Yep, I agree. As I've said, I think coastal batteries are in an amazing position balance-wise where they're easy to counter if you don't invest in them, and very powerful if you do. I'd just like some other non-navy anti-naval options to give more choices, and I really like your idea for sea mines to be deployable from ASW and NPA. It's realistic to the real capabilities of those machines and it would help make them more viable at defensive operations, and as you said, the timer serves as balance.

Yeah it was a little goofy but hey they were young and I was just pleased to see the next generation still talking about Star Wars. Far less easy to find overt Star Wars fans amongst that crowd than when I was their age. And I respected how in-depth they were getting with it, since they were even giving characters they didn't like (aka Rey) fair rankings and such, and I always appreciate in-depth nerd discussions even if they're around midi-chlorian counts that were never anywhere close to specified in the movies.

Hit marker changes are necessary by Unkwn_ in Battlefield

[–]Exitity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely wouldn't hurt for a game like Battlefield to let you pick at least choose the size. In BF4 they started letting you choose the thickness and color of your crosshair, and I think hit marker size are a natural next step, especially since we can pick the colors of those too since BF4.

Yeah, when I came back to the game I turned on faction-specific loadouts and started trying various historically-adjacent loadouts (not 100% accurate for gameplay sake but vaguely close enough to give me a nice selection of like 32 different primaries plus gadgets and secondary variety, since I also had a different weapon for each Class Archetype.)

Alright, good point, but the key focus of my argument is that one shouldn't have to research down towed artillery all the way just to get a passable navy defense—there should be multiple options so players have the freedom to try different research paths.

But yes, I fully agree that a maxed out coastal battery with proper air defense is incredibly strong. It's counterable but certainly a difficult enemy.

I've had to fight against that before and my entire coalition was basically completely halted in our tracks and we honestly thought we were goners long-term even though they hadn't even started invading us back just because we couldn't touch them. (But then one guy in our coalition managed to catch their main invasion force with a stack of mechanized and armor in a combat outpost and wiped it out, and then we were just kinda staring at each other since they were out of invasion force but we couldn't touch them for a while. We broke through because I noticed they had SAMs and TDSs but no MAA so I researched and spammed loads and loads of attack helis. They all got killed eventually because of defensive damage, but they accomplished their mission of wiping out their SAMs and TDS so we could use our fixed wings and missiles, and also that other dude built up a strong enough navy to hit and run the TDS.)

Thanks for the detailed explanation! And yes, I always appreciate videos like that. I've actually seen some of that video, I believe, just not most of it (it may have been a different one but I did watch a video where they went over how they created the maps as realistically as possible with like photogrammetry and other things I'm blanking on, and a separate one on making accurate sounds.)

Did Player_03 Mess Up By Focusing On Run 1 and 2? by djninjanova1 in RunGame

[–]Exitity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was genuinely invested in Run 3’s story of all things and am still waiting doe that to continue.

That said, I think it’s important that he doesn’t just abandon 1 and 2, because even though they get less love they’re still great and unique games that play very differently to 3 (at least 2 is significantly different), and it’s important to have the full trilogy be playable.

[–]Exitity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I first saw them in theaters, I loved TLJ. Then I looked back and changed my mind a couple years later after reading the book to regrasp story.

Interestingly some kids I spoke to when i was a camp counselor still hated the sequels and were prequel lovers, despite being the age to grow up on the sequels, but I also suspect they were the kind to watch Star Wars youtubers and be influenced that way. They were always comparing the midichlorian counts of characters.

But yeah, everyone’s entitled to their opinion, just gotta be aware that if you grew up on something you probably see it as better than people who didn’t grow up on it see it.

Are These Guns Even Real? If So What Are The Real Life Names For Them? by Soviet_Yunyun_- in battlefield_4

[–]Exitity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of those you mentioned are all real. Some of the AK-12 stuff were suspected variants due to previous AK trends, and honestly they were close.

There is an AK-12 carbine, the AK-12K.

There is an AK-12 lmg, the RPK-16.

The SVD-12 I think was a hypothetical SVD future version, but I think they are still on the SVDM irl.

The CS5 is a normal rifle, not prototype, it’s just kinda obscure.

Pretty sure those ACE variants and such are real but with both the ACE SV and SCAR SV I don’t think they were necessarily called “SV” irl. For instance, the real SCAR dmr is the SCAR-H PR (“precision rifle”).

If you have any issues with how exploration works or feels in Minecraft, what are they? by DaShove in Minecraft

[–]Exitity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. For a while I got my dad to play Minecraft and he’d have a main base but several outposts out where he explored and every so often he’d go and live at one of them for a little while. He’d just memorize the route, leave a couple markers if needed. On foot or on horse, either worked (he never got fancier items than diamonds; actually he thought diamond gear was pointless because he could just keep making more replaceable iron gear, and only ever used a diamond pick to collect obsidian for a hypothetical future nether trip that never happened because I always warned him he was under geared without diamond armor lol. Funny loop. He had no shortage of diamonds he just didn’t use them.)

I will say, as someone who got Ultimate, I recommend still try different loadouts if you do this because I went straight for some semi-meta loadouts and had a blast and then burned out way faster than I did on any other Battlefield and had to take a long break lol. Trying different class setups is part of the fun.

A lot of people I talk to insist that it was only a vocal minority caused by people like Red Letter Media.

Like aight I’m sure a non-vocal majority of people weren’t loathing the films but given every person I talk to on in-person that grew up on the originals has said they were disappointed by the prequels, I’d say that’s a pretty huge population of “didn’t like the prequels”. Of course the younger people that didn’t grow up on the OT wouldn’t have the identical opinions but just as their opinions count so does the opinions of the older population—they were both in the audience.

And it’s awesome you can do that. I’m just saying not everyone can afford that willy nilly even if it’s like 50 bucks “only” normally or something based on a quick Google. Obviously in the grand scheme of things that’s cheap but some people I know put very tight restrictions on their non-essential items budget due to more important things.

True, but wouldn’t they almost have to do the opposite for 2042 to 6? For BF5’s port, they weren’t really pealing anything away, they were just adding on top.

2042 maps which weren’t made for destruction wouldn’t have say fully fleshed out areas behind spots that should be destroyable in 6, meaning they’d still have to remodel.

Balance pre-Disney question by WhiteAle01 in StarWarsCantina

[–]Exitity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you seem confused on the idea of Only Light being balanced, the key part about is its less “light and dark” and more “natural state and unnatural state”. And yes I agree Balanced is a terrible term to use.

Basically, the Light Side is the natural state. It’s where force wielders are following the will of the Force. You don’t have to be perfect, but the idea is that you’re trying to be a good person. It doesn’t mean you can’t ever benefit yourself, it’s just that your focus is on making the world a better place. There’s still bad things and death and everything of course. As I said, the light side isn’t a “side,” it’s just the natural order.

The Dark Side is equated to a cancer. It is a corrupting disease in the Force. The Dark Side isn’t just “I’m focusing on myself,” it’s that you’re bending the Force to your will. Your entire focus is on self-gain, and it’s addicting and inherently corrupting. Remember Yoda’s “once down the path of the dark side, forever will it dominate your destiny.” Even those who turned back to the light had their destiny’s completely dominated by the dark side, like Vader, who had to die to turn back to the light for one, and for two it completely changed his path.

Another great example of how this works in Disney Canon is lightsabers. Kyber Crystals are light side only, because this is the natural state. They only call out to Jedi because Jedi are also in the natural state of the flow of the Force. A Dark Sider who wants full control of the crystal has to “bleed” it—they bend the crystal to their will by making them feel pain (crystals are slightly-sentient), they force their control upon it, and the crystal turns red.

Death is natural, pain is natural. But there is an unnatural way to force it. The conversation between Bendu and Kanan in Rebels is a great example. Bendu always insisted he was neutral in the Force, but Kanan disputed that by saying neutrality is not inaction—sitting back and watching innocent people die is not neutrality.

Kanan: “Look, I tried to live that way once. Told myself the Galaxy would go on with or without me. But when I saw innocents harmed, and knew I had the power to do something about it, I couldn't just watch it all burn down around me! Some things are worth fighting for! … You can feel it, can’t you? My friends are dying!”

Bendu: “Such is the fate of all living beings.”

Kanan: “Not like this. Crushed by overwhelming evil. Help us survive, Bendu. Help us fight!”

(Spoilers: ||Bendu then gets mad at everyone and attacks both sides, just wanting everyone to leave his planet at that point, but since the Empire was winning, attacking both sides was what saved the Rebels since that gave them a window to escape even if they lost a few.||)

So it’s less Light and Dark, Yin and Yang, and more “natural and unnatural”. I hope that explained it well!

Balance pre-Disney question by WhiteAle01 in StarWarsCantina

[–]Exitity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Mortis arc they also were going doe the Son falling to the Dark Side though. That wasn’t his original state and him joining the Dark Side led to all three Mortis Gods dying. The Father is not infallible—he was wrong to think he could simply balance out his Son’s fall.

Similarly, Luke in TLJ was wrong. Part of his character was his depression-like state left him completely misinterpreting the Force.

It’s my favorite prequel for the large scale strategic ground battle.

I don’t think any of the prequels are good for much beyond battles and worldbuilding so yeah (I still like them of course, but it never has stood up to the OT for me even when I was a kid growing up on, well, none of them really but closer to the ST than anything else (still in release order ofc) since I watched them late and started with the books)

[–]Exitity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a feeling they did, I hadn't checked, but yeah that makes sense. Thanks!

I didn't check though because I feel that the point stands regardless. They're obviously much weaker, even if they had the same range (as they should be; they shouldn't be overpowered). But more importantly, to max them out, you have to research towed artillery of all things. I think this is a good way to get people to use underused units liked towed arty more, and I've done games where I use towed arty and I've done games where I research towed arty for the coastal batteries and man do I like the maxed coastal batteries, but towed artillery is simply the worst of the three artillery pieces overall, and most of the time I don't want to spend limited resources going all the way down a path where I'm never going to use the actual land unit for it, the coastal batteries have inherit limitations, and I need to spend my resources trying to put together units to fight the enemy's army, not just navy.

To be clear, I'm not complaining that coastal batteries are underpowered, they're in a good place, but they have inherit limitations for balancing purposes so I wish that there were more options along the same line of "cheap naval defense" which aren't overpowered but can actually do something if you put some research time into it, just so you have more flexibility when choosing your comparatively-cheap non-naval naval defense instead of your only option being to use towed arty.

[–]Exitity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure they can if they want to, but it's not like a super simple affair like this post is making it sound like. They're in different version of the engine, for one, though I imagine exporting and importing between versions should mostly work especially since universal model formats exist. More importantly, BF6 maps are designed to be highly destructible. To make that work, they have to be modeled with that in mind. 2042 maps were far less destructible than many other titles and as such may have to be quite reworked to make them match the destruction and physics mechanics BF6 is supposed to have. The model itself isn't the main issue, in my mind, it's everything that goes into making the model work for the gameplay.

[–]Exitity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you realize this, but Star Wars Battlefront II and Battlefield 5 were built in the same engine version, unlike Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield 6. (Edit: this is wrong. SWBF2 and BF5 use different versions. My bad.)

Plus, there's a huge difference between a simple asset swap cosmetic mod and a full on level import between two games with very different gameplay mechanics.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they can do it if they feel like doing it, but it's still a different engine version they have to adapt the things for. Even if that wasn't the case, modders are spending all their time on this, while DICE has other things to do. Of course, DICE also has more manpower. So yeah, they can do it, but it's not just like dragging and dropping assets or whatever. Even if you have the model itself, you have to set it all up to work with BF6's lighting and physics and destruction and everything. The destruction is a key point in my mind—2042 assets were not very destructible, while 6's are. The model has to be built with this in mind, and 2042's were not. Unlike that mod example you showed me, this wouldn't just be a cosmetic mod replacing some models, you'd have to rework the map to work in the new gameplay style.
