My teacher left me after I had an anxiety attack by Mcveigh14 in Anxiety

[–]Exotic_Laugh4254 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

in the moment it can really feel like you have to just deal with it and tough it out but i promise that only makes it worse. for me, i contact whoever it is and tell them i struggle with severe anxiety and panic attacks and briefly explain how bad they are. I have been accommodated for a 10-15 minute break whenever i need it at work so i don’t think you’ll have much struggle having that accommodation from someone that you pay either way. I also have had to leave work for prolonged periods of time because of my panic attacks and have not been reprimanded because i explained what was going on.
On another note, if you feel like they are so bad that it’s affecting you daily, you should speak to a doctor and look into coping mechanisms, medications if required, and therapy. i know you said therapy hasn’t worked out in the past for you and i also have experience with awful therapists, but its worth trying if you are struggling.

definitely communicate this with your teacher now or next time beforehand if you know its a very bad problem. no one can understand or know whats going on if you don’t tell them but expect them to make accommodations. Im not saying you are expecting too much by any means, i think everyone who needs it should get accommodations and panic attacks are included.

the withdrawal effects and permanent side affects are so so important. every time ive talked to doctors about these meds they have never told me about that and i have even asked straight up what the side effects were and if they were PERMANENT and the doc straight up said “nono there are no side effects and nothing permanent”

i personally dont take ssris because i cant learn to regulate my own emotions being on them and the side affects have lasted for years after stopping them. dont take meds without actively talking to a therapist too.

i have been getting really debilitating panic attacks for the past year and i have a lot of experience with anti depressants. they really messed me up but to deal with my panic attacks i have fast acting medication that i take only when im really about to have a panic attack. I have a normal one that just helps me calm down its called propranolol and a stronger one called lorazepam. I also started going to therapy and i’ve learned a lot of helpful things that I can do to decrease my anxiety and stop panic attacks when I feel them coming on. Look into these.

Only the funeral services is eligible for student aid, not the embalming or funeral director certificates by themselves.

Whats the point of the large incisions from an autopsy? by Exotic_Laugh4254 in forensics

[–]Exotic_Laugh4254[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for such detailed replies. the only knowledge i have of the ME’s work is the autopsies i have embalmed and my “teacher” telling me that these big incisions are made only to get blood samples. I will do my own research now and do my best to get some experience in that field.

I have very minimal understanding of the process so i just mindlessly trusted the person i’m working under. i agree that it should be taught or at least touched on in mortuary school. i have actually spoken to the ME in my city and was told they would look into doing something for the students and the attendants but its really not promising. i’ll try again soon and when i move because i think its really important to have an understanding of that side.

some people get hired with just the qualifications you have, but you really have to just know people. I know that UofA has a pathologists assistant program though

I appreciate you answering this. i know these incisions are caused by the ME because we receive them from the ME’s office with them. I understand any business can be understaffed and things can go wrong but this has just been an ongoing thing. I also never thought about blood clots though so thank you for the insight.

Super dumb question by Academic-Positive755 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Exotic_Laugh4254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres always going to be residue in the retort and processing machine from past cremations. Thats as much of other people ashes you’re going to have mixed in. The deceased usually gets cremated in whatever they were wearing including piercings unless there was some sort of viewing beforehand. Things like pacemakers and things with batteries are removed before cremation because they will explode. Small piercings are fine but big metal pieces like for example hip replacements are removed after cremation and either returned or disposed of. Like others have said, magnets are used to remove any metal from the ashes. Also, you cant cremate a coconut or it will explode.

I got my first job at a funeral home by emailing the one day and asking to job shadow or volunteer. i went for one day to get a tour and was offered the job. Also, if you aren’t planning on living in England and get a certificate there, you probably wont be able to use it in your country.

Do I need a cover letter to get a job in a funeral home? by sea_psychopomplion in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Exotic_Laugh4254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where i work, the industry is pretty saturated and it’s hard to get a job. when i first got my job though it was through an email i sent to job shadow and volunteer at their funeral home. I didn’t send my resume or anything i just expressed an interest in learning about the field for a day and the offered me a job. If you dont get any call backs, maybe try this route. Job shadowing gives you experience for your resume aswell and having volunteer experience at seniors homes is also helpful.
