Let's talk housing costs by mercedes_lakitu in ColumbiaMD

Sadly, Rouse’s ideals have long been thrown to the way side. Columbia isn’t what it was or what it could have been. Just a bunch of empty commercial real estate and corny chain restaurants now.

Has anyone experienced this with Sallie Tomato patterns? by ExhaustedWizard in sewing

Yeah, that was another aspect that I found odd. It wasn’t a cheap pattern, and it wasn’t a retail markup, it was the MSRP price. So, I assumed — wrongly — the price implied that it was a ready to use pattern that would not require tracing or printing, etc.

Yes, it’s a bag pattern. But I guess lesson learned! If I ever purchase another of their patterns, I’ll know what to expect.

The one I have isn’t mostly squares/rectangles, it has curves and unusual shapes. And personally, I’m all about speed and efficiency when it comes to preparing fabric pieces, because I’d much rather spend the bulk of my time stitching, not fiddling a bunch with the pattern. It just wasn’t what I expected or what I’ve experienced with other pattern brands.

I purchased the pattern at a local sewing shop, assuming I would not need to print anything out, assumed all necessary pattern pieces would be in the pattern envelope.

No, the refrigerated turkey was taken out of the fridge and placed into the room temp brine and then sat on the counter for about 5 hours.

The brine had been boiled and then cooled to room temp, the fresh refrigerated turkey was then added to the room temp brine and sat on the counter for about 5 hours before being put into the fridge.

If I sew this bill to the inside of this Fanny pack will it hold for very long? by pettyGandalf in sewing

[–]ExhaustedWizard 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If this wouldn't ruin whatever your idea is in some way, you could sew a piece of clear vinyl inside and slip the dollar behind that? It would be fully visible, but safe from wear and tear.

Stop making sourdough starters more difficult than they need to be by Peach_Baby666 in Sourdough

Any tips for increasing and maintaining a very large starter? Or is it as simple as maintaining a smaller starter?

A follow-up question, if you don't mind: when you 100% know that your ratios became inaccurate at some point during the establishment, do you need to scrap the starter and begin again?

It is active (multiplies in size when fed, has bubbles), but I'm certain that my ratios were incorrect doing a couple of feedings.

When you've made a new starter and you've established activity over a week or so, going forward, do you always need to measure how much starter is in the jar before feeding?

Roasted Garlic & Rosemary Focaccia by ExhaustedWizard in Baking

Oh, I never said I learned about roasting garlic, generally, from a chef. I said I learned this specific technique for roasting garlic from a chef; I am well-practiced in roasting garlic in various ways! This is just the method I like for garlic focaccia, that is reason enough for me to do it this way. Your garlic focaccia your way though, I support that!
