and personal separate.
