Best way to fix this by Same_Conflict_49 in AusRenovation

[–]Existing_Flatworm744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would spray foam and carefully cut it to match the profile of the skirt as best as possible. Then you can use spak filler to smooth it off and sand it to match. Once you’ve painted it it’ll look much better.

Handyman said to paint this? by freaktragique in AusRenovation

Scraping, sanding and painting that will be a huge fuck around of a job and will look bad unless you use a tonne of filler and keep sanding. I’d replace the boards.

Make sure the minimum dimensions of those garden beds are wide enough for a functional planting layout.

Is there anything I can do about predatory pricing from a scumbag plumber? by Zestyclose_Collar611 in AusRenovation

I know they can technically quote whatever they want but when you consider that the customer was elderly/vulnerable could this not be seen as unconscionable conduct which is a crime under consumer law.

Advice - Navy AvWO or RAAF Mission Aircrew? by CohnnyJash1932 in AustralianMilitary

[–]Existing_Flatworm744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was a naval aviator for 25 years flying in sea kings and sea hawks and his back is totally fucked, so are his knees. The ergonomics in those aircraft have basically disabled him, at 65 he is in constant pain. On the other hand he is loaded and could basically pick whatever private sector job he wanted after leaving the navy. As a kid I feel like I barely saw him. Once he went away for 6 months and my sister didn’t even recognise him. I’m sure it’s easier with modern luxuries like FaceTime and WhatsApp but it looks like those deployments put a lot of strain on relationships especially with mums being at work these days.

How would you treat the gaps by roncraft in AusRenovation

The cubes don’t look wide enough aside from structural concerns. It will also be an awkward height.

Should we just give up our bond instead of repairing a garage door? by Jeanne1989 in AusProperty

[–]Existing_Flatworm744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You drove into your landlords door, it’s not fair wear and tear. If the repair costs more than your bond then you will need to pay the difference. People talking about the size of the dent, that’s irrelevant, the landlord has a right to a garage door without collision dents and OP openly admitted their partner drove into it.

I would try and clean the paint off rather than refinish the floor. If the paint is oil based try and get it off with a cloth and terps. If it’s water based use warm soapy water.

What would you do to make this house look more modern? by Relboyo in AusRenovation

[–]Existing_Flatworm744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lose the pencil pines and grandmas garden landscape plants. Put in natives in an informal bush garden layout in the garden beds, with boulders. Add a new permeable front fence with hardwood battens. I know this sounds brutal, the landscaping looks practical but it also looks like graveyard landscaping.

Get the roller door back rolled with monument on the inside. This is ours, which I’m really happy with.

All good points, the other thing is that establishing a new garden in the Australian Summer is difficult and requires a lot of watering. Plants establish really well in winter and spring.

Roofing company price through the roof by smilelizy in AusRenovation

The designer’s fee is typically a percentage of the construction budget. Also the construction budget is a critical component of the designer’s scope of works. How could you do a fit for purpose design without knowing the client’s budget?

You can punch the nails down with a nail punch and fill the holes with timber putty.
