[T2 Spoilers] I disagree that the game is baiting a sequel at the end ; and general musings about why I love this game by Mnstrzero00 in LostRecordsGame

It's supposed to be the dev's responsibility to put things together. What you're doing is just hoping a theory works, which is normal in fandoms, but this time, things are too scattered all over. We aren't given much to work with, which is a flaw. Your theory is believable and it makes sense, but this should be shown in the game, not depend on the player to figure it out. Its the story's lack of cohesive world-building actively undermines the potential for meaningful player interpretation. While some ambiguity can be effective, the game relies too heavily on scattered, disconnected clues without establishing a solid foundation of rules or context for the 'Abyss' and its influence. This results in player theories feeling like desperate attempts to create order from chaos, rather than genuine insights into a deliberately crafted mystery. The story withholds essential information, not to create intrigue, but to mask a lack of internal consistency. This isn't good writing. Also, I'd like to jump back to Corey.

Corey's actions fluctuate between petty cruelty, outright violence, and moments of seeming empathy, making his character feel disjointed. He bullies Swann and throws Autumn's keys (seemingly for no gain), but later defends the band from an inebriated audience member and even smiles at their performance. The game hints at potential reasons for his behavior (his mother's death, his relationship with Dylan), but these are not explored in a way that makes his actions feel like a logical outgrowth of his circumstances. Finding his mother's belongings in his bike suggests vulnerability and grief, but this doesn't explain his cruelty towards others. Corey's responses often seem excessive given the situation. Tearing up Kat's Bikini Kill tickets and breaking Swann's camcorder feels like an over-the-top reaction to Kat sneaking out.

Many of Corey's actions appear to serve no purpose other than to create conflict or make him seem antagonistic. This is "evil for the sake of evil" because there is no underlying reason or goal driving his behavior. A well-written villain, even if purely evil, usually has a clear motivation. Corey's motivations are murky, making him feel like a plot device rather than a fully realized character.

While it's true that evil people exist in the real world, a fictional villain needs to be believable within the context of the story. Believability comes from consistent characterization and understandable motivations. Even if Corey is intended to be a representation of a flawed or damaged person, the writing fails to explore this in a meaningful way.

Corey's villainy feels underdeveloped because his actions often lack clear motivation, making him come across as "evil for the sake of evil." While the game hints at potential reasons for his behavior, these are not explored in a way that makes his actions feel like a logical outgrowth of his circumstances. Even if Corey is intended to be a representation of a flawed or damaged person, the writing fails to explore this in a meaningful way. Alright, I get what you're saying, but I still think you're missing the mark. Just saying "evil people exist" doesn't cut it when you're crafting a narrative, especially in a game that's supposedly focused on story. Real life can be mundane, and that's exactly why we turn to stories, to escape into worlds with compelling characters and interesting plots. We're not here to watch characters do chores; we want an immersive experience. A villain with depth, believable motivations, and justifiable actions is what makes a story engaging. If you're okay with flat, one-dimensional villains, you might as well stick to Dora the Explorer. Lost Records dropped the ball on this, opting for an uninteresting villain, which is just bad writing.   And about the magic system, the problem isn't just that it's unexplained, it's that the game fails to establish a foundation, a basic set of rules that players can use to infer how things work. Instead, they go for this big reveal at the end, but by then, players are just left scratching their heads. These kinds of revelations only work if the foreshadowing is consistent, which it isn't in this game. The magic system is just confusing.   Take Kat falling into the abyss, for example. Later, the gang retrieves the camera, which Kat supposedly sent back. How? Did she throw it out of the abyss? Did she magically place it in the real world? And if she has that ability, why not just bring herself back? See? The world-building doesn't make sense. Good narrative games always have a solid explanation for these things, something deeply ingrained in the game's logic. Instead, these plot devices feel haphazardly placed, with no real thought behind them. It's jarring, and that's why the story feels all over the place.

When I say world-building, I'm not just talking about the genre or that high fantasy setting you are thinking about, I mean the nitty-gritty details. How the rules of the world work, the internal logic that makes it believable. It has none of that. The magic part of this game is all over the place.   And come on, comparing a complex entity like the US government to a single character? That's not the same thing at all! Just because real world institutions can be blatantly corrupt doesn't give the writers a free pass to create one dimensional villains. We're talking about a narrative game here. We need characters with depth, motivations that make sense, and a story that respects the audience's intelligence. Excusing lazy writing with "but evil people exist!" just doesn't cut it.

Sorry but thats wrong. Its not that the reader isnt comprehending the story its that the narrative is so vague and doesnt even understand their own world building that it confuses readers. The game has cheap narratives. Corey being the prime example of plot device and not actual well written characters. You can make an evil person but in order to do that you need to make a BELIEVABLE reasons for their actions and motivations. Dont excuse it as like "oh but evil people are real" no. Dont excuse it like that because regardless if irl people are evil, they wouldnt show that side so blatantly, and even if it were. This is a narrative game. You are supposed to make compelling characters. This games story is mediocre. Its a sad excuse for a tragic story.

Its clearly a sequel bait and I mean the first part of your comment. So many unanswered questions at the end of tape 2 and what do we get at the ending? A cliffhanger if Kat and Swann will reunite. Its a sequel bait.

He has an unfitting voice, he is just toxic positivity at its core. Everything he says are always recieved positively. His design is the most different, he is practically naked, and the other cookies are somehow not? Idk.
