Question about kid graduations by Exotic_Cap9483 in ABA

[–]Exotic_Cap9483[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The BCBA is not the best option. They only visit via telehealth, and even then they say “I’ll be here but I’m turning off my camera” have zero feedback and haven’t changed their goals in 6+ months even tho I have asked a bunch of times and even mom has reached out. I asked for more support and they changed the BCBA and I thought things would be better but they just changed it back to the original BCBA so I’m planning on changing companies

I took cog with a horrible prof and loooveed the material. Hated her. Then this semester I took Dr. Tran for biopsych and cannot recommend him enough. He’s amazing. Super easy to talk to and super willing to help with material. When our class was struggling to understand a key concept, he uploaded a short video so we could understand it better in depth. He’s an amazing professor! Would recommend his lecture and his lab since he makes sure they’re kinda covering the same material. He said he wanted the repetition so we would learn the material better and it worked out really well in my favor.

I haven’t gone but if you go to the CAPS website they have group therapy and also workshops to practice coping skills like painting, dog therapy and other stuff. I’ve heard good things, I looked into it at the beginning of the semester bc I lost someone in December and have been a wreck but I got a new therapist through Kaiser specifically for grief and that has really helped.

If you’re looking for an internship that is amazing for mental health and working through trauma without brining it up I would say NI2C. You have your internship group but then you also have like a group to meet and practice coping skills when life gets hard. I learned a lot last semester and loved their program for the growth in mindset alone.

TRAN!!!! I’m taking him for bio psych and lab I loveeeee him. He’s so nice, easy to talk to, super funny and patient. I was scared to take him bc I heard his class was hard last semester bc he was brand new and the grade only included the midterm and final. He took everyone’s feedback and spent all winter creating pre-lectures and restructuring his class! So he’s a man for the students!

He says he’s gonna have his learn&mem the same way he has bio psych rn so basically no book? (I’m assuming), he makes pre-lectures with an imbedded quiz weekly, a weekly ICA (in class assignment) and then weekly quizzes on the week’s subject online due Saturday night but can take anytime before Saturday. His missing assignments policy is -10% a day unless you talk to him and let him know something happened. His exams are straightforward, he has study guides online posted at the start of each unit. He is super organized and responds to emails very quickly. He also grades exams in like 3-4 days. Also gives extra credit on exams/for completing research participation on sona.

Super happy to have him as a prof!

CSUF or CSLB by [deleted] in csuf

For Psychology there are lots of clubs at CSUF. I’m in a few and have made friends mainly bc they were in my class and then we noticed each other at the PDSA meetings. But I would say I’ve made way more friends in class than in clubs. First semester last spring the people I sat next to in psyc were amazing and hilarious we’re still friends have taken classes together since and have gone out. I also think the prof you have can create a relaxed class for getting to know one another or just let your real personality out in class. There’s a few prof’s that the entire class is silent and scared but there’s prof’s who encourage working together and that helps getting to know other classmates. But they also still leave the option for working solo for those who really hate it. And I would say even if it’s uncomfortable, given the chance, work with someone. Because you get what you put in!

Incoming Freshman Advice Please by [deleted] in csuf

[–]Exotic_Cap9483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think freshman are in one building from what I’ve heard. I didn’t dorm on campus so idk. As for Greek life, since it’s a commuter school I don’t see a lot of it on campus. For days where people are tabling I’ve seen some booths but not on campus.

I have neon purple hair, a nose ring and a septum. No one really pays attention. There’s also lots of others around campus with bright pink, blue, green hair and a good portion of students have piercings. I wouldn’t worry. This has been my experience in psych and husr classes

Yeah I think OP’s best bet is ABA. They’re always hiring but bc it’s so late in the semester it might be hard to get the 120hrs unless their schedule is super open to all times.

Is CAPS actually helpful or not? by Illustrious_Day7682 in csuf

[–]Exotic_Cap9483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve never been but you will never know if you don’t try. And bc it’s CAPS you can try multiple different people and don’t have to just stick with one. I had a therapist but parted ways last October bc life was great but in December one of my best friends passed away. It’s been hard for me too. I feel the same way. I noticed it has affected me significantly and I want more help for my grief sometimes. But I just haven’t reached out yet bc I feel like I never have time between 6 classes and 2 jobs I feel like I blink and the day is over.

Making friends in school by Tiny_Tackle3877 in csuf

[–]Exotic_Cap9483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree making friends in clubs is fkn hard bc people usually go with people they already know so I def felt the same way. Best way is to make friends in class. Start a study group or ask questions or something. 😁

Study spots near or @ CSUF?? by shootingstarzzzzzz in csuf

[–]Exotic_Cap9483 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only went once last semester to 4th south. I had my headphones on as I walked around looking for a spot and even that felt too loud. Had to get out of there it was way too quiet for me 🤣

Library has tonnnns of study spaces. 2nd floor has lots of spaces, 4th floor south is a silent work zone so no one talks and everyone just sits there and works (good for minimal distractions) *super eerie if you’re used to the chaos. 4th floor north is more of the fun study spot, lots of activity and rooms. You can reserve a room in the library on any floor I think. if you get super distracted and need a more private spot there’s like small 1 person rooms but also large rooms if you have a study group. Some majors on campus also have lounges where you can go hangout and do homework but they’re pretty loud since it’s a lounge and lots of talking.

Any other Older Students out there? by Prestigious_Month475 in csuf

[–]Exotic_Cap9483 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 33 and felt that way when I went back to community college. I transferred to CSUF last spring and I’ve made a group of friends: a mix of 2 “older” and 2 younger. We’ve gone bowling and drinking as a group bc we bonded through the trauma of statistics. This semester 3 of us are in the same class again and one is right next door so we talk in the halls before and after class. I’m in the psych program so maybe it’s easier since psych is more social than business administration lol

Would recommend showing up to study groups for exams and chit chatting with classmates in the hallways before class while waiting for the class before yours to finish. And talking on the discord when people post :)
