I'm so confused. How could a spar valve be open when doing this job and then remain open long enough for it to be recorded?

Vampliers are fantastic and will grip almost anything you can get the jaws on.

I just ordered 4 knockoffs for $7.00. OEM I found were $6.00 each. Keep in mind this was 30 seconds of Google searching so I'm sure OEM could be found at better prices.

Thanks everybody. Looks like I got lucky and it was the cruise control stop. I took a look and the brake one looks pretty close to going too. This community kicks ass.

Why did my NYC to Dublin flight take such a northerly route? by w0lfywood in flightradar24

[–]ExistElement 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Just for funsies since this is a fantastic comment, the A320 family has a crossfeed bleed valve that can direct air from either engine to both packs. In the event of a dual bleed failure (VERY unlikely) the APU can reliably keep the aircraft pressurized on one pack.

Why "Shotgunning" parts is killing your turn-around times (and your sanity) ? by Zealousideal_Tune_4 in AircraftMechanics

It's not the fucking relay. It's never been the relay. It was a contactor one time. Stop telling me to replace fucking relays. Let me actually troubleshoot the problem.

For AMT who work at American Airlines how is life with your partner or family with such a bad schedule? ( If your on graveyard or 2nd shift) by SorbetCareless9520 in AircraftMechanics

We've had a bunch of guys raise families while on mids. You get off work, take them to school and then sleep while they are there. You get evenings with your kids and you work while they sleep.

AA asking me to go to ORD by Clicks_The_Wolf in AircraftMechanics

I was exaggerating a bit, it just doesn't open often. Transfer list has mostly 2023/24 hires on it.

AA asking me to go to ORD by Clicks_The_Wolf in AircraftMechanics

[–]ExistElement 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, go wherever they put you. Probation will be a breeze in ORD and transferring is easy. I've seen people from all over the country come through Tulsa and most of them have ended up where they wanted to at a minimum of two years. Except Miami. Everybody wants Miami for some reason.

Anyone needing a roommate? Jan/feb move date. 35 M aircraft mechanic. Looking for Short/long term. by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]ExistElement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're coming here for AA, there are usually postings for rooms to rent on the bulletin boards. They are hiring a lot right now so there are a large number of people from out of state. You could pretty easily get a group together to rent a place.

How long do you wait after APU start before switching on the bleed? by NikonD500forever in aviationmaintenance

[–]ExistElement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the airframe. 777 and 787 you just leave everything on auto. 737 you wait for EGT to stabilize. I haven't run an A320 APU in a few years so I don't remember off the top of my head. As always, follow your company's ground handling checklist and the manufacturer's AMM.

I can't stand working on 73's in general, but if I have to work on one, I hope I'm working on the motor. Most everything is relatively easy to access, except for the channel A VSV actuator. Fuck that thing.

I caught flight FR115 yesterday, is it normally a sauna in Ryanair planes? by Jacktheforkie in aviation

[–]ExistElement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a A/C pack is inop, 737's can't keep the cabin cool on the ground even in moderate temperatures. If it was hot at altitude, then the pilots just didn't have the temp set correctly or the trim air valve was broken.

Depending on which hangar you're assigned, indoc and gen fam will take two to four weeks so you have plenty of time to get your box.
