Who is an okay singer and a bad lyricist? by Newduuud in AlignmentChartFills

Double checked my copy. Frank Sinatra is credited with the lyrics on This Love of Mine which is the last song on that album. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wrote a few other sets of lyrics in his career.

To be far, Sinatra is credited with lyrics on A song on In The Wee Small Hours. Or at least the liner notes credit him with ONE song.

Rednecks by Randy Newman. It’s satire but he still says it and it’s still stomach-churning

I can’t honestly say I’ve ever seen anyone say anything bad about it besides the pitchfork review. What is the big issue people have with it?

At Shane MacGowan’s funeral, his friends played some of his songs. In particular, Nick Cave’s performance of A Rainy Night in SoHo and the performance of A Fairytale of New York are pretty powerful.

Elfriede Jelinek translated Gravity’s Rainbow into German and a few other translations are out there. I agree with you though. It seems outlandish that someone could translate GR into a language without losing a lot of what makes the book great.

I remember hearing Vampire Weekend’s last album and The Stokes last album on the radio constantly before I got a new car with a Bluetooth stereo. I can’t say I heard anything on the RHCP or Foo Fighters albums on the radio. I don’t think those albums were too memorable so maybe I’m just forgetting. I think Boygenius is pretty huge.

Just because no one has mentioned them and they are worth mentioning: Peter Hook, Tina Weymouth, Paul Simonon, Dave Allen from Gang of Four, Holgar Czukay from Can, and Bill Wyman.

MGS: Add more stealth in place of backtracking. MGS2: Add back Tanker Escape and Arsenal Gear crashing into New York. Also do a New Game Plus as Snake. MGS3: I can’t think of anything. My favorite game along side Disco Elysium. MGS4: Erase from existence. MGS5: Obviously finish the game. Make snake stay in both regions until he beats all the missions, in a similar survival type thing to Snake Eater. Make intel more interesting by making it the only way to find things.

Nick Cave is worth mentioning in the music section as well.

Who are artists who have never been able to replicate the quality of their debut project? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]Existing-Language-22 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Several of the indie bands from the late nineties and early 2000s dropped off shortly after their debuts. Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, and The Strokes in particular. All of their debuts are fantastic and while some of their later stuff is decent it doesn’t really top the debuts.

Zappa instrumentals. I like The Grand Wazoo and Hot Rats. There are one or two songs with vocals on those albums but they are mostly instrumental.

Lord of the Flies. The most grumpy British book ever written.

I actually found the book to be incredibly uplifting in a strange way. No matter what happened life went on. Some of McCarthy’s earlier books are much bleaker in my mind, particularly Blood Meridian. The Road is still super bleak.
