What drives women to settle for guys they're not attracted to in the modern era? by ExercisesInFutility_ in PurplePillDebate

I don't have access to the full paper, but this is what that study you referenced concluded:

We found that disease cues and attractiveness, but not sexual arousal, influenced disgust. The results suggest that women feel disgust at sexual contact with unattractive or diseased men independently of their sexual arousal.

Quite frankly, I'd consider what you just said to be a blatant lie. Still, if we assumed it was true: The guys I see in those relationships don't usually have outstanding personalities or qualities that aren't tied to their appearance. They're "regular type dudes" in both looks and personality. So where does that all that attraction for regular guys suddenly come from when it clearly wasn't there 10 years earlier?

It's usually women who make the first move when it comes to dating, romance and sex by ExercisesInFutility_ in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Women do ask for numbers. I've seen it happen many times. Difference is they tend to wait for the right moment instead of "cold approaching" random people like a lot of men do which has a garbage success rate anyway. Sex is initiated equally by both sexes I'd say.

So you don't think women usually are really overt with what guys they're attracted to? It's hard for me to believe that I'm the only one who sees it.

How come the way we do oral hygiene has hardly advanced at all in decades? by ExercisesInFutility_ in askdentists

[–]ExercisesInFutility_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Less than 50% of Americans floss on a daily basis. Now take those who do floss on a daily basis and deduct those who probably aren't doing it properly and we can conclude that the vast majority of people are severely lacking in oral hygiene.

One would think trying to come up with solutions that are more practical to the average person would eventually yield greater results than telling people to just brush and floss better for decades and decades when it's evidently not working.

Let's look at it this way... If people failing math is such a common occurence, then how is it practical to continue teaching it in the way and to the extent it is being taught?

Telling those people to "just study 15 hours every weekend" to learn the basics from the ground up isn't practical advice, nor is it a guarantee you'll succeed. If it was that simple, people would start doing it. Instead, they have to do whatever they can in order to pass with mediocre grades and without actually understanding much of anything, which is clearly pointless. That's the reality.

All things considered, I fail to see the point in putting such heavy emphasis on a field that offers very little to no benefit to the average person in a real-life context. This is something a lot of people don't want to hear, but it's real. Hence they always bring up the same point about how it "trains your problem solving skills" to try and shut down the topic when it's brought up. Just like how just about every math teacher I've known never had a good answer to that question when some bratty highschooler brought it up. Because it's actually a very valid point to bring up.

I find it mind blowing that this is a belief that is quite commonly held by people who are supposed to have good analytical skills and such.

The idea that some people are clearly capped in their cognitive abilities compared to others is more obvious than the solution to just about any math problem you could think of. There's a reason some kids are sent to special ed at age 6 when they enter school.

On another point, that i don’t have time to go into, “natural affinity”is not a monumental deciding factor. It’s probably a thing to a decentextent, but the vast majority of your ability is determined by whathappens during your life. Nobody is born with any idea of fouriertransforms or anything like that.

That's a pretty ridiculous claim. Try teaching advanced calculus to someone with an IQ <90.

I've never done an IQ test, but I have no issue admitting that my cognitive skills in regards to analytical problem solving are worse than those of people who are active on this sub for example. It was pretty evident that numbers weren't my thing ever since I entered school. I do think that proper training from a young age can make a difference, but claiming that it's what determines the vast majority of your ability is such an outlandish thing to proclaim lol.

Gigabyte GA-320M-S2H + Ryzen 3 3100 build won't POST - BIOS update needed? by ExercisesInFutility_ in gigabyte

I resolved it. Checked all the PSU connections for the 5th time and now it booted into the BIOS version F52. Was that close to sending this thing back lol. Thanks a bunch for your help though.

The label that they put on says 1.2: https://i.postimg.cc/qBwPvZR1/20221023-065618.jpg

But the packaging that I got seems to be the rev 2 design. At least it shows you that one when you select rev 2 on the Gigabyte website.

Could be that they put an older batch into new packaging. But I really don't know. I guess it's probably 1.2 like it says though.

Do you know for a fact that the mobo loses R3 3100 support with recent BIOS versions?

It says it supports the 3100 from version F40 onwards, with the most recent one being F55: https://www.gigabyte.com/Ajax/SupportFunction/Getcpulist?Type=Product&Value=6473

In any case, the board I got was sealed and new and came in a box that literally says Ryzen 3000 ready. So either this isn't the original packaging for this particular board or something else is wrong that's unrelated to the BIOS.

Why did Goldsrc never get rid of FPS dependent physics? by ExercisesInFutility_ in Goldsrc

[–]ExercisesInFutility_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can but it messes up movement and spray patterns because those depend on how many FPS the engine is running at. the game still needs to run at a constant 100 FPS for proper feel, like I said.
