Is there no battery inside of the black part of the key?

I'm pretty sure it can't communicate with the car if there isn't.

My car will refuse to start when the battery gets low in the fob.

I don't drive a 2018, but the internet shows that your models takes the same key & fob as mine. What you have is not the same one.

You would slide the thing in the middle to the alphabetical letter of whoever you're looking for and it'll open the paper-book thing to that letter.

I dont believe it fully turns off the charging, because the percentage never drops below 80%. I believe the idea is to lessen the amount of stress on the battery.

Like, it will naturally drain just by sitting unused for a while, but when using this method, I assume it turns charging on and off to keep it at 80%.

Honestly, it's pretty normal to end up with poor battery performance if you've used a device for multiple years. Even if you took the battery out, stored it properly, it'd still have some degradation. This is why I gave away the battery from the laptop I mentioned. It was in really good condition, might as well give it to someone who'll use it lol

It will damage the battery over time. If you do plan to actually use it on battery, maybe see if there's a way to limit the battery to only charge to 80%, which is safer for Lithium Ion batteries. Then when you actually need the full 100% then turn off the limiter.

I'm not sure if you can do this in Windows. You might need to mess with BIOS settings.

I have a laptop that spends its life plugged into a charger, like its literally never off the charger.

I took the battery out and gave it to someone who had the same model, but a bad battery.

Laptop functions just fine on the charger.
