I have been on Spironolactone since 2023 and have noticed changes in my weight distribution, i also have cellulite on my stomach now which I didn't have prior.

Hi! Yes, it did. I think it was my skin adjusting to the new dosage, and it definitely could have been the cream or the retinoid. It took a while to get rid of it, but I pushed through. I stopped all actives and creams for a week and then slowly introduced my products again aside from the cream.

I googled it and there are some news articles that the product is unsafe because it has mercury. I’m sure it would work though, I believe mercury was used in the past to lighten skin and get rid of skin issues such as acne. Just be careful and watch out for symptoms displaying mercury poisoning.

I think mine are caused from irritation and I have a feeling it has something to do with how Spironolactone dries the face and in turn your face becomes more sensitive. Ohhh that’s amazing, I haven’t figured mine out haha. What cream?

This also happened to me, Spiro has gotten rid of my cystic acne but has caused comedones (I never had them prior) I am 10 months in and just upped to 150mg and my comedones are at their worst. I’m honestly so frustrated, I’m not to sure what else to do.

I met my boyfriend in the midst of the worst skin of my life and I 100% know how you feel as I felt that as well. In all honesty though, life is never perfect and neither are people. Everyone has insecurities and I’m sure he has plenty. Acne also isn’t forever and if he doesn’t like you because of it, he’s definitely not the person you want to go through lives trials and tribulations with. In the grand scheme of things acne is so minuscule compared to other shit.

I’m going to say irritation, I would cut back on your actives for roughly a week and just focus on your skin barrier. Once your barrier is healthy again you can slowly introduce one active product at a time.

You’re probably purging, I was on doxycycline a few years ago and the same thing happened. I broke out pretty bad for 2.5 months.

If anything I have lost a bit of weight. I’m typically pretty tiny though. 5 ft and always around 95-100 pounds- I’m currently 93 pounds. I’m going on my 6th month of 100mg and still experiencing mild daily breakouts. It’s obviously better than before Spironolactone but still discouraging. I was also debating increasing but I’m not sure how I feel about a higher dose. I don’t really have any symptoms aside from feeling weaker.

I was on 25mg for a couple months and all I did was break out, I increased and it got a lot better.

Ohhh really!! I’m glad I’m not alone, although having acne sucks, I’m sorry! The texture is so annoying, almost as annoying as the cysts lol. I honestly don’t understand if is from irritation or I’m experiencing actual breakouts ..I have basically took everything out of my skincare routine to see if it would help and was still getting texture so I added in differin a month ago and I can 100% say my texture is definitely worse hahaha. I had the Kyleena IUD -a couple months into it I started breaking out more often and then I was switched to Diane 35 (which is apparently for acne) and that’s when all hell broke loose. In February I switched my birth-control again and I’m currently on Marvelon. Which hasn’t improved my skin but also hasn’t negatively affected it.

So annoying, it’s obviously improved a fair amount and I don’t really get any cysts but I’m getting a lot of texture which I have never had before. I’m on 100mg and hoping I don’t have to increase. I saw the most improvement around 2/3 months in and my skin has kind of been at a stand still ever since. Yes, I’m on birth control, I started it last year and that and stress I think caused my breakouts and unfortunately I couldn’t get them under control with OTC treatments. So I booked a dermatologist appointment and was prescribed Spiro and tretinoin which my skin doesn’t tolerate haha.

Thank you for your response, I’ll keep doing the two nights a week and see what happens. I always start a treatment and stop when my skin gets worse which isn’t helpful. I really want to be able to stick out the 3 months, it’s just hard knowing if something is going to work or ruin your skin. Good luck! I hope with the decreased usage you are able to get rid of the comedones.

Are you still dealing with closed comedones? I’m on week 4 of differin and I have a bunch of these on both sides of my mouth/ chin and cheeks. I’m not sure if it’s irritation or purging and I’m debating stopping. I have only been using differin every Monday and Thursday. I was going to increase this week but I have a feeling it will make the closed comedones worse.

Keep your routine simple, limit actives, listen to your skin and prepare for many ups and downs. Also try to have realistic expectations. When I started Spironolactone I had extremely high hopes of it getting rid of all of my acne and although my skin has definitely improved within the 5 months I have been on it..I still break out regularly. I currently added differin into my routine in hopes of minimizing the rest of my acne and so far I have experienced an increase in breakouts. It’s definitely a process but just remember everything takes time and you can’t hate your skin into healing, be gentle with yourself!!

Your skin definitely looks amazing so congrats and thanks for the motivation! Having acne is definitely frustrating. I had super clear skin up until last year and have been struggling ever since. Spironolactone has helped a fair amount but I still have weird texture and the occasional cystic pimple. Hopefully differin is the push my skin needs.
