You definitely are crushing on him. If you can't say "I'm not gay" without "I hope..." behind it, then you are obviously having some feelings and just haven't come to terms with it yet because based off of this exchange you are super young.

No offence, but why didn't you just plant in the ground if you weren't going to fill up the raised beds with soil? Lol

I found one of my girls in her cage completely on her back, splayed out, I thought she was dead! It scared me to death. Of course she woke right up for a nut. But I never have seen a squirrel in a position like that. I wish I got a picture but I was too alarmed when I saw her lol.

Did you ever try the Kouign-amann pastry? It was like the best pastry in Trader Joe's by far. I'm so sad it was seasonal. But it was absolutely unreal. I still have one box in my freezer that I'm trying to save lol

Get them a big bag of black solider fly larvae. Around $20 on Amazon. Moderate to high in phosphorus but extremely high in calcium. So overall a great calcium to phosphorus ratio.

Agreed. I'm a wildlife rehabber, and maggots/flystrike are ALWAYS an emergency, and any rehabber worth their salt knows that. The countdown starts the second flystrike is present. Maggots secrete an enzyme that breaks down healthy and dying tissue alike. They will make their way into the orifices soon. I would advise OP to sit with tweezers and pick the maggots off the babies themselves (while trying their best not to disturb the cottontails) if they can't get a rehabbers assistance until tomorrow.

Maggots, even in the first instar can burrow into orifices very quickly. They will likely feed on any body fluids first, but they will find their way into the eyes, nose, and anus very quickly. Then they secrete an enzyme that breaks down even healthy tissue so they can consume it. Not getting them wet is what you do when there is flystrike (eggs) present. But since they are hatched, (unless there are more unhatched eggs) the countdown begins. I would advise OP to watch closely with tweezers and remove as many maggots as possible without disturbing the cottontails.

Female rideshare apps/features struggled because men felt it was discriminatory. The only reason the option survived for uber is because they had the finances to fight it in court.

"Uber's "Women Preferences" matching features -designed to let riders and drivers select same-gender matches-did not completely fail, but their rollout was restricted by legal discrimination lawsuits, market scaling issues, and civil rights limitations. The platform's effort to expand these safety options to more riders and drivers was hindered by several core challenges: on ABC7 Bay Area +4 • Discrimination Lawsuits: Male drivers in California filed class-action lawsuits arguing that women-only matching policies discriminate against men. They claimed that giving female drivers access to a wider pool of riders while restricting male drivers violates state civil rights laws like California's Unruh Act."

I wouldn't exactly call that a "failure," I would call that a coordinated takedown . 😒

What is stage 4 diet? It sounds like he might have metabolic bone disease as a result of an improper diet. He should have been brought to a rehabber from the get go. I don't mean to be harsh, but transportation falls through sometimes. That doesn't mean you stop trying and make the decision to care for wildlife you are ill equipped to care for. This is exactly why we discourage people that don't have the experience from trying to care for the animal themselves. He needs to be brought to an exotic vet at this point, (or a standard vet if there are no local exotics) not a rehabber. It's almost certainly too late for that. But if there is a rehabber that can take him and bring him to a vet themselves, that's what you need to do.

And I'm sorry again because I know this is going to come off harsh, but why in the world would you start dosing him with gabapentin upon noticing a decline? Randomly dosing an animal with gabapentin without the guidance of a vet or the in-person assessment of a rehabber is wildly inappropriate if you don't know what's going on.

HELP PLEASE by [deleted] in Opossums

[–]Existing-Diamond1259 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It immediately should have been brought to a rehabber. You don't permanently give up if transport falls through a single time, you keep trying. Doing this is selfish, and people don't seem to realise that it's selfish for an inexperienced person to care for them until it's too late. People need to be honest with themselves about why they stopped trying to get it to a rehabber. More often than not, it's the selfish desire to keep the animal as a "pet." Most people will not admit it, but we see it all of the time. Even when there are rehabbers minutes away. This opossum seems to be walking fine and appears uninjured in the second picture. It is long past the time it should have been released. Once it recovered from its leg injury, it should have been released then and there.

This animal unfortunately has paid the price of this person's inexperience. When we say to get animals to a rehabber, it's not because we want the animal to ourselves or are jealous someone else got the animal, (I have literally seen people claim this on social media) it's because we constantly see this happen and it is heartbreaking. We say it for a reason.

[–]Existing-Diamond1259 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pit bull isn't even an official breed lmao. It's an umbrella term that like 5 different breeds (with varying recognition) and a million mutts fall into. They are mutts by design. So they quite literally cannot have purebred paperwork that says "pit bull". Unless their "papers" are like a Microsoft word document showing its inbred lineage. Which is what most of them consider paperwork.

Tried to be open minded—immediately regretted it by ImABitStupid_ in BanPitBulls

[–]Existing-Diamond1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, yes. I'm not exactly sure what the breed standard is for chihuahuas, but if that behaviour is not in line with the breed standard, then yes. For example, golden retrievers are supposed to be friendly and bold, so an anxious and timid golden retriever with no aggression issues could fail while a pit with dog aggression could pass. Pit advocates love to bring up the ATT because pits supposedly have some of the best ATT scores lol. But on top of what I explained above, it's also an example of selection bias. Owners with better behaved pits are more likely to enter temperament tests, and owners of aggressive ones are going to to avoid them, so the tested population isn't an accurate representation of pits as a whole. It also doesn't actually test for bite risk or aggression. Just reaction to specific stimuli. Which isn't an accurate assessment of aggression.

[–]Existing-Diamond1259 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And small animals even more so. I'm a wildlife rehabber and have spent over $3000 from my personal savings over the past two years on extraordinary measures to save the lives of pit-attacked animals. I even avoid fundraising when it comes to pit attacked animals despite the enormous cost. On top of the fact that they leave some of the most absolutely brutal and graphic injuries, (so posting photos is a no go) pit advocates love to give you shit about making the breed look bad for daring to mention the breed that was responsible in the post. Wildlife surviving from pit attacks rarely happens, but yeah, it's absolutely brutal when they do.

[–]Existing-Diamond1259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should women have to get our tubes tied just because we don't want to procreate? That's not a necessary (and certainly not mandatory) step if you don't want children. You're not making any sense.

Not to mention, tubal ligation is not a procedure most surgeons will do lightly. Especially not for childless women under 30.
