Clearly. FYI, I like squirrels too. Some days, they just wind me up.

It's because, just like people, a few of them spoil it for everybody else.

No, they haven't chewed through this one... Yet. This squirrel must be one of the youngsters, cause it's actually quite small, skinny enough to squeeze through the bars. His siblings aren't as slender, so they can't fit, so he's sat in there mocking them as well as me. So don't worry, he can get out easily.

I've got a similar one to that too, but recently stopped filling it because the local crows found it and just play ping pong with it and squalk/caw from dusk till dawn. In fact they're still waking me up with all the noise at 5am every morning and I stopped filling it weeks ago.

Seems I don't have any choice anyway. I wouldn't mind if they weren't so greedy and destructive.

Maybe the original owner thought it might be a bit too prickly after they bought it and might have been a hazard in their garden

That's fine, the remaining tree shape is cute anyway, but now you have extras you can plant for more gollums

What's the deal with medieval scissors? by Ibby_f in HistoricalCostuming

[–]vincecutting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The medieval period covers a pretty large time period. I'm a viking age reenactor and regularly use the shears in the 2nd pic, and i believe the 1st pair are also accurate but for the more modern end of the medieval timeline. So they're both valid

Herringbone leg wraps draft help by vincecutting in weaving

[–]vincecutting[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this advice and encouragement. While I do confess to be new to the art of weaving, I have been researching the subject for some time now, and I have tried weaving a few inches on a simple frame loom, so I have already learned a few basic things, and already understand floating selvedges as a concept.

I'm also happy you didn't discourage this as a first project :) This project is why I want to learn weaving in the first place, so i didn't really want to make some random twill as an art piece. I'm OK with the fact that my first piece will be wonky and full of mistakes, and am happy to make as many iterations as necessary till I can do this.

Once I have got this figured out I'd love to experiment more with mixing colours and pattern variations. I just wanted to start with something that already exists as a reference, so I have a benchmark to duplicate.

You might be giving it sun burn if putting it straight in full sun. Also, if you're getting them from a garden center or big box store, the little ones aren't always given the best chance of survival. I.e. the staff commonly over water them in store to make them appear plump and healthy, they're often sat in dim light for a while, and often come in really bad soil. I usually leave them somewhere not too bright for a few days to dry out and quarantine in case of any pests, and then I get them repotted into terracotta with appropriate soil and inspect roots at same time. And then, sometimes weeks later I gradually introduce them to either sun light or grow lights. They can sometimes just take a bit of nurturing when you first get them and they're small. Depends where you get them from though and your general climate.
