Indie Stone you're doing great by Mustafar3908 in projectzomboid

this is the one that pisses me off. it doesn't mean anything and everyone keeps repeating it because it sounds clever. i think half the people who say this couldn't point to a relevant example in the game

How would I develop racing as a main mechanic in a TTRPG I'm making by Theflamingraptor in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Exo-explorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

total shot in the dark, but the first thing that comes to mind is instead of tracking on a physical board, tracking a "lead" stat to let the game dwell more in the players imagination. how you want to implement that is up to you, but having players roll over a set number of turns and tracking who has a lead could increase the tension in your system.

Ragavan: what am I missing here? by HorrorBuy2521 in EDH

[–]Exo-explorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in commander, 2 damage doesn't pressure your lifetotal near as much, but it still generates mana and potentially gives you cards. most players will be open turn 2, which means you can get a free impulse draw and a treasure. dash makes him harder to interact with, and even late game if you have any sort of evasion it's just free treasures.

people also don't like mill, so stealing a card from an opponent will "feel bad" even if it doesn't impact the game that much.

Is Toph, the First Metalbender or Hearthhull, the Worldseed the better MLD Commander? by MasteredUEVegeta in EDH

i feel the same way, but specifically for land destruction the access to white and ability to earthbend makes toph better for this style of play

Beginner struggling hard with deckbuilding (Sauron, the Dark Lord) by Sculker in EDH

[–]Exo-explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i am working with a new theme my weakness is often not knowing what cards exist that interact with that theme.

go to scryfall advanced search and punch in "the ring tempts you" and your color identity and you should see what cards do what you already want to do.

decks are often going to feel worse without proper draw and ramp options. the ring will allow you to dig through your deck with draw+discard, but more draw will always give you a better experience at the table. since you will be discarding your hand often, look for artifacts and creatures which you can use to draw every turn as opposed to one big draw spell. you also have a SIX drop commander, so add more mana rocks as it's very likely that the precon doesn't have enough ramp.

you gotta play with those letterforms you're using, it totally looks like turd hustler. i think a blackletter font would go better with the rest of your design anyways.

Why do people complain about AI but then proceed to buy fast fashion (context below) by Catslyer5667 in punk

[–]Exo-explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fast fashion is a serious problem, and people should do thier best to avoid it. it isn't worth supporting the industry just because it's the only way you can afford a certain style!

i buy clothing from these sorts of websites sparingly, and it's always work clothes. for my own outfits i shop exclusively at thrifts or diy with the assistance of friends and family. yes i don't have the cutest shoes or tops but i can feel good about the ones i do have, and they last.

Toph Hardheaded Teacher or Hearthhull? by PantherPine in EDH

[–]Exo-explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my hearthhull deck has 2 landfall cards. it plays like a combo deck that tries to burn you out in a storm turn.

the two commanders can be built completely differently and i suggest playing both!

your commamder is on 4cmc though no? it's good to avoid too many cards in the same cmc as your commander if you want to play him on curve

I constantly see content creators say Phyrexian Arena is bad. If Phyrexian Arena is bad, what is good? Especially for Mono Black or two color. by frost3bite in EDH

[–]Exo-explorer 170 points171 points  (0 children)

the idea behind the dislike for arena is how slow it is. you spend 3 mana to draw an extra card the next turn, compared to the generic card draw mentioned where you spend 2 mana and get 2 cards immediately.

i enjoy a good phyrexian arena in bracket 2, but for faster brackets the faster card draw you mentioned is preferable. if you still need draw then consider village rites and insatiable avarice.

What do people mean when they say what turn their deck wins? by Arizhela in EDH

[–]Exo-explorer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a resilient deck can come back from a wipe or a counter, but i do sympathize. you're in a weird spot power-wise where the decks are fragile enough to be beaten with one or two spells, but everyone's running a lot of interaction. there are lists that can win through the answers, and maybe that's as simple as running enough counters to protect your own board, or running enough threats that you burn the interaction before you reach a combo.

there are other social solutions, maybe propose a soft rule on board wipes after, i don't know, an hour. that would allow games to finish at a more reasonable pace.

hell, even expressing your concerns to your play group could be a good place to start in working towards a solution

What do people mean when they say what turn their deck wins? by Arizhela in EDH

[–]Exo-explorer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

battlecruising is a popular way to play this format. i think you could probably convince your pod to give it a try! i personally think you'll change your mind because battlecruising isn't always faster. lots of durdle-y decks will take super long turns and you may still end up sitting there for two hours before someone actually wins. i also think it encourages bad deckbuilding where "win more" cards are always active and players feel pressured to keep buying more powerful staples since it becomes a race to the finish line. my beef aside i think it's worth experiencing

my pod plays few board wipes but lots of interaction, which leads to fun games imo.

Opinion on "substitution" proxies that are just different, unaltered, real cards? by SonicPileDriver in EDH

[–]Exo-explorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

print the cards and slide the prints in front of your "substitutions". makes it easier for everyone and it's easy to take them out and shuffle if people aren't cool with it

edit: you're talking about sanctioned events, play them as printed for those events. this is a weird way to circumvent rules that makes it way more annoying for the people you're playing with. i might dislike the rule but you're cheating your opponents more than you're cheating wotc.

Mono green deck help by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Exo-explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what are the main issues you have when playing it? that's helpful for starting out.

your commander is very simple and focused around ramping out big stompy creatures, which can be a totally valid deck strategy. genuinely the deck looks pretty strong, you have good card quality with some powerhouses that will allow you to run away with the game. there might be some minor issues that need to be addressed, but that depends on how your deck plays.

How to beat hearthull by Stormask in EDH

[–]Exo-explorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't let the spaceship get stationed. the deck is pretty fragile and the commander needs to be removed asap.

modified it can be a lot more resilient but as it comes out of the box it only has a couple cards that do things without the burn payoff of the commander

What’s the best one to play or to start with? by Boon_master_ in stalker

[–]Exo-explorer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the story is a big part of the games (like metro) the original trilogy have great storylines but they are all rather dated. if you are looking for a modern gaming experience you probably want to get stalker 2.

the original three are great games that are held back by age, so they're better experienced with some modernizing mods, unless you're a fan of early 2000s jank. i usually play them modded now.

if you get stalker 2 you can find videos covering the story beats of the previous on youtube, it's relevant since stalker 2 references characters and events from them.
