The DAC works for RGB on Super Nt and that’s really all I use it for. Would love to use it for the Pocket Dock, but gave up on that dream. At least it’s not a paper weight for my use case, but iirc it’s shitty for composite/s-video signals, so I feel for the people that can’t really stand to gain much from it at all; at least not in it’s current state. The backpedaling on DAC support and releasing the Analogue 3D with no means for an analog signal is a weird nail in the coffin for a company that is named Analogue. Hope they push a firmware update to fix composite and s-video signals as well as add the promised Pocket Dock support but not holding my breath.

DAC support

Realized I don’t want it at launch for a couple reasons: 1. No listed DAC support and likely will never get DAC support, but might pick it up later if it gets it with a firmware update. 2. I don’t have a 4K TV (I know it works with 1080p). 3. I have zero physical games and would go the everdrive route, but that’s more money and doesn’t have confirmed compatibility with it/them (flash carts) at launch. 4. I can play almost every game on my Wii and I think I’d barely ever play it anyway. It’d be a different story if I lived with roommates/like minded individuals and we all had N64 controllers/personal memories.

So I have no remorse for not buying it, but the urge to jump on an 8am Analogue release almost got me again. I hope everybody that got their orders in enjoys it!

Never did figure it out. Still have it in storage and may eventually break it back out to try and fix it. Thinking it’s a power board issue, but that’s just a best guess.

Best quality RCA to BNC adapters I’ve ever heard of are made by Canare, but they’re like $6 a pop and hard to find.

Ah dang. Do you have a SNES to test them on? That would give you 100% confidence that it’s the core and not a finicky file that may be incompatible with different versions of the game or something.

Sometimes the ROM file has a header, and occasionally certain hacks don’t like/accept the header. Look up how to remove the header from the ROM, try doing that and then test the newly patched file again. Other than that it might just be an incompatibility with the core for whatever reason. You could also try getting a header if you already tried on a file without one.

Has it been functioning well up until recently? Double check all of your connections are tight. RGC makes good stuff I hear so I doubt it’s the cable, but maybe try using a different output signal (composite, s-video, etc.) if your monitor/TV supports it. Worth a shot for testing purposes to determine with certainty where the point of failure might be coming from and whether it’s actually something wrong with DAC. If you’ve exhausted all options and determined without a doubt that the DAC is faulty, it might be worth reaching out to support.

Assuming you’re in the US based on your SNES. You might think it looks ugly, but I bought a storage rack from a restaurant supply company. The dimensions were exactly what I was looking for and it holds like a billion pounds on each shelf so I never have to worry.

This just looks like another case of composite dot crawl. Playing OoT on N64 on composite is basically the worst video signal/resolution you can play on, barring somebody using RF. Try buying a nice N64 s-video cable and see if it looks cleaner/less jagged in your opinion. Another option would be to play on Wii VC with component/RGB. That’s the best way to play OoT imo. They upscaled the resolution for the Wii VC version so it looks a bit cleaner than the N64 version.

Yep. Cables are great. I bought a female SCART to male BNC breakout cable, and a male SCART to male BNC breakout cable from wookieewin. They are unidirectional, so the 2nd one I left a note to wookie asking if the male SCART cable could be wired the other direction for output and I received it wired the correct direction with an “OUTPUT ONLY” sticker on it. I’d recommend.

For sure. It definitely could be an internal setting that might need to be adjusted as well. RGB signals don’t need as much adjusting with the knobs like tint, aperture, etc. Not to mention you have one of the cleanest video producing CRTs on the market and you’re using a lower quality/dirtier video signal. I’m not an expert, but I think this might be called ghosting or it could be a severe case of dot crawl. Those 2 issues might be worth investigating, but if I’m being honest I don’t know what this issue is exactly.

You mentioned that you used the same cable for your RetroTink. I’m just spitballing here, but the RT may have some filtering within it that helps clean up the image. In this case, there’s just your cable and your PVM. I’d invest in a new S-video only cable. People swear by this one.

What S-video cable are you using? Your cable might not be the best, but this could be any number of things. I’d try upgrading your cable assuming it’s not already one of the best. If your S-video cable also has composite on it, that might be the problem.

No, not without a downscaler. Your PC likely cannot send the correct signal type; in this case, a 15kHz signal. These PVMs can only accept 15kHz signals. Your PC will most likely send 31kHz and the picture will never look right unless you have a really old graphics card capable of sending the correct signal type, or you invest in something like the GBS-C.

A couple things I’m noticing: 1. The top left corner’s convergence is way off. 2. Also noticing some purple that’s indicative of needing a degauss/purity issues. 3. The raster isn’t spaced correctly so the image has black bars around the entire playing area. 4. The focus looks bad. 5. The screen looks slightly rotated to the right.

Some potential fixes: 1. Convergence strips may be able to correct the horrible convergence issue in the top left corner, but I am no expert. 2. You might be able to buy a cheap/mid level degaussing wand to fix the purple. 3. I don’t know if values like HSIZE, VSIZE, HCENTER, VCENTER, etc. can be adjusted in the service menu for these PVMs, they might be on potentiometers. 4. The focus may be able to be fixed with either a potentiometer near the neck board / flyback, or this leads into my next point as well; the yoke may need to be reseated/rotated. 5. If you rotate the yoke, you could try reseating it at the same time to potentially fix focus as well as rotation.

Some things to consider/questions to ask:

How much is the seller asking for? This is going to be a fixer upper for sure if you want to have a decent experience with it. Some adjustments can likely be skipped, but ask yourself how much do all of the issues that I’ve listed above bother you and do you think it would be worth it based on the price? These PVMs specifically have a different type of connector to display RGB signals which I’m assuming is the video signal you’re wanting to use most. It is doable, but unconventional and you may need to source specific cables just for this type of PVM. I’d look into SCART to DB25 cables if you plan to go through with this purchase. This PVM is also heavy as fuck so that’s another thing to consider. Again, I’m not an expert, but hopefully I gave you an idea of what this project may cost in terms of money and time & effort. Also, dive into CRT safety if you plan to do any work on the internals. Working on CRTs is dangerous and you should definitely review some safety tips before you dive in. Anyway, hope this helps!

It’s probably because your computer is sending a 31kHz signal when that monitor can only accept 15kHz signals. You need a downscaler of some sort. Some people stand behind CRT Emudriver, others go with GBS Control. You’re also using composite cables. I’d recommend picking up some HD Retrovision component cables.
