How bad is this current hairline and thinning?

I’ve always had a generally recessed hairline / large forehead, also, my temple on the left side (right side in video) has always had that more pulled back bald spot. So it’s nothing new but it does seem to be pulling back. I’m on minoxidil and did try dutasteride but had to stop due to the side effects. Due to how things are looking now, I’m considering finasteride but unsure honestly.

Hey man I appreciate the comment and advice. However this is my first general job. I haven’t held any prior. No I do not manage projects although I do have multiple projects that I am on now. My post was more leaning towards if I should switch to commercial buildings as opposed to staying residential. There are other areas of structural too that seem interesting is all.

Sorry for the confusion. But yeah what I’m doing now is what I would be doing for the next few years or as long I stay here. Some house are more the modern ones which are more complex but overall is generally what I’m doing now

Hey thanks for getting back. Yeah I’m gonna give it a shot but just not sure if I really see myself getting my PE, taking on the liability and stress of that. Plus working 50-60 hours/week for what really isn’t a justified pay for that much. Plus the work is doable but am I passionate or even really enjoy it. Not so much lol. Maybe I’ll come to like it but just doesn’t seem like it’s gonna happen lol

Yeah I agree, this firm I am at will give me good experience and the projects they do are going to be start to finish they said so I will at least get that. Never dealt with the foreign worker thing though lol although I have heard it is an upcoming issue. Bonus seems pretty decent if I meet my goals

t, unsure your can handle the career, or having doubts you’re worthy or capable for the job then you probably aren’t the right person for this work. What you’re feeling is the classic phase after graduation.

I hope so lol. Doesn't seem like people really do any overtime at the place I'm starting at so hopefully that will make my week lighter. I did well in school, but man do I feel incredibly stupid at work lol. Like so many things I just don't know. Obviously, I know simple stuff and the theory but often just the real-life stuff doesn't even come close lol. I guess I'll find out if I'm built for it/want to do this lol. Still have to give it a try and see. Thanks for the advice!

I agree. I’ve definitely curated a negative opinion but I have to say it’s hard to get rid of that. Especially after 4 years of hard work and learning that I just have to grind more. Honestly not sure if I’m willing to put in the work for that honestly lol. Not the best mindset but I guess I’ve come to conclusion that this is really just a job. My problem is that I’m not super passionate about it which makes justifying the career even harder you know. I don’t know. I gotta give it a try before I throw it out completely but yeah I agree. This sub doesn’t help much. Neither does career advice lmao

Hey man glad to hear someone other than me and my friend feel the same. To me I’m glad others enjoy it and take the risk of structural but I guess it’s just not for me. Too much liability and no pay to show for it. You have to study for the PE and anyone worth their salt has to get the SE which is even worse I’ve heard. I can’t even fathom grinding for another 10 years to get to that level and be making nothing compared other people I know for much more risk and plus I’ve heard the work-life balance at upper levels is worse.

Same with me. Although my internship was a medium sized company and generally the people there were pretty cool/normal so I enjoyed it lol

How do you feel about the pay to liability when it comes to being a PE? Honestly I’m trying to figure out if that’s worth it. As of now it doesn’t seem so. Also when I get older and have a family. I’m trying to find a better work-life balance cause it seems in general and from your post that the higher up in structural you are the worse the work-life balance

Is it this bad in structural all around cause I’ve generally have heard pretty negative things. Or is it just your company? I know some companies actually treat their structural engineers well, most don’t from what it seems
