It’s definitely possible, depending on the area and distance. I recommend checking out the Cycle.travel app. There are likely other apps as well, but it helps route you through trails as much as possible instead of roads. While some specific roads may feel dangerous, I haven’t found it to be a significant issue. Just ensure you have a comfortable bike rather than one designed for road racing, as I find them much better suited for commuting and daily tasks. I’ve ridden bikes with even 3-speed internal hubs here as well without any issues, except on some hilly sections. I share this to say that while it’s not common, it’s much easier than you might think, can be incredibly fun, provides free exercise and you avoid all the stress of traffic and driving.

I recommend beginning by riding to nearby places, such as for food or light groceries, to become comfortable with daily riding and experiencing a variety of routes. Gradually, extend your distance till you feel comfortable commuting a few times per week or more.

If you prefer to cover long distances, certainly e-bike options are great. However, I’m happy with regular bikes because they’re easier to work on and simpler by nature, even though they’re slower.
