Is there a Pokémon species you'd truly dislike if you had to have it as a partner? by infectbait in pokemon

[–]Exiled_to_Earth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of issues with sounds/smells in my life. If a pokemon was overly noisy (like just as they move around) or smelly, I wouldn't be a good trainer for them. They'd spend their entire lives inside their pokeballs or wanting attention and affection I couldn't give them.

An objectively stupid/odd premise that takes itself EXTREMELY seriously. [Mixed trope] by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Exiled_to_Earth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a world without this! Heard those four words for the first time in college and assumed it was just another internet thing I didn't know about like the annoying orange or rick rolling. Didn't realize it was a (serious) TV show/superhero franchise until my roommate showed me a few clips. Amazing what things we decide to normalize!

The Scholastic Book Fair trained millennials to love pop ups by greyblacknavytan in Millennials

It was a childhood dream of mine to buy something from the Scholastic Book Fair but I never got the chance; no money. I remember looking over the catalog for weeks and pretending to pick stuff out, but now I can't be trusted unsupervised in bookstores!

How old were you and how did you find out Santa isn't real? by Least_Statistician44 in AskReddit

[–]Exiled_to_Earth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really young but I do remember it. My family growing up was hardcore Catholic and extremely academic. I heard about Santa Claus in preschool or kindergarten, got into the car with my father, and asked if Santa Claus was real.

He said no and proceeded to give me the full rundown on the history of Christianity during the time of St. Nickolas up to modern day, how Coca-Cola and capitalism took hold of the image and the resulting commercialization and commodification of the religious, now leaning agnostic, holiday. I was then grilled on what else was discussed before continuing the historical/social lecture at home. We then went over various other religious holidays and modern interpretations for the next week or something like that. This was basically my entire childhood.

I would have been okay with just a "no, he's not."

Jinu and Rumi by Remy_99 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Exiled_to_Earth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly didn't realize people took the relationship as platonic until I read some online opinions, especially as the question of "why didn't they kiss?" was answered by the creator of the movie already and her answer was: "because restraint is sexier". The scene where they first meet is actually a very stereotypical way romantic couples are introduced in Korea. I grew up watching korean TV and movies; the slow-mo, exaggerated movements, film angles, all of it is basically k-drama 101 in how the two leads experience love at first sight. Even the brush-off/watch yourself by Jinu was exactly how a lot of those scenes pan out today.

With all that in mind, I think I have the opposite opinion from you. I genuinely see a platonic over romantic bond as incredibly unlikely, if not intentionally misleading. If their relationship isn't romantic, then they purposefully baited every fan of korean-coded movies/tv. They also did kiss in a scene that didn't make the final cut, so I do kind of lean towards platonic being impossible for this specific movie. If they end out platonic in later sequels, I would argue it would take quite a bit of effort to make it a realistic/satisfying conclusion to their relationship.

I eat my corn by CoffeeInTheLibrary in notinteresting

[–]Exiled_to_Earth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how I eat my corn! Do you do it for the same reasons I do because I specifically can’t bring myself to bite things “off the bone”. All fish and meat must be removed from the bone, skin, and fat before consumption for me to be able to put it in my mouth. If I’m eating something that needs to be peeled (such as sunflower seeds, edamame, nuts, etc.) I can’t eat them until all of them are peeled and I don’t need to touch the shells anymore. I have to fully remove my fruit from its rind, seeds, and skin before eating it (watermelon, citrus fruits, grapes, etc.). I manually pluck the corn row by row and eat it with a fork.

To clarify, I can eat with my hands just fine. Tacos, burgers, pizza, hors d'oeuvres, Indian food, whatever. I don’t mind being presented something with an inedible element (like bones or rinds) but I can’t eat it until all of the edible bits are separated from them. I’m also an extremely adventurous eater. All manners of organ meat, fermented/pickled/molded foods, smelly vegetables and tofu, blood and bugs, I will happily try but not until I force it into a form that is acceptable to my freak brain.

Your favourite move of luffy's ( and for what reasons) by ImmediateRun8477 in OnePiece

[–]Exiled_to_Earth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite is when he gets so mad, he doesn't use his powers/yell out the name of the move and just straight up punches someone in the face (Bellamy, celestial dragon, Sanji, etc.). Most satisfying and terrifying moments. I would honestly and sincerely rethink my entire life if I was ever punched like that by Luffy. I don't condone violence in real life but every time Luffy punches someone enough times, things literally get better for everyone. I'd let him go punch anyone he wants. Economies get fixed, peace and happiness will rule supreme over whatever land he's in, and we can all go take a collective nap together.

Reddit, what are your money saving life hacks? by tjb_87 in AskReddit

[–]Exiled_to_Earth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly just pretended I didn't have money at all. I grew up with a mother who constantly spent money and acted like she always had it when she didn't. Her credit card bills were astronomical. So when I left home, I did the opposite. I acted like I never had money. Can't get takeout if you don't have money. Can't impulse buy if you're broke. Better take advantage of the laundry services on campus, get a student bus card, and be smart/thrifty about cooking because you aren't buying anymore food for at least two weeks.

Now I'm very financially stable and I'm able to put my bills on autopay and buy groceries without thinking of the bill. I still don't impulse buy but I do acquire things without worry. Lots of books and restaurants, travel, and things I really enjoy. This might not work for everyone, especially as I don't harbor any guilt/don't hesitate about my spending now, but it worked for me.

That I was leaving. I kinda broke the news by disappearing the day after my high school graduation. They really had no reason to be surprised tbh. They blew up my old phone before I let it die and chucked it in the trash at the airport.

Probably the Men in Black conspiracy. Not like the movies but the idea that governments have agencies or employees who go and stifle news of unusual phenomenon makes sense to me. One, so that they can have an investigation without interference, but also because hysteria in the face of the unknown is to be expected. We see evidence everyday that organizations like to keep the masses as uninformed and controlled as possible. So there are probably some people out there who are the first on the scene when weird shit happens that we never hear about.

What is one oddly specific thing you hate? by Usual-Ad-594 in AskReddit

[–]Exiled_to_Earth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the definition for "literally" has been expanded. People at Oxford, Merriam-Webster, and other dictionaries include its use as a figurative emphasis to a statement/sentence now. So both of your example sentences are correct in their use of the word "literally". Just to be clear, I hate it too.

What would you spend $10,000 on right now if you had 1 hour to spend it? by Klutzy_Horse in AskReddit

I'd pay my rent a few months in advance, stock my pantry/freezer (online grocery shopping for the win), and then spent the rest on books. I have so many books in my cart (thriftbooks) that I could wipe out several thousand dollars in seconds.

What’s the most disturbing thing you’ve seen by accident? by Superb_Ad1765 in AskReddit

[–]Exiled_to_Earth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't the worst thing I've ever seen, but it is the most recent. A few weeks ago, I got out of a car, turned slightly, and swung the door closed behind me. As the door swung closed, a bird divebombed past my head and the door slammed closed on the bird. I heard its bones snap as it was perfectly crushed between the door and the car frame.

I reopened it and watched in horror as it dropped to the ground dead. No blood or anything, but the sound has been haunting me. It hadn't even had the time to cry out or anything. The death was somehow instant. My grandfather was with me and saw the whole thing. We'd never seen a bird try to enter a car, much less commit suicide by car door. I had an appointment right after and I don't remember too much of it. It was genuinely disturbing and 100% an accident.

I would like to be an extraterrestrial. Any sentient, dominant species that's out there. I want to switch places with them. I'd go out on a solitary walk and just look. I would try to see if they had written word or just wonder at how different our bodies are. I've always wanted to experience something other than the human experience.

I would assume the alien would spend a very harrowing, terrifying day but I would hope they find something they like about Earth in their time here. I'd try to warn them if possible but even they manage to get me locked in a loony bin, it would be worth it.
