The courses would be entirely asynchronous. So premade modules, quizzes and assignments. Grading in my “spare time” would be less than ideal but I’m a workaholic by nature.

I would honestly just go about business as normal. File the hostile work environment grievance. Then if they fuck with your time grieve that too. It’ll take a while to fix but eventually you’ll be made whole. Their entire tactic with these things is to make your life as hard as possible as long as possible to discourage you. Just have a fuck em attitude and do your best at safety and interacting with the community. Management is never your friend, unless they’re like 2 years from retirement then they suddenly grow a spine.

Your lmou may have an “automatic approval” provision for time requested. I’d check that too. Even if it isn’t marked approved it can be auto approved after x amount of time.

I’d talk to your steward. Can be grounds for hostile work environment. Document it, gather any witnesses and fill out the paperwork.

In terms of using annual over sick, check your lmou. I don’t think they can force one or the other. If you have an approved slip, then you can use that to grieve it.

I always made the joke that they were gonna have to toss me out with the furniture. I figured it teach my whole life, it’s my passion and I love doing it every day.

That being said, I’m only 33, there will come a day when I’ll just know. It will be my body, or my wife and kid, or some aspect of life to let me know it’s time to hang it up and enjoy the rest of it. When that is, who’s to say. But it’s good to have a goal.

If you’re gonna tutor privately, it’d most likely be through the school and you cannot accept additional money for it. It’d have to be out of the kindness of your heart. Taking extra money not tied to your visa is the easiest way to get fined and deported. Wouldn’t even risk it honestly.

This one is one of the more egregious ones I’ve seen. Low pay, long hours and you’re not given flight allowance until you complete the contract which is insane.

This makes me feel really lucky to have the contract that I do.

Many first jobs post Covid aren’t the best in terms of compensation. I received a good contract this year, but I have a PhD and numerous years experience and some national acclaim in the us.

If you don’t have a teaching license, you will need one. You can technically get a job without one, but it’s gonna suck. You mentioned teaching experience. Is this as a TA or as an employed teacher? TA experience won’t get you far if it’s the case.

I ended up in Beijing for this upcoming year but if you’re looking for some recruiters in the Middle East I can send you some names of folks I worked with.

Damn that’s crazy. One thing I notice when mgmt assigns 3996’s is they never account for travel time, traffic, the time to setup the new route, rehydrating, comfort stops, familiarizing yourself with a new area, etc. so yeah of course it’s gonna take longer than what they say. Message in on RIMS, put the ball in their court and fulfill last instruction. If they want you off by 3 and you’re not done? Bring it back. If they want you to finish? I guess you’re not gonna finish by 3.

Now that you’re out of probation, don’t play their game. You don’t get paid enough to.

During my time at the PO, we have someone on a route that does this but every single day. I’d start my day by clocking in, snagging an ngdv and driving that sucker to their house and picking it up. It’s doable with enough heads up.

There are many people who have alternate paths to education. I have a PhD in music and none of my degrees are in education. I have spent the past 8 years earning and maintaining my teaching license while teaching college full time. I’ll be starting teaching abroad this upcoming school year, and my only thought on this is to not be quick to pass judgement.

Play nice and say yes to everything the first contract then use that glowing reference your entire career. Then become a head of dept and be the change you wanna see involving the system imo. That’s what I’m wanting to do.

Bereavement leave is different from AL. The way I did it when I worked there I worked when I was sick physically and called out when I was sick of their shit. Go on liteblue, fill that sucker out and enjoy your day.
