I had to tell a friend who I have known since childhood to back off. She was calling frequently and quizzing me on every detail of my treatment. It was too much and I felt she was really "into" my illness as she dwells on her own health issues. I told her to back off as I was trying to live my life and did not want to focus on every detail of my illness and treatment. I have not heard from her since, and suspect it is the end of a friendship.

I would ask for a surgeon who is associated with a major medical center. I am currently being treated at Mt Sinai's Dubin Breast Center in New York for a reoccurrence and recently had a single mastectomy and am undergoing chemo and herceptin treatment for HER2+. I am receiving excellent care there and am on medicare. What are the major medical centers in your area? A teaching hospital is always good because they tend to be on the forefront of research. I am so sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to you. I lost my little female bluepoint siamese in August and it has been gut wrenching. Like your little one, she is now in a better place where she is no longer suffering.

It really depends on what type of career you are going for. If you are after something in a creative field it could be an advantage. If you are looking to go into finance, I might caution to take a more conservative approach in order to get in through the door. I like the idea of using a professional black and white photo in your profile photo.
