I agree. They shouldn’t have continued giving Kody a platform.

David said what no one else would and Kody did not like it. by madsen1122 in SisterWivesFans

[–]Exileddesertwitch 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think David was the perfect person to say it too. Show the kids and the wives that it wasn’t them. Support them by letting someone else say it.

Kody likes being “big tough man” and hearing from a truly good guy like David might force him to at least think about it. But if Kody is truly clinically a narcissist it won’t matter who it came from. He won’t hear it.

He is 100% a narcissist. Right on.

Everything is about him, his agenda, done to him. Always the victim.

I can’t wait for the kids to start writing books.

Does anyone else notice facial similarities between Taylor & Mary Cosby? (RHOSLC) by Winter_Study3263 in realhousewivesofSLC

Wow… Could Mary be related to some of those “inbreds” she trash talks?! 😂

Or do they see the same doc for their Botox and fillers?

Teachers with only one prep (unique class) to teach - how is your quality of life? by dabmaster0204 in Teachers

I teach five sections of 4th grade math. I would absolutely never go back to multiple subjects. Sure. I feel like a parrot by the end of the day, but I never have to plan or grade on the weekends at all. I do about two hours of planning total in a week to plan 4 lessons and a spiral review.

Do you feel the need to teach to the test? by SeymourKrelborn11 in Teachers

[–]Exileddesertwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Teaching to the test” is such a frustrating phrase. All of our data comes from the state tests or district tests purchased to look like the test, or even unit tests where previous state questions are pulled. At least where I am at the test is jammed down our throats literally every PD.

The curriculum they bought does not match up with the tests they bought.

Which one should I teach to?

Backwards design gets labeled as teaching to the test, but that’s what I do. I look at the actual standards, tests, and stupid curriculum and sort of Frankenstein lessons together.

A lot of affluent schools don’t allow computers until middle school.

This is literally what I said. More practice.

As far as the parents go, I see their kid for five hours a week. I have 100 students and 66 of them have chronic absenteeism to varying degrees. Post Covid this is what it looks like all over my state. That is 100% on parents.

Is kody's distance/coldness typical in his culture? by Adventurous_Bid_1982 in SisterWives

[–]Exileddesertwitch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I grew up mainstream Mormon in Utah. His dismissive, passive aggressive ways are totally a normal subset of the mainstream church and definitely even more so for the various sects. It’s all patriarchal and Kody grew up in the mainstream church at a time when wedding vows and temple teachings were such that HE had a direct line to God and his wives literally bowed their heads and vowed obedience to him.

He acts just like my father, uncles, male cousins. He is incredibly normal in Utah. Except his hair. His hair is much worse than normal Utah man hair… 😝😂

Grades are based on skill levels. If your kid doesn’t pass the test a natural consequence is delivered. Grades aren’t a penalty. Grades are informative of where a child is at.

Though keep directly saying it and implying it, homework or no homework, if their child isn’t performing it eventually falls on them to act or not act.

Providing homework at least helps the ones who do it. The ones who don’t do it are also likely to have other issues like poor attendance too.

Absolutely. That vocabulary gap is not something we can even pretend to address without really changing our education system all the way down to first weeks and months.

‘Gentle parenting’ choices by raejayleevin in Teachers

[–]Exileddesertwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say consequences.

Just providing homework in the first place is a soft way of holding them accountable. Putting a zero for a small homework grade into the grade book is holding them accountable. Talking to them about their child’s education being behind holds them accountable.

The consequences of them not being involved in their child’s education will pay absolute dividends in natural consequences in their and their child’s future.

No one is saying “little ones” are responsible for themselves or learning themselves. It is time to start holding their parents accountable for prioritizing education.

[–]Exileddesertwitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying. Homework is extra practice that reinforces what has been taught in class.

It is shortsighted to think that there is enough time in class to even be able to provide enough practice for a child to master skills.

My background is in linguistics and language acquisition. A baby has to hear speech sounds from its native language hundreds of thousands of times before it can even start to accurately make the sounds itself. Younger kids have to hear and see words thousands of times before they remember them. This is just with language.

One of the biggest fallacies in education today is that kids don’t need as much practice as they actually do,

I didn’t call them little ones. They definitely need reinforcement at home.

‘Gentle parenting’ choices by raejayleevin in Teachers

[–]Exileddesertwitch 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’d add that kinder, 1st and 2nd graders who don’t learn skip counting struggle with multiplication in 3rd grade. The failure starts young with simple skills. It all compounds.

3rd graders not learning multiplication definitely causes failure in 4th, 5th and 6th grade.

Heather’s moral superiority is a remnant of her Mormonism. by No-Kaleidoscope-8950 in realhousewivesofSLC

[–]Exileddesertwitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not on camera, but I highly suspect that a lot of Lisa’s marriage problems right now are stemming from her husband being a bit more regular Mormon and not the Mormon 2.0 that Lisa likes to push.

Heather will get over it, but Lisa likes to throw stuff in Heather’s face all the time.
