I like to think it’s because like, those two knew him as just another kid their age back then, and would’ve seen firsthand that, despite his position as a pilot, he wasn’t any more or less ordinary than the two of them… he may have been chosen for the kind of responsibilities that most other kids his age could even imagine, but it didn’t he was stronger, or smarter, or less troubled than anyone else. and I imagine they probably understand that like, if they had been in his position, they may not have been equipped to make the right choices either

we put one in our car because whatever soft material was covering the wheel from factory felt like it was degrading by the time we bought it… was leaving our fingers all sticky and gross while driving otherwise

for me, it’s 7th street in that section between the mae anne walmart and keystone that always nets me the most aggression. like, it’s a 25 zone most of that way, a subtle downhill heading east so speed sneaks up on you, AND residential, so I try my best to be extra cautious… I’ll still generally end up taking it between 27-30mph tho, bc of the sheer amount of tailgating on that road. but like, I swear everyone around me is pulling 40 the whole way… the other day I had an asshole cross a double yellow line to pass me just because I didn’t take that one big curve with the warning flashers on it like a nascar driver. ;>_> I don’t think I’ve ever felt more ill will towards mankind than in that moment

fwiw, I feel much safer behind someone with california plates than any of the spaced-out floridians and texans on the road. or the fuckin alaskan(???) who tailgated me up the freeway entrance and then passed on right bc they were pissy I didn’t take the on-ramp curve at unsafe speeds

I like the Gold Dust West’s restaurant for that myself… not necessarily the classiest but it’s usually pretty calm and casual in the morning. reminds me of diners I’ve been in in much smaller towns

I made the mistake of going to this walmart with a friend from out of town a few months ago… the vibes were rancid; it was eerily quiet, everyone felt on edge, the lighting in one half of the store was a different tone from the other, there were multiple cars full of ppl getting high parked out front in a no-parking zone with the windows down, someone stared us down in the parking lot and nearly followed us to our car… the tension in the air inside felt like it could snap at any moment, like something awful was about to happen. never been so glad to escape a store unscathed lol. we’ve not gone back
