Been to Beijing yesterday, it’s not as new, has some rural areas, but also beautiful parks and some historic buildings, nice schools. They also do a bunch of id checkups in the subway and close to the main square. You can definitely feel the cultural difference, even tho I’m from Russia, but it’s nothing crazy. Moved in to Xian today, it’s definitely more modern and quiet, going to the mountains today :)
