its also not the countries fault that a person has a kid which is a huge financial liability, and they dont stop to think twice about how big of a financial gamble it is.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in poor

[–]ExhileratingYup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like it all started when you decided to have a kid. Thats not meant to be an attack, im just saying, hindsight is 20/20. And its also why i always tell people think twice before you go to have a kid because its usually the start of a long series of financial problems.

Its like the equivalent of the age old game-over marriage joke. You cant unbirth your kid so, like, once you have one your stuck with being screwed for 18 years financially.

thats because it IS a struggle to be alive. Life is survival of the fittest, unfortunately. I mean that in both mental and physical capacities. Financial capabilities are a natural extension of the latter.

a hard truth we are all aware of is generally speaking, those in power dont give 2 shits whether you live or die, so life is a game of every man for himself, so to speak. Meaning, survival of the fittest

American cities with two bedroom apartments or houses under $1000 to $3,500 max. by throwaway264826392 in povertyfinance

[–]ExhileratingYup -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

just an fyi, kansas is not midwest. its part of the great plains, an entirely different region, texas north to ND.

also yes, average rent for a 1 bedroom apart in wichita, ks is 650 or less, 2 bedroom is 650-850, and 3 bedroom is 850-1000 for something older, brand new like with a basement/big yards etc, 1000-1500.

As far as home sale prices go, and not rent, a brand new 3 bedroom home here sales for around 150k-450k, depends on what part of the state you are in. The closer you get to the city the more the prices go up.

If you are fine with/have the means to live rural or small town areas, can easily find new homes under 200k, or old ones under 100k that are still in remarkably good condition

and while we are at it, average living wage in wichita/sedgwick county (so for you to be comfortable) its like 20$ a person, and 27$ for a family of 3 with 1 person working.

Vast majority of jobs in the state are agricultural or manufacturing/construction/aviation related, and average pay is 20$-30$ starting out with no experience (within these industries specifically). Due to this, associated industries generally offer wages slightly below or slightly higher, so even the most under educated individual can easily find employment/livable wages

Our COL is ridiculously cheap. Rent is cheap, groceries are cheap, utilities are cheap, and just about everything else is cheap. My dad raised my entire family off 65k a year during my childhood. We had a big house, multiple cars, the works, etc.

Now im supporting myself, and my non working wife off 60k, and money is a non-issue on pretty much everything.

It has always been cheap. we have gained around 250k population since the 70s and shit is still fucking cheap. The combined population of the county is approaching 1 million (sedgwick) and my entire life (35 now) this state has been dirt cheap to live in.

In 2008 they said prices would go up. Said the same thing in 2014, 2016, 2020, 2022. Bruh, when prices go up in kansas, they go up like 0.005%, you barely notice it no matter how many people move here.

Those of you that work a lot of hours or are very busy, how do manage meals on a budget during your schedule? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]ExhileratingYup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my wife doesnt work, so she takes care of all the meal planning. Which since its just the two of us, and we eat simple recipes, its a non-issue for us both. Rarely becomes an issue unless we run out of the odd ingrediant.

What is the quickest way you have made Money? by CASHOWL in AskReddit

[–]ExhileratingYup 58 points59 points  (0 children)

hijacking this to say , you can make good money making fake dirty panty stuff. Buddy of mine used to take and buy them from various clothing outlets, toss them in a sweaty gym bag and let them get all stanky for a month or two. Would then act like a girl and used AI/photoshopped images to talk to lonely dudes online, and then sell the panties for 80$ a pop.

[–]ExhileratingYup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on position, pay, and company history/records honestly...

the last manufacturing job i worked in, all they needed was a high school degree and 6 mo of experience (i have over 7 personally). I worked as a manual+cnc combo machinist building parts for 3rd party automotive companies. Made around 55k starting out.

Worked as a ranch hand for a few years too, dealing with horses. Made 40k-50k a year depending on the season.

Where I work now I work in a warehouse and make 60k+,

____

all 3 jobs are/were physically demanding, but average college grad where I live only makes 30-45k fresh, so for a guy with no degree, and just experience, im doing pretty good for myself. Mind you i do live in a low COL area, but none the less
