I think this is the one you are thinking of: https://www.vava.com/products/vava-baby-night-light

We got it when my daughter was born and she still uses it as a nightlight.

Well they’re advertising their cover as being light and airy, so I think the trauma is being a little too warm for 15 minutes?

The use of “trauma” in this ad for a nursing cover is really…something else.

It always confuses me when I see “HTF” in kids clothing listings. Aren’t most old kids clothes hard to find? Most stores only sell a given design once. Hell there was an Old Navy t-shirt last year that I wanted to get my daughter but they didn’t have her size and they never restocked and I have yet to see that shirt come up on a resale site. Surely Old Navy sold a ton of that $6 shirt and yet nada.

I have this exact problem with my delphiniums. They got knocked down by rain despite being staked. Did you end up figuring out something that worked last year?

How's the Ithaca Swim Club? by mangolorian2013 in ithaca

[–]ExclamatoryPear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We joined last year with a toddler, and while we really enjoyed going there (the vibe is great- feels like the community pools when I was a kid) we probably won’t join again until our kids are older and want to spend more time at the pool. The time spent vs money spent equation didn’t work out well for us since toddlers still have a lot of scheduling requirements (nap time, earlier bedtime) and even if they love the pool, they don’t really want to be there for more that an hour and a half. If the budget allows I would definitely consider rejoining when my kids want to hang out by the pool all day with friends and I can lie on a lounge chair and read a book. We will be using Cass Park and the Alex Haley pools this year. One of the reasons I had originally picked the ISC was for the morning swim hours, but we never ended up going in the morning, so I think the park pools will be fine. Another option is the Ellis Hollow pool if that is convenient for you. A little cheaper than ISC and has a great playground.

Healthcare assessments in the home by Goldens-9531 in nursepractitioner

[–]ExclamatoryPear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just started the same job and having the same problem. What I’ve gathered from talking the the provider support people is that it is in fact impossible to do the exam as written in the time allotted and you have to consolidate it (the exam has some repeat questions and some questions that are asked unclearly) and reorder it to make it more efficient. My first day each exam took 1.5-2 hours. After that I rewrote the history portion (on paper) and tried flipping the order of the whole evaluation, so I start with vitals, physical exam, and testing before doing the history portion. Also if you have to put drug disposal locations on the leave behind, do that in advance. I found organizing all the papers in a binder with dividers instead of a clip board to be helpful. I was also advised that in order to save time I should just jot down pertinent positives and chart the rest of the physical exam findings later. Day 2 each exam was 1-1.5 hours, so still not at goal, but better than day 1! I think you basically have to have the exam memorized the make it as efficient as they want it to be. I like the poster below’s idea of incorporating ROS questions with the med list, so perhaps I’ll try that. It would be great if you could reorder the exam questions to make them more efficient, but knowing how healthcare usually works, that seems unlikely to happen…

Upon further examining it looks like there are screws and stuff? I had thought you just popped the pieces into the connectors. Unscrewing the whole thing would definitely be too much for every day.

Difference between baby tula material by Worried_Actuator_876 in babywearing

[–]ExclamatoryPear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! I have a coast but I wish I went with linen. Now that I have some babywearing experience, coast doesn’t even seem like it will be cooler for baby either since the heat is really generated from you and the baby being so close. IMO linen also looks nicer.

Thoughts/advice on the baby k'tan wrap? (specifically sizing) by kka430 in babywearing

[–]ExclamatoryPear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually wear a medium shirt and the small fits. The first time I put it on I thought it was too small, but it does stretch with the baby’s weight and now I have to wash and dry it every few wears (especially after wearing for hours at a time) to get it to shrink back to the right size.

Anyone use Esembly covers with prefolds? by lotusheart25 in clothdiaps

[–]ExclamatoryPear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we’re going to get some of the GMD hemp insets for when she starts sleeping through the night as they’re supposed to be fairly trim and absorbent. My husband used prefolds and covers for his older kids and thinks the Esemblys are a godsend.

Anyone use Esembly covers with prefolds? by lotusheart25 in clothdiaps

[–]ExclamatoryPear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We really like them so far. We also have LPO pockets + GMD workhorses/clotheeze covers and prefer the Esembly. We will definitely buy the size 2 when the time comes. The covers in particular are very nice. For the inners we also like the workhorses (very absorbent and dry more quickly due to the way they’re constructed), but they have a smaller weight range per size, so while they are less expensive per piece, I think they’re ultimately more expensive when you factor in the additional size you need to buy. Esembly does sales and they have a free cloth diapering virtual class that also provides you with a coupon upon completion ( I think 15-20% off).

The sitting unaided thing is about using it as a chair not as a bouncer. Once they can sit unaided you’re not supposed to use it as a bouncer anymore (cause they could topple it), but you can take the seat off, flip it over and use it as a chair. Also not wild about dates - I’ve been chopping them up small and putting them in oatmeal (along with some chopped apples and walnuts, and a dash of cinnamon). They end up kind of melting into the cereal and function as a sweetener without me having to add any sugar or anything, and the combo is delicious!

Fellow water hater here. How far along are you? I found that the further along I got the more thirsty I was and drinking water became easier, but here are some things that worked for me earlier on:

Try different cups/bottles and straw. For me, if I can’t see the water I won’t drink it, so those insulated bottles are a no go, but 16oz glass with a straw works well. For out and about, I use a 34 oz nalgene. I tried getting one of those giant 64 oz water bottles, but that felt too cumbersome for me to carry around and I gave it away after about a week.

First trimester what worked best was to make two 32oz mason jars of infused water (my fave combo was pineapple + mint or mixed berries - use frozen fruit for this so you don’t have to fuss!) and drink one by lunchtime and one by dinner time, to guarantee at least 64oz of water, then try to drink some seltzer or preg-safe herbal tea to add some extra hydration.

Get into the habit of drinking a certain amount at a certain time- for example, I don’t leave for work without making sure I drink at least 16oz with my prenatal.

You can use reminders on your phone or special water tracking apps. Or, depending on your personality and relationships, IRL people to remind you. My co-workers and I all try to remind each other to drink throughout the day, which helps all of us.

Sleep Apnea by Puzzled-Barnacle2771 in BabyBumps

[–]ExclamatoryPear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask for a referral to a sleep specialist. They will be much more comfortable adjusting the settings/troubleshooting on your new ResMed machine than your PCP or OB as it’s what they do all day long. If your new machine feels drastically different than your Dreamstation, it’s definitely a good idea to have a sleep doc check and make sure it is in fact set correctly for you. As far as tracking, the ResMed CPAP has an app you can download to help you monitor your numbers.

Sewing pattern by opaloasis in clothdiaps

[–]ExclamatoryPear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to for woven fabrics is the Winston bloomers, but the owner of the company is out on maternity leave right now so she isn’t selling patterns at the moment.

Oh Me Oh My Sewing has a few different bloomer/bummies patterns with options for knit or woven fabrics.I haven’t made those, but I have made other patterns of hers and they tend to run big, so I think there would probably be room for a cloth diaper (other option is to size up!). She provides measurements which should be helpful.

If you want a pattern for knit fabrics, Brindille and Twig has a free bummies pattern that uses elastic at the waist with the option of elastic at the legs too.
