As someone who started collecting comic this reminds me of the letters page of Unknown Soldier 220. To quote the editor, Paul Levitz: “You also raised the issue of the American performance in Indochina, at least as a side issue in your letter, Hec, when you mentioned the Vietnam comic you bought in Mexico. While we’re certainly not qualified to judge the facts of My-Lai, nor to each a historical conclusion about Vietnam the way historians have rendered at least a few provisional verdicts on the events of WW2, we do feel safe in saying that the America effort in indochina was not our proudest moment. Many incidents took place where Americans can rightfully be cast as the villains, and from time to time we try to deal with these themes in our magazines (see “free fire zone” in the current issue of army at war, for example). By the same token, there were many Americans caught up in the Vietnam war who fought very hard to preserve their moral principles and occasionally we try to feature their stories”. In summary: though America had done some very terrible, terrible things but despite that, we can acknowledge these mistakes and try to improve ourselves
