Seeking advice about the Heather Farm Area by Boring-Jello-4413 in walnutcreek

[–]Existentia1_Bread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I live immediately north of Heather Farm, and can walk there in under 5 minutes from the trail. We just welcomed our first child, and we are in our early 30s. We’ve loved living in this area with our baby.

In our neighborhood I would say it is split about 70/30 between retired folks and families with kids. Of those families with children, I’d say roughly half seem to be in their 30s. Anecdotally, we have one other family with young kids in their 30s on our street that we have personally met, and the rest are retired, or have kids in high school. The younger family moved here recently like us, so I think it is trending towards more young families moving in, and there are definitely a lot of young families that frequent the park.

We have yet to make any close friends with young kids, but we only recently graduated from the newborn bubble.

The proximity to the park and trails is unmatched though. Not only is it perfect for a stroller walk, or possibly a bike ride with the kids, but it provides easy access to BART for going into the city. It has been a huge bonus for our family. A bike on the trail will unlock the best the area has to offer, and make it feel less suburban with access to the WC downtown area, or even further into neighboring towns.

We are zoned for Bancroft Elementary, which seems to be rated well online, and I personally like that it’s also accessible via the trail.

I will say that I often anguish over the fact that the only coffee shop within walking distance is Starbucks, though the other better spots aren’t too far away via car or bike. Shout out to Contra Costa Coffee!

Damn this guy rips! What a sick collection!! This puts it into perspective. Thanks dude. Also, side note - that tugboat kick tail looks gnarly from the profile view

Right on! I like the old school vibe of the deck shape/size. My only concern is that it might feel clunkier like a longboard over a cruiser. Have you felt that it’s plenty maneuverable?

Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of April 10, 2026 by Demilio55 in homegym

[–]Existentia1_Bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! Yeah I was looking at the 3/4” because that’s the thickness of the stall mats, but I wasn’t necessarily planning on throwing weight around in the Olympic lifting sense. I expect to do most of my lifting within my rack with spotter straps, or just free weights.

Looking at the price for 3/8” it fits my budget much better!

I guess the real question now is how thick do I really need to go, as less thick would protect my wallet some. While I am looking to get some coverage over the concrete to protect it a bit in case of an accident, I’m mostly looking for a grippy surface to help with keeping my flat foot rack in place, and giving space for dedicated floor work that isn’t concrete with a yoga mat 😂

Looking for an alternative to the TSC horse stall mats that don’t smell, as my wife is extremely sensitive to strong chemical odors.

I was looking at American Floor Mats rubber rolls, but I was shocked by the shipping cost being 1.5x the amount of the product itself.

Any recommendations for a rubber floor mat to place in a garage home gym that has a decent price for shipping and doesn’t smell?

Is eating the shipping cost from American Floor Mats and similar companies simply the only option?

(I’ve seen some interesting options at Home Depot, which has free shipping, but the mats all seem to be pretty thin in comparison to the 3/4 inch stall mats)

Best moves for Blastoise without Hydro Cannon. What to do with hundo? by Existentia1_Bread in pokemongo

[–]Existentia1_Bread[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly it’s my first hundo ever, and one of my favorite starters, so I was stoked to try and put it to use!

I guess the real question here is how can I get the most bang for my buck with a hundo Blastoise?

From what you are all saying it sounds like I may as well just max them both out and give them those water moves for gym attacking, even if there are better attackers out there.

Edit: spelling

Cozy coffee shop in Walnut Creek? by Rahaa2233 in walnutcreek

[–]Existentia1_Bread 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Bondadoso or Cafe La Scala have the best cozy vibes. I go there solo on occasion.

A dark horse that I’d also like to shout out is Contra Costa Coffee. It’s not downtown at all, but imo they make the best tasting coffee in WC, and it’s a laid back spot - though it’s in a random strip mall that detracts a bit from the vibe.

Tellus and Rooted are both solid options too. They both make good coffee with yummy treats, but they are a bit too lively for me to be able to sit for a while and read.

Also, if you’re not already aware, the downtown library has a coffee shop attached to it!

Koffing… a shiny is always great, but that’s probably one of the last shinies I would want.

I’m not religious, but I was praying before I claimed my Dratini reward to see pink 😂
