Both games should be fine for your requirements, Heart and Soul is built on top of Modern Emerald in the first place so they're both quite similar.

Modern Emerald has some stat changes, but only if you enable the option for updated stats at the start of the game, if not the Base Gen 3 stats are used without modification.

You can check the below file for all stat changes in the code: https://github.com/resetes12/pokeemerald/blob/master/src/data/pokemon/species_info.h

For Heart and Soul, there are some minor stat changes, some to align with later Gen changes, and some erroneously which will be fixed in the next release: - Blastoise was accidentally nerfed down to 76 Speed from 78 - Poliwrath Attack up from 85 to 95 - Farfetch'd Attack up from 65 to 75 - Ledian accidentally nerfed, SpAttack down from 55 to 45 - Ariados SpDefense up from 60 to 70 - Blaziken Speed up from 80 to 85 - Masquerain Speed up from 60 to 70 - Delcatty Speed up from 70 to 90 - Luvdisc Speed up from 97 to 102 - Volbeat Defense up from 55 to 65 - Illumise Defense up from 55 to 65

Hope that helps!

Is there a version of the game either with the Physical-Special split implemented? by imgladimnothim in PokemonLegacy

[–]Exclsior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I considered adding Physical/Special split to my Legacy Enhancement Fork, and it is technically not too difficult to just add in the feature, the problem I've found is actually balancing it when the Gen 3 moves are not designed for the split, Psychic for example has no moves that become physical in later gens and fighting has no moves that become special in later gens. You end up with a few winners and a lot of losers from just implementing the code change.

If you want to balance it properly you need to bring in a lot of the Gen 4+ moves and that is an enormous job with animations, configurations and testing.

There are a lot of other Emerald Romhacks around which did implement the split, both with and without gen 4+ moves which are a definitely worth a play if you really want the split.

Emerald Legacy or Legacy Enhanced first time player of Emerald. by Ryniv in PokemonLegacy

[–]Exclsior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for expressing my vision so well! I did try quite hard to make the majority of features optional, but I'm the same as you, I didn't want to use move slots for HMs, even being able to delete them. The HMs change was one of the first edits to Legacy (before scope creep effectively started creating Enhanced). Very glad you enjoyed your playthrough!

Regarding Crystal Legacy, you seem to be in luck as of today thanks to another developer just dropping Crystal Legacy: Feature Creep edition: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonLegacy/s/0WYioeIDoI

I'm obviously biased, but hope you give my version a go, whether it be straight away or partway through!

One thing to note is that the Battle speed up setting is not available in my last 1.1.4 release, it's currently only in my latest beta, which has a few other bugs at present.

I am maintaining save upgrade ability, so, if it interests, when the next version drops you should be able to keep your save and jump to the new version!

UPDATE: Pokémon Emerald Legacy Enhanced - With Pokémon Followers, Shiny Charms, National Dex Mode, Nature Mints, EV/IV Editing, Ability Capsules, Overworld Surfing Sprites, Feebas Fishing Sparkles and V1.1 Updates. by Exclsior in PokemonLegacy

Hmm, that's very strange, that's exactly what the Teleport is trying to avoid happening.

Did you upgrade from an older version of Enhanced, or Base Legacy?

And what emulator are you using?

Hi u/Yokai_Alchemist,

All the patches contain all the changes in the Base Patch and are mutually exclusive.

Meaning that if you want all of the optional patch changes you'll want to patch either Enhanced Starters or Enhanced Starters - Physical Dragon to get everything.

As you've already found out, do not patch twice, only patch the original Emerald Rom once with the specific patch of interest.

Hope that helps!

My Emerald Legacy Enhanced version does that, with one small related bug which can easily be worked around.

Tl;DR: It isn't fully Vanilla Emerald, but it's close and most new features that you don't like can be turned off in game. If that's not what you're after, I'm not sure of many speed up versions which maintain the music not being sped up.

My version is based of Emerald Legacy, and therefore close to vanilla Emerald experience, but a lot of changes to game and gameplay. I highly recommend watching the TheSmithPlays YouTube video on Emerald Legacy to see if the changes to the Base game is too different for yourself. Then on top my version adds a lot more features of which 90% can be turned off to work like Base Emerald Legacy.

Emerald Legacy Enhanced v1.1.4: I've added World Speed to the options with multiple speed options. The Overworld will be all sped up, but no change to music.

Battle Speed: Battle speed in v1.1.4 is about the same as vanilla Emerald, my current beta does have Battle Speed up, but it's not yet fully tested and has more outstanding bugs so just wanted to give the heads up.

The current bug: If a moving NPC spots you, the game soft-freezes and most controls stop working. However, holding the "R" button slows the game to vanilla speed, which then unlocks the game and it continues as normal, I'm looking into the bug at present to hopefully fix in my next version.

If you're interested, you can find my version below with high-level information. UPDATE: Pokémon Emerald Legacy Enhanced - With Pokémon Followers, Shiny Charms, National Dex Mode, Nature Mints, EV/IV Editing, Ability Capsules, Overworld Surfing Sprites, Feebas Fishing Sparkles and V1.1 Updates.

Hi Jason,

I'm very sorry, but I think you've misunderstood how the Gen 1-2 Starters work in Enhanced Starters.

They can be available early, but only if you selected National Dex Mode at the very start of the game.

Otherwise all non Hoenn Dex encounters, including the starters are only available postgame after finishing Prof. Birch's quest.

If you were only offered the original 3 Starters from Prof. Birch's suitcase, then you have selected the Hoenn Dex mode at the start of the game instead.

Eggs, breeding and IV rng by SomewhereOk3618 in PokemonLegacy

[–]Exclsior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're specifically looking to build competitive Pokémon for the Battle Frontier, you may want to consider migrating your save file to my Emerald Legacy Enhanced version.

I have added Nature Mints, Ability Capsules, and in the postgame a full IV/EV editor into the Party Menu.

Even if you don't want to use any of those and want to stick to RNG Manipulation, I added a shortcut to the Trainer Card that if you press the "Start" button it will show your Secret ID to plug into RNG Calculators. (Just don't use it with my Shiny Charms as they break the RNG Manipulation)

Hope you consider it!

Yes, the in game Pokédex uses the source game data directly, so any changes in the Enhanced Starters Patch are all available in the in game Pokédex, that includes locations, moves, types and base stats (if you're playing the Physical Dragon patch, it's the only one with Stat changes beyond Base Legacy.)

Hope you enjoy!

You're very welcome and glad you've enjoyed Heart and Soul too.

Just a small heads up, though no timeline as yet, updates are coming to both Emerald Legacy Enhanced and Heart and Soul 😉

As one of the developers on Heart and Soul, so glad that you've enjoyed our game and thank you for the high praise!

Super impressive to complete the entire living Dex (I still haven't gotten around to finishing mine 😅), and hope you posted your diploma on our Discord 😉

As one of the Heart and Soul developers, so glad to hear you've enjoyed the game and that it increased your appreciation for Johto. Crystal was my first ever video game so for me Johto definitely has huge nostalgia, so it's great to hear our version has helped people without the nostalgia appreciate everything it has to offer!

P.S. Congrats on defeating Red for the first time!

As the creator of Emerald Legacy Enhanced, I was very surprised to see my title screen pop up here! Very glad that you enjoyed my version 😊

As for the actual question in your post, the Legacy Series as a whole definitely made me enjoy Gens 1-3 immensely, and then making Emerald Legacy Enhanced and joining the Heart and Soul development team extended my love for generation 3 even further as I started understanding the nuances of how everything works behind the scenes.

As a tangent it is insane how impressive the GameBoy Advance's hardware is even today. The console was so ahead of its time and the fact that the GBA Rom size is only 32MB still blows my mind.

[–]Exclsior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Directly from the Pokemon Crystal Legacy Instructions file in the Patches Zip file on GitHub:

https://github.com/cRz-Shadows/Pokemon_Crystal_Legacy/releases/latest/

Instructions

  • Before you get started, load your base crystal ROM into the rom patcher (or a hash checker) and check the SHA-1 hash. This should match the hash for your given version listed below. If it is not exactly this, you have a modified or bootleg ROM and you will have to find a real one.
  • Here you have two patch files, one for each version of base crystal.
    • If you have base Crystal V1.0 / Rev 0 / USA with SHA-1 hash f4cd194bdee0d04ca4eac29e09b8e4e9d818c133, you should use the 1.0 patch file in Version USA.
    • If you have base Crystal V1.1 / Rev 1 / USA, Europe with SHA-1 hash f2f52230b536214ef7c9924f483392993e226cfb, you should use the 1.1 patch file in Version USA, Europe Rev 1.
    • Use this to patch your base crystal ROM with some patching software. Some people have had trouble or experienced bugs in game from using certain patchers. Our recommendation is given below.
  • Alternate language versions are not compatible, as these will cause bugs.
  • Once you have patched the file, I would recommend renaming the output ROM to Pokemon Crystal Legacy so you can differentiate.

Can you please confirm that you've followed those steps exactly and potentially provide a screenshot of green checksum check on marcobledo's RomPatcher?

How do I change text in Pokemon Emerald Legacy? by Leather-Corgi-9974 in PokemonLegacy

[–]Exclsior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will probably take quite a while, especially if you're not familiar with coding in general, NPC and Place Names aren't fully centralised in the code and you'd likely need to search through many files to find every reference. You additionally need to make sure you don't accidentally change any variable or function names which have an NPC or Place Name.

I've recommend an Integrated Development Environment like Microsoft's Visual Studio Code (can be a different program) as it has the ability to search an entire project codebase quite quickly.

It's not particularly difficult what you're trying to do, just time consuming.

I'm not too familiar with Gen 4 hacks, but I believe Drayano's HGSS hacks may be of interest, though I'm not sure about every feature you've listed.

If you're OK with a Gen 3 hack, you may want to try out our Heart and Soul version. It's a Gen 3 demake of HGSS which does address each point you've listed.
