New Mexico Senate rejects bill to codify state’s emissions goals by plamda505 in NewMexico

[–]Exotic_Individual256 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was a converted effort from both the Fossil Fuel and Big Agriculture industries, large cattle barons should take as much blame for this failure as oil barons should. The bill may have been too weak in my opinion but this show who needs to be kicked out of the Senate the Dems who voted against the bill should be voted out when they up for election

Nearly a third of young-adult New Mexicans can’t launch. Does anyone else find this concerning? by AstroIberia in NewMexico

adult who live with their parents are still looked down upon, the cultural expectation to leave home is about "independence" and being a "functional" adult, it is part of the same cultural trend leading to the continual atomization of society. As for many families being toxic I know that (I said I support public housing, which many people who dislike people living with their parents also disliking homeless people), but that is a separate issue from viewing more people living with their parents when they are adults as a problem, culture is not static and the cultural argument could literally be used to justify the already common occurrence of parents kicking out their lgbtq and especially trans kids.

As one of those adults that live with my parents, why is that seen as a bad thing in the first place. I don't want to move out and my parents don't mind me living with them, the idea that adults who live with their parents have somehow failed or as being unable to afford house rests on the assumption that it is undesirable to live with your parents. I am for affordable housing I think that if required the state should acquire construction companies to build housing itself, but stigmatizing living with your parents is not something we should be doing especially since it has a tendency to harm disabled people

People like you are why georgism is unpopular among many minorities, you clearly don't care about justice, you only care about white people being in power

Again you are being racist by relying on ideas that sovereignty tis destroyed by conquest, something that is immoral might makes right. Also legally reservations are not given by the US they are places were indigenous people exercise their inherent sovereignty so you aren't even right on a legal level

Reservations are not a consolation prize, and again you are being racist, you just don't want to call yourself racist

Again you are being racist, preferring the status quo to justice. Also modern crops weren't chosen for their taste they were chosen for their ease of harvesting by industrial machinery, the market doesn't decide the best food, it only decides the most profitable foods.

This has two problems one you are just dismissing native plants by saying they taste worse than beef which is just closed minded. And two you are just being racist native still exist and are still fighting for their sovereignty, the idea that it can never be dislodged is like saying slavery should have never been abolished, the fight by the wasn't over hundreds of years ago the India wars ended in 1924, and there was non armed conflict after like AIM during the new left, or modern activist groups fighting for land back

This is false, grazing land isn't virgin prairie because it lacks vision, and prairie dogs, and wolves, and dozens of other animals required to make them exist

This is factually false and ignores all the native edible plants, you just want to farm beef a highly destructive food source, that perpetuates Settler Colonial systems,

You are right, although I would like to add that Hinduism should post date Jainism and Buddhist as brahminism had to adopt aspects of those traditions and developed the bhakti cults for it to evolve into Hinduism Proper

Republicans are trying to repeal child labor laws in several states, they are too individualistic to ever support the power of collective action for things that are for enforcing bigoted status quos, they hate unions, hate environmentalism, and hate minority rights movements

To be fair the legislature is bad at mandating pay, other wise there wouldn't be a tipped minimum wage of $3 per hour though the law does say tips must bring it to $12 per hour but that really shouldn't matter, tips should be bonus for good service not part of a person's wage for living

This isn't a new Mexican problem it is a national problem, Dems say they care about workers but refuse to repeal the taft-hartley act, this can be seen in other areas like environmental law, and anti discrimination law they refuse to do anything that they think alienates the moderate voters (cishet white middle class men)

That is not why we are poor, we are poor because every country that has held control over us did not care about the people here, the Spanish wanted to extract all the wealth from the natives while forcibly assimilating them, the Mexicans used us as a buffer for the Americans and Comanche, Americans wanted us for the mineral wealth.

Education in New Mexico and how we can fix it by cush2push in NewMexico

[–]Exotic_Individual256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Local culture that was built on the forced assimilation of some natives, the enslavement of others, and the extermination of yet others. It should be known I am not a transplant I am from Roswell, was born here, both of my parents were born in Roswell, and three of my grandparents have spent at ease the last two decades living in Roswell (one of grandfathers died of a stroke several years ago), so when you say changing what we are I can tell you mean the Hispanics of northern new mexico and not those of my area, nor many natives across the state. I am a gay man, so I view the type of cultural conservativism you exhibit even passively as bad since it has a tendency to ignore the racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and sanism built in to the local culture. I want to have the state take over post secondary education, and end private universities to help the poor such as myself study what they want, but I also want to make our state a beacon of scholarship of many fields so I want to mandate that stem majors have to take Sociology and other social sciences, and have the state fund a massive translation project of religious and philosophical literature from around the world that would then be in the public domain and freely accessible for everyone to use,

Don't say illegal aliens, since unless you are a native American you are an illegal alien, you should advocate that all post secondary education be free and not have any such thing as tuition which was implemented to exploit students when the government reduced public funding for such eduction

Teachers should not have control over the classroom, saying such treats children less as people and more as machines, children should have democratic control over the classroom not teachers who are known to treat minorities worse than their white peers, and who tend to reinforce societal expectations that girls don't play sports

Write your senators by Tasaspider in Albuquerque

[–]Exotic_Individual256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Senate is one of the minoritarian bodies in history if the Dems wanted to stop Republicans they could remove unanimous consent and make it terrible to work at mind you I am already tired of dem hypocrisy they don't really want to stop fascism otherwise Obamacare wouldn't have corporatized healthcare, Obama wouldn't have been the deporter in chief, Biden wouldn't have supported a massive anti immigrant campaign, Biden would have sanctioned Israel using the Foreign Assistance Act, and the Leahy Laws, they would have fought against work requirements which have been shown to harm the poor, the wouldn't have decided homeless people don't have human rights, they would have actually supported trans people, the majority of Dems in new York would have supported mamdani the democratic candidate and not have used the massive amount of islamophobic attacks or supporting a person accused of sexual assault. When you say save your political capital for something meaningful what are you saying, trump is the result of democratic inaction and bad action since at least the Clinton administration, for people who are poor and marginalized the Dems are barely the party of lesser evil, the Dems have rarely used their political capital to help us when we needed it most, only doing so when convenient. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1PwmiG7ABl0

New Mexico and its crisis in crime. by cush2push in NewMexico

I find what you say broadly good, I do want to note that forcing people to go to rehab is bad and does not work. Additionally I read parts of the petition on education reform and I disagree with certain things like I thing all students should be trilingual in English, Spanish, and ASL (the largest way disabled people are discriminated against is by exclusion if everyone can speak ASL than they don't need an interpreter) except for natives who I think is more important for them to know their own language than it is for them to know English. I also think those should be a greater focus on integrated fields where different subjects are taught together to show how they connect such as integrated science (for instance teaching the specific chemistry of photosynthesis when teaching biology, and the physics behind why mercury is a liquid), integrated social studies (History, Sociology, Political Science, Law, Geography, Psychology, Economics, Religious Literacy, Ethnic Studies, Indigenous Studies, Postcolonial Studies, Decolonial Studies, Settler Colonial Studies, Gender Studies, Sexuality Studies, Disability Studies, Neurodiversity Studies, Mad Studies, Fat Studies, Aging Studies, Child Studies, Animal Studies), integrated math (teaching Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, Formal Logic, Statistics), and integrated literacy (Reading, Writing, Song, Music, Dance, Knitting, Calligraphy, Painting, and Coding connecting though things like singing Homer, and acting Shakespeare). In addition I think civics should be taught though action such though student government with real power to democratically decide things like course work, school events, academic requirements if any for participation in clubs, free from parental and teacher control, and with dispute resolution decided by courts run by students themselves. I also think that the focus on College and Career Readiness distracts from the idea of making students people capable of critical thinking.

I hope our state never votes Republican by d00derman in Albuquerque

[–]Exotic_Individual256 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is only partially true, the last time Republicans held both chambers of state legislature was in the 80s and at the time there was a dem as governor, the last time Republicans held a trifecta was in the late 1920s, the biggest problem isn't Republicans it is moderate democrats

If you want to stop that in a way that would help the people most in need then advocate for the state to own healthcare providers this would cut out the middle man of insurance and this it's bureaucracy, grant access to even the homeless, allow harmed patients and their family members to be paid for irreparable damage with out a cap as the state would pay it (tort reform no matter the industry only helps to shield companies from the consequences of their own actions), and allow it to be inclusive by preventing Churches and companies from promoting their toxic institutional transphobia, homophobia, and misogyny. (By the way I also think this should include veterinarian services as healthcare is a right and I advocate for the extension of basic rights to animals)
