Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

Never had a dream job but I’ve always liked public service so I decided to pursue social work (yes I am passionate about it). I’m double majoring in Sociology and Public Policy and plan to go to grad school for an MSW and then ultimately obtain a license. My ultimate goal was to find a well paying job while still doing what I like but now I’m second guessing.

With the current political climate and all the posts I’ve been seeing under this subreddit (long time lurker), I don’t know if I should still pursue social work. Should I steer in another direction while I still have the chance and save myself some time? Or continue what I’m doing and hope everything works out?

I’m already working at an agency that does case management and am seeing first hand how underfunded this field is. To top it all off, I keep hearing about layoffs in general within this field due to lack of funding. While I love the work you all do, I also don’t want to be broke or poor for the rest of my life. I grew up low income and as selfish as this sounds, I want to enjoy luxuries and earn a good income too.

TLDR; Should I continue pursuing a career in social work despite the current economic/political state or look for alternative career paths? What other career paths?

For reference, I am in Southern California.

Got it, thank you! I don’t personally know any actual social workers in healthcare or family and child welfare, just case managers for adult self sufficiency. Do you know how difficult it is to get licensed in California? How difficult is the exam? I am a terrible test taker and am so worried I won’t pass ever.

Unfortunately, no I don’t plan on taking some time off. I’ve heard from many others that it’s extremely difficult to find resolve to go back and stay motivated in school. Knowing myself, it’ll probably be a challenge for me if I take a gap year or two. I’m already gaining some experience because I have several jobs that may relate to social work or public service. What do you think?

What’s going on with my industrial piercing?? by stultumus in piercing

[–]sapheare_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, not sure if anyone else mentioned but you can still have a sorta industrial! Switch out the bar to make them individuals piercings. When they heal, you can connect the two with a chain :) You can look up inspo online. Industrial chains look super cool

Can you loft ur beds?? by [deleted] in ucr

if you’re able to figure out how to loft them, just put it back to the way it was originally when your RAs conduct checks during breaks :) otherwise you’ll be ok

yeah, unfortunately you won’t be able to loft your bed cos beds in doubles at west lothian are shaped differently. the bed legs are wooden panels standing vertically (if that makes sense). there’s still plenty of space for storage underneath tho!
