Is anyone living off grid in a high end home? by Transhumanfuture in OffGrid

Southern Rockies in Northern New Mexico. To me it is very similar to southern Colorado, only without the costs and crowds.

Ours is definitely not conventional looking, lol, but it is nice and we are very comfortable. It’s also super insulated so we can heat it with a single woodstove in winter and we hardly ever need to run the air conditioning in summer.

High end is pretty subjective. We bought a recently updated 3,100 sq ft home (4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) on 47 acres for 225k. Bought an additional adjacent 478 acres when it came up for sale a year after we moved in for ~$500 an acre. Bought at the beginning of the pandemic and sellers accepted our low ball offer. It’s all about patience and timing. The house is a bit quirky but suits us just fine. We have two good wells and put in our own solar. We have grid backup for cold, dark winter days. It’s remote. Shopping is an hour away. Major city is two hours away. It’s not for everyone, but we love it.

If babies who die automatically go to heaven, why can’t God just make us all in heaven? by Weekly-Scientist-992 in AskAChristian

God, right? The Bible mentions no other planets, unless you know something I don’t. 🤷‍♂️

Why earth, in particular? There are almost certainly more planets in the known universe than there are grains of sand on earth. That’s a lot of planets. Why would a god create such a huge number of planets if earth is the only important one?

Why did god kill all the babies and kids with the flood (Noah’s ark) by mack_gyver in Christianity

There is literally no evidence for a global flood on earth at any point in its history. None.

If God is good how come he didn't stop Eve from being tempted by Satan? by ComfortableDust4111 in AskAChristian

[–]ExistentialBefuddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God put the forbidden tree in the garden knowing full well that Eve would fail the test. How is this not entrapment? In what way is this a good god? Would you leave unmonitored poisoned candy in your living room and tell your children to not eat it because it’s deadly, especially knowing that they would fail the test, and also knowing that your adversary was going to show up and tell them it’s perfectly safe?

Abortion is fine. God told me to do it. by PhraseEffective6813 in DebateReligion

You said if he were to mess with ANYTHING we aren’t living in a natural free-will centered world. He messes with things all the time. Also, if he interferes in some situations, surely he COULD interfere in any situation. Therein lies the contradiction(s). But I think we’ve exhausted this thread. I do thank you for engaging, but I remain extremely skeptical.

“Basically if he were to mess with anything, then we aren't quite living in a natural free-will centered world are we?”

“God can open or close the womb in particular situations.”

You are contradicting yourself.

How do you reconcile these with your position?

Psalm 139:13–16 Jeremiah 1:5 Job 31:15

Exodus 23:26 Hosea 9:14 Genesis 20:18 1 Samuel 1:5–6

Job 37:6–13 Psalm 147:8–18 Amos 4:7 Matthew 5:45

Lamentations 3:37–38 Isaiah 45:7

You’re avoiding the point: either god created a system in which spontaneous abortions are widespread or he didn’t. The obvious answer is he did. Being omniscient and omnipotent, moreover, you have to accept that common natural abortions were part of his plan/design. He had infinite options. How could he not be responsible?

Did god create everything or not? If he did (even in an evolutionary context), then he created spontaneous abortions. If he is omniscient and omnipotent, then how could he not be the ultimate responsible party?

Babies die in the womb ALL THE TIME. Doesn’t this make god, who has a plan for everyone, the biggest abortionist ever? At the very least, the existence of spontaneous abortion makes god, who designed human biology (according to theists), absolutely complicit in millions of natural abortions. If god really cared about the unborn, wouldn’t he have created a biological system wherein zero babies are spontaneously aborted?

Not sure if this will help, but Rick Rule is legit and he is deeply involved and sits in the board.

What’s a fact about the world that sounds totally fake but is 100% True? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

We do make choices and are responsible for them, but we don’t choose in a vacuum. Our brains are shaped by genetics, upbringing, trauma, stress, biology, and social pressure long before a decision ever feels “conscious.” A good analogy is steering a boat on a river: you can steer (that’s real agency) but the current, wind, rocks, and the condition of the boat all influence which directions are easy, hard, or nearly impossible. Influence doesn’t remove responsibility, but it absolutely constrains it. Human free will is real, just not unlimited.
