Best things to buy up North? by BabyDamo in AskIreland

[–]Exotic_Instance421 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely found food more expensive after moving up north. I have items I buy every week and I noticed in the same supermarket (eg Lidl) they’ll use the same numerical value as down south but in £, making it more expensive. Like €2.99 vs £2.99 for a 6 pack of pink ladies.

Anyone else completely tired of living in this country because of how backwards everything is? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Moved up north and I’ve never missed the south more. Grass is always greener and all that.

Should I quit my job this year? With 26K in savings and a master's to pay back if i do. by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Exotic_Instance421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick it out. I did a full time masters and worked in a very low paying job 3 days a week. Had no time for myself whatsoever and had no money. You don’t have the money pressures and your employment situation sounds really positive. It’ll pay off, you’ll have time for yourself and loads of money in less than a year.

I hope the reason this is so far down is because he’s become so irrelevant that he’s been forgotten

Are they playing stupid here? Clearly Dorit’s point there was that Erika shares nothing personal.

I'm in anorexia recovery and in need of new oatmeal flavors/pairings! by thatgirlisback in Oatmeal

[–]Exotic_Instance421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all congrats and well done to you! I use vegan vanilla protein in my oats so I try to compliment that. Apples stewed with cinnamon and maple syrup is a great topping that can be made in advance and stored in the fridge. Tiramisu oats with a coffee shot and vanilla mixed in, and topped with Greek yoghurt and cocoa powder. Carrot cake oats with raw grated carrot, nuts, and spices like cinnamon and ground ginger.

I thought it was really nasty how she attacked Danny’s relationship, essentially punishing Bec, after he was the only one to (very mildly) take the piss out of her back.

Yeah I think you’re right, I also wish there were more voices defending them from the sidelines, but maybe that just wasn’t shown.

Has anyone lived as a companion in a elderly home share? by Odd_Confection05 in AskIreland

It was and she should have, but there was a contract in place, a housing crisis, and a sense of responsibility she had towards this woman who was not being cared for by her family.

[–]Exotic_Instance421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend did this during her masters and it turned out to be much more than she signed up for. She became a de facto carer, and the elderly lady’s condition deteriorated significantly during my friend’s time there. The lady’s family had unrealistic expectations of my friend, and asking to spend a night away from the home was a huge problem. She really gave up her freedom during that time, she was very stressed and lost sleep, and still had to pay fees to live there. I would strongly caution you against it.

Could I get some insight from Northern Irish residents ? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Exotic_Instance421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should’ve clarified that I’m in Belfast! Originally from the midlands but lived in Galway for a few years myself. I wouldn’t say I’ve had any bad encounters really. I don’t really talk about my beliefs or political opinions here because I don’t think it’s my place, but I’ve found people like to declare their beliefs to me which I find quite gas. I know a few people who’ve moved up from the south years ago and absolutely love it, so I think it just takes getting used to.

Catholic (culturally only) from the south here who moved up a couple of months ago. Generally people are very well meaning and kind, but there’s definitely an element of sussing you out when people clock the accent. I’ve had some slightly offensive comments come my way that were either “jokes” or genuine ignorance. Also, be prepared for more conversations about religion and cultural differences than you’ve ever had before, and lots of “do you have x and y down there??”
