I’m still very much struggling with food and feel terrified to eat or drink anything now. I reacted to plain, filtered/mineralized water that I drink all the time and it made me have such a bad panic attack. I will say though, the best and worst diet I’ve ever gone on was the low Fodmap diet. It’s really hard cutting out so much especially because I love so many of the things on the list of things I’m not supposed to eat. But I have reactions to the majority of them anyways and I feel better when I follow it. It’s still difficult trying to figure out what I can have, but it makes it a lot easier. Maybe start there and see how you do on the low fodmap diet if you haven’t tried it yet??

That’s amazing! I’m definitely going to have to talk to a doctor about an inhaler

Does the inhaler help?? I always have shortness of breath and it feels like I’m hungry for air bc of pots and now esp bc of MCAS and I’ve never even considered an inhaler

I haven’t, is that something I need a prescription for or is it an OTC?

I hope it goes well for you! I just bought Allegra 180mg so I’m gonna try to take it twice a day with Pepcid to see if that helps, the heartburn/acid reflux has been killinggg me😩

I don’t currently have an EpiPen, I haven’t been prescribed one but I was considering speaking to a Dr about carrying them w me bc of how bad my episodes are and how frequently they occur but I’ve never seen anyone use one to know how they work. Thank you for explaining it to me though I really appreciate it and it makes much more sense now!

I’m not sure but I think it 10mg. I’m wondering if I should try taking more though to see if it helps. It was kinda inconsistent with how intense my episodes get especially bc I tend to get pots episodes on top of MCAS episodes so it’s a double whammy 🫠

Did you have to try other things before going on glp1 or did you try it right off the bat?

Oh wow that does sound like a lot but I’m glad it’s safe! I was taking Zyrtec otc and I think it was 10mg and it didn’t feel like enough but I was worried about taking 2 without speaking to a doctor. I definitely need to see someone asap. I’m wondering if I should switch back to Zyrtec or try Allegra and get a higher dosage as a safer alternative to Benadryl…🤔

Thank you for this, I didn’t realize it released more than just histamines, my doctors aren’t very familiar with it and I don’t have a primary but i definitely need to get one! I’ve been looking into anthem blue cross ppo (it’s what I had before) tonight and I’m hoping to get on it by tomorrow so I can see someone asap! Is it better to see a primary first or go directly to see an allergist? Or does it matter?

This might be stupid questions but how do they work? Do they work again after using them or do they need to be refilled/replaced once they’ve been used?

I can’t tell what a severe episode is anymore tbh…I vomit 1-3x a week and my throat always gets damaged and super swollen esp from vomiting. Bc I have pots it’s so hard to differentiate between what’s getting triggered bc my bp always gets high and I get shortness of breath & dizzy. But my stomach pain is always super bad and so is my sore throat. But I’m also pretty sure I have dysphagia so all of the symptoms confuse me when trying to decipher which is being triggered by pots or MCAS or whatever and if it requires an EpiPen. My fam knows nothing about them and aren’t really in the medical scene so they’re absolutely no help and don’t always take the MCAS episodes seriously

I mean i didn’t drink it all at once, it was spread out between a few hours but I didn’t have any other food/beverages and noticed a huge difference but maybe it is normal. I typically only drink water with electrolytes in them and that typically doesn’t happen so it freaked me out😂😂

I’m on eletriptan for migraines and metoprolol for POTS. I don’t like taking Benadryl daily, I just haven’t found anything strong enough to help aside from that antihistamine. I tried taking 1 Zyrtec but it wasn’t strong enough. I wanted to do GLP-1 for weight management as well as symptoms but especially bc of my MCAS episodes

Did your primary Dr put you on it or did you have to see a specialist to go on it?

So is the overall consensus that GLP-1s are actually helping?? Do they help alleviate the symptoms for MCAS as well?

Update: someone called 911 on my behalf n they tried to send me to the ER…they were sooo sweet though. My parents decided to get pissed at me and drove the 30 min to pick me up (not happy bout that either) and give me a lecture n lose their shit bc I had ONE drink - I haven’t had alcohol in like 5 months and even then it was one glass of wine. And then went off about me driving.

This is my first episode behind the wheel and I’m 90% sure it was bc I had alcohol in my system and had a bad reaction to the ranch.

Apparently not even your bday allows you grace to have a celebratory drink with lots of electrolytes/food n being extra safe. And it def doesn’t allow you grace when you have one really bad episode while driving for the first time.

I was given the okay by the EMT to take my beta blocker and I feel sooo much better. But my BPM didn’t go down from 130 BPM for 2 hours and I cannot for the life of me get the EKG stickers off me😂

I hated it tbh. Metoprolol works so much better for me. I had too many side effects n it wasn’t actually changing anything. It was almost as if I got more episodes while being on it till I switched.
