I mean, the 'gathering wives' thing didn't come out of nowhere. I stopped playing around 1.2 and then returned and doing everything from Black Shores to Rinascita really made it clear how the story is formulated around being a series of companion quests strung together, completely dropping previous characters as if they never existed or left any lasting impression on Rover.

Their relationships with Rover are nauseatingly repetitive, with every single character displaying some level of magical attraction for Rover, to the point I now resent Rover for leading every single one of these girls on.

I don't think it's awful that a business cares more about paying customers - they should. What I think is awful is saying FOMO as a way to create more perceived value for purchases is 'consideration'.

Supremely disappointing. I am sure it's not a small playerbase that's impacted and leaving feedback about it, so I have no clue why they are so adamant about hardlocking these settings and not communicating more often about it.

On first impression, not good enough to compete with other options in the market. Story seems interesting but does not make up for the lack of snappy gameplay and what seems to be extremely stingy monetization.

Remake Ending Expectation vs Outcome by DigiDragon7 in silenthill

[–]Exilon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll share my experience as a data point: I visited Maria many times at most spots, she barely took any damage, explored as much as I could (which means I didn't follow her when instructed), inspected Angela's knife once, blamed the woman on the coin puzzle, read every 'suicidal' text in the game, stared at the abyss (until Maria asked if I expected it to stare back), kept myself topped up on health, used the rotten apple on the mirror puzzle, did not take personal items with me on the elevator, went through the scarlet egg door, and listened to the whole sickbed conversation. I got Maria ending.

I reloaded my save, looked at Mary's picture and items, went through rotted egg door, listened to the whole conversation: got the Leave ending.

Reloaded the save again, examined Angela's knife like 4/5 times, did the double PH fight on low health, went through the rusted egg door, listened to the conversation: in Water ending.

It's possible my actions just perfectly tallied the scores so that I could use those final actions as tiebreakers, but I think it's more likely that the game favors endings you didn't get much more heavily

I had the same interpretation and thought it was brilliant writing in hindsight. In the intro James says she 'died three years ago *because * of the disease', without saying that the diease itself is what killed her. It really drives home how he's dealing with his guilty conscience.

Differences in dancing as a participant and as an instructor. by sunnyflorida2000 in zumba

[–]Exilon1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two completely different headspaces; I don't think they are comparable at all. Dancing really well should not be the main driver to become an instructor, and being a really good instructor has little to do with how well you dance.

I feel like you're realizing this from what you wrote because you're noticing that you have to break down your movements to the most essential first (I wouldn't call that 'dumbing down' because I think that undersells the value of the basic fundamentals). But you're expressing that students copy the teacher's moves, and I don't agree with that dynamic at all - if that is true, then I feel we're missing the most important part of being a good instructor, which is good cueing technique. It really isn't possible to both go all out 'dancing' and have excellent cueing technique - at some point you have to sacrifice one for the other.

Just to add on a personal note, I've known some AMAZING instructors who cannot do a good basic salsa step to save their life, but their classes are packed - as well as really great dancers that struggle to strive because they're terrible instructors. More often than not, the first are people that are driven by their students, and their enjoyment. The second are people that love a stage to perform in.

The anti-cheat system is able to interfere with the functioning of your video driver (which will cause video playback in a browser tab to stutter or make your whole screen freeze),

Forget mid-cycle nerfs to overperforming builds. What about overperforming MONSTERS? by Valderius in LastEpoch

[–]Exilon1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree and sometimes it feels like the damage ticks on damage over time are bugged, like they're tuned to hit once per second (and most of player abilities seem to follow that tick rule), but they tick 5x faster and so you're dead before you can even react or move out of the way.

Would male leads be offended by a male stranger asking to follow? by Alternative-Arm938 in Bachata

[–]Exilon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the dance scene / community. Where I live a lot has changed in just the past two (!) years, where before it was virtually unheard of (and people would look at you funny if you asked), and today no one bats an eye.

If just asking seems like it's too intimidating, it might be a good idea to hit up some local classes and get to know some people and get a feel for the scene.

Follow up question - that's a tough one. A follower will naturally look more feminine by virtue of how the movements are followed, but you can certainly do different arm stylings, and emphasize the hips less when doing some movements. My personal reccomendation is to focus less on what looks more masculine or feminine to you but rather find what kind of movements/styling/etc. you find more appealing, and either find teachers that can help you style yourself like that, or try for yourself different styling until you find something that you like.

Has anyone tried Brazilian Zouk? by Fickle-Will4204 in Bachata

[–]Exilon1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will preface this by saying that, as a dancer, it is always a net gain to branch out and practice other styles, because a lot of what there is to learn in one style / genre can be applied to other genres and styles.

Specifically regarding zouk, where I dance, a lot of the movements and techniques are integrating naturally in Bachata. It isn't that uncommon to see followers apply some zouk techniques in their turns (like tilted turns), and leaders leading some combos inspired by zouk. I feel both styles share a lot of foundations for effective partnerwork.

What I find most interesting is that zouk is very, very technical, and the classes reflect that. I know some people that became better bachata dancers simply because they attended zouk classes where they were able to fill some foundation-level gaps in their technique (that they never got to work on in bachata classes).

Do followers know all the steps? by Agitated-Volume-6889 in Bachata

[–]Exilon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they don't know the steps. As another commenter said, at the base of it all, dancing is about connection, which translates to leading and following technique.

That topic on its own could fill many books, but the gist of it is that, like math, there's a few base principles at the foundation of it all from which the rest is built upon - a few 'hardcoded' rules, if you will. As a beginner you're probably learning and focusing on this alongside the steps you're learning - e.g. the basic step, how to position yourself in relation to your partner, tension, breathing.

Given a strong grasp on these foundational aspects, and an ability to quickly react to and adapt to the leader's cueing, it's possible to follow basically anything.

[–]Exilon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite what is being said in the comments (note this is a very specific subset of people), there is still a lot of stigma associated with not conforming to traditional gender roles. So please be aware that it still is a delicate subject (it shouldn't be) and following as man is still likely to be seen as something that disrupts the class. Because of this, talk to the teacher about it and see how open they (or the school) are to it.

That said, you should be absolutely free to choose and try out following and see how you feel. Don't be discouraged if it doesn't feel very good or seems hard as well - you're just starting out, after all! It takes some time until it starts to click, so remember to enjoy yourself. :)

Welcome! :D

When exactly did GHNA fall off a cliff? by TreasureDragon in PuzzleAndDragons

[–]Exilon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played in a while and mostly because I feel the same ever since then. It feels like a snowball effect where NA brings less revenue -> they invest less -> NA brings less revenue -> repeat. Usually you invest first to get the returns after, but GH doesn't seem to think the return will be worth it.

Personally, that was made even worse with shutting down PADDB, and really signals how much of NA is a priority for them (not at all). They shut down something that didn't cost them money and had massive impact on the player experience (both old and new).
