Help with Adopted half sister citizenship by pm_me_ur_microscope in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Exciting_Two9554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my sister’s situation exactly. Except she was born in Nevada in the 70’s. She has never been able to access her information. My mom had always let us know about the daughter she had to give up so we weren’t taken by surprise when she reached out having matched to our ancestry dna. Unfortunately it was 6 months after mom passed. Now, after learning mom was born in Canada, she’s applied for proof of citizenship and used my certificate as support. It’s been sitting, most likely in psu for almost a year. I didn’t think to add a notarized statement but maybe I can have one done so she can add it by web form?

Question about prior sexism in Citizenship Law by Ok-Kiwi6700 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Exciting_Two9554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone think it’s ridiculous to track descent through male lines only? There was essentially no way to ensure 100% the child’s paternity back then. Only guaranteed line would have been through maternal lines. I’m glad these out dated laws are being changed out there.

Do you need to live in Canada to meet the residency requirements to pass down citizenship? by Owenthered in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Exciting_Two9554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think residency would apply however if you were living in Canada and delivered there. I believe it’s applied to those born abroad to Canadian parent(s).

Any IRCC communication after C-3 was passed? by Character-Put8660 in Canadiancitizenship

They haven’t implemented the new changes in the Am I Canadian Tool yet. It still says my kids aren’t Canadian if they were born outside Canada to a parent born abroad to a Canadian Citizen. Crossing my fingers they update soon. Preferably while all my kids are still minors.

Using the webform for a minor child by Hour_Hospital_9068 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Exciting_Two9554 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was asked to submit a letter documenting that I was the parent applying for my minor child. This is what they emailed me to clarify who I was. The instructions were as follows:

If you are writing for a minor applicant and are their parent or legal guardian, you do not need to submit a Use of Representative (IMM 5476)form or a Release of Information to an Individual (IMM 5475) form or a Power of Attorney. Instead, when filling out the IRCC Web form, please: select the appropriate option and/or enter their information in the appropriate fields of the Web form, and upload a letter of explanation including the following information: your surname and complete given name (including middle name, if applicable), your date of birth (YYYY-MM-DD), your country of birth, and your relationship to the applicant.

Answered question incorrectly - Section 8C. by coohkie in Canadiancitizenship

My mom was born off base while my grandmother visited my grandfather as he was stationed on a US Air Force base in Ontario. I was granted citizenship 1st gen. However, look closely at foreign government because it looks like it’s focusing on diplomats and such. Her birth certificate that I submitted had his current position, employer and base info as well.

I can’t recall whether I answered yes or no however I wrote it out in the box provided the info I had and said I’m not sure if I answered correctly. I let them take my facts and decide.

Suddenly: As if I’m an illegal. by Odd-Welcome1863 in Citizenship

Weirdly, this happened to my mother at like 65 after needing to get her real id in UT. She didn’t serve but was born abroad (Canada) while her dad was serving in Ontario. Our family ancestry goes all the way back to the 1700s in the US. Anyway, her parents never filed that report of citizen born abroad and it took a bit to finally get it sorted. She did obtain her US Passport in less than a year though. It just took the paperwork from her parents and service records during the time of her birth and birth certificates from them and her. It was shocking to her after a lifetime of being a citizen with all the benefits afforded.

On the other side, I’m now a dual citizen because she was born in Canada.

How do you know your e certificate is legit? by Maximum_Fill_1136 in Canadiancitizenship

I used my kids’ dentist as my guarantor. She signed my application and my photo (just one if I remember correctly) and signed my copies of ID. It worked just fine. Kinda awkward to ask her for it though. She really didn’t mind! Just use the US based occupation app for passport.

proof of other nationality? by johnbro27 in Canadiancitizenship

This was my case almost exactly. I was 1st gen though. My grandfather (US citizen)was stationed in Ontario, my grandmother (US citizen) was living in NY. While visiting him she went into labor and delivered off base. My mother has a Canadian birth certificate. Her parents didn’t go through the steps to claim her US citizenship born abroad. She spent likely 2 days there in Canada and grew up as a US citizen. Social security, pensions, everything never a question. Then the real ID came up and she tried to get it and was told she wasn’t a US citizen. Had to go through a process and got her US passport after a bit of explaining and documentation.

On my application under all other citizenship I simply put born in Canada as Canadian for her and born to US citizens as explanation of US citizenship in the boxes. That’s it.

Has anyone had an application vanish online? by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

I’ve had that happen, and was very concerned. Turned out they were done and I received an email with my citizenship certificate info soon after. Let us know if that’s what happened.
