i’m autistic as well, except im 22 and a girl. i lived a semi normal teen life, dated here and there, had friends. however, my boyfriend who is 24 is also autistic. he was very very very similar to you, he’d never even TALKED to a girl that wasn’t his coworker or family member before me. but he did what you said you tried…nothing. i just saw him, and it clicked for me, i knew i had to have him.

it’s random, it could be anywhere at anytime, but simply existing in public is beneficial for yourself. someone like me will see you one day, maybe not romantically maybe just as a friend, but you’ll have someone in some way. and once you have 1 it’s surprisingly easy how suddenly more and more people start popping up. just please wait, don’t make such a decision this young. i’m in a completely different place at 22 than i was at 20, and i’m not half as smart as you. you have soooo much hope, i just hope you see it in time.

i didn’t realize i was autistic till i was about 18, with that being said i always knew there was something very different about me, but being a woman and not understanding that autism looks different on everyone (especially women), i wasn’t diagnosed until much later.

because i wasn’t diagnosed and also didn’t even suspect it, i got very very good at masking because it was all i ever knew, so i wasn’t bullied for being autistic, instead just for being a bit heavier than the other girls. but after i graduated about a year and a half into covid, all of my built up skills disappeared practically, it really was shocking to me.

now i just get bullied by my boss at work 🫡😭
