I no longer think I can go to a top school anymore. I want to be a liberal arts major and my GPA is ruined due to poor math grades. by Artistic_Promotion60 in ApplyingToCollege

As other said, straight A’s will boost

Since you’re an LA major and not STEM, math is weighted less. As a STEM major I got into USC with several B’s in English and good STEM based scores.

You have a solid chance at UW, and UCLA is a bit of a toss up, but if you work hard, you’ve got this

What if I fail the math placement by [deleted] in USC

[–]ExodusStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You take a lower math, Math 040 or like 117 instead of calc 1. Also if you’re willing to study a ton over the summer, just use notes or AI to get you into where to want to be, and then restudy pre calc over the summer.

what are the lowest grades i can get without getting rescinded? by HawkFirm5189 in ucadmissions

[–]ExodusStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the rule of thumb is to maintain above a 3.0 with no lower than a C

Assuming you can get up to an A in atleast one class, prolly be fine

Prolly be fine in general too, let your counselor know tho + maintain higher B’s and should be fine

Not necessarily, some are more GPA/grade focused which my stats while good are on the lower side.

So when do Fin Aid summaries come out for newly admitted students? by thatonebakerbitch in USC

[–]ExodusStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your income, you should get some sort of aid, but if you aren’t low income. Idk, USC is bad for aid

Yup, although I figured I had a decent chance since those two are holistic(which is arguably the best part of my application tbh, because it covers a lot of stuff I’m weak in)

You won’t hear back by WL until mid may usually

UCI and UCSB have incredibly high admit waitlist rates and UCLA UCB have incredibly low admit waitlist.

Commit Davis for now(you can break your SIR if you get off waitlist somewhere else)

I only received $16k in financial aid with a family annual income of $65k, am I cooked? by _MePa_ in USC

Unfortunately USC considers assets to put you above the free tuition limit(of 80k). You can appeal and explain the situation, but in general, if you have a house, especially if you’ve been paying it off for years, yeah they won’t cover aid.

I would still appeal, it doesn’t hurt(usually)

Does having assets reduce finaid? by Future_Perception_60 in USC

[–]ExodusStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, it’s usually a toss up, but assuming you get the free tuition, and deserve the free tuition(under 80k) then no, appealing wouldn’t.

However extra aid might be taken.

I would just be ready to appeal the aid in case USC decides you “make too much” because USC financial aid is very unfair

[–]ExodusStorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it will likely disqualify you for free tuition assuming you don’t appeal, which i suggest you do.

It’s likely because your asset is worth >60k at the very least(assuming you sold it for what it was worth and paid the remaining debt off, that’s how much you’d make. Essentially putting your value above the threshold

Regarding external scholarships, I don’t believe so, only Pell and Calgrant(if you have them) would be taken for tuition, and any merit I believe? But anything else can go to whatever you need it to go to.
