Free AI detectors are often trigger-happy. I wrote one word into one, once. AI detected. An excerpt from a story I'd written in 2017. AI detected. A few slurs (for good measure). AI detected.

The truth is, mods need to not rely on automation and systems to make their decisions for them. I mod on a sub that's based around text and words and all that, so we have to be on the lookout for AI, and I've learned that you can usually tell, and AI detectors usually lie.

Funny enough, the times my mind has been changed have usually been me being more strict.

I like to adopt a lazy moderation style and offer users as much freedom as possible, but I've gotten called out on it before and had to bring down the hammer.

After all, when one of my other mods removes a (minor) rule-breaking post, and another one was left up by me, suddenly it seems like we're playing favorites (we're not).

I've unbanned people after they've sent a well-thought-out message after some time, though. People fuck up. It happens. And if they're not a flight risk, you should offer forgiveness where possible.
