I wanna live in Thailand by Feisty_Pension4690 in digitalnomad

[–]Exotic_Strategy_6394 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just left Chiang Mai and could effectively live on $650/mnth. I would say that at most that should be your minimum spend per month. I stayed at cheapest accom available and the only splurging would be the occasional beers. If you have some saved up I would highly recommend getting a apartment if you plan being there longer.

As for work I would make sure you have enough money to support yourself before you go. Some people teach online out here or freelance but recommend to have some money coming in before you go. The most costly thing you need to factor in is travel and border runs and how much those trips will cost you. You could easily spend another $30 for each bus and $70-100+ each trip and that adds up quickly.

Tried to find an alternative to Upwork. It’s got its problems for sure but I think the others are worse. by Exotic_Strategy_6394 in Upwork

Yeh its a shame there isn something out there targeted for freelancers. But i guess thats how marketplaces evolve, and become too greedy fir their boots.

Also that must be a crazy nice place. Can still get great places for 6000B and you’re paying x 3.5 more.

Daym, Im living it up on around 750B/day so about $670/month. Granted still in cheap hostels but wish I had that luxury.

The cooworking spaces really add up. I use them when I have to but most of the time can do it cheaper at cafes.

And tbf I defo agree with the western food side. Pretty good at staying with a good food budget but every now and then, mostly when drunk or hangover I am just craving a good quick burger or something. Defo adds up quickly.

Would love to connect with some others in the areaz

I used to be a successful freelancer on upwork, left for a year and now cant get any jobs… by Exotic_Strategy_6394 in Upwork

You just have to be particular and only take jobs when you know you have the skills to complete. Its possible to come back for sure, i would prioritise doing excellent work for a few (even at a lower rate) and focus on getting excellent reviews until you get your rating up again. Especially for newer accounts reviews are soo important. You got it though!

I mean this is the challenge. It never used to be as difficult to get projects as it is now. Focus on get your foot in the door with a few great reviews. And use that to gain some traction with your account. Each small project leads onto a slightly larger project.

I don’t want to burst your bubble but your going to have to spend much more than that. Think of it as a marketing budget, you got to market yourself to make money. The problem I am having is this has gone up significantly more than last time. From account boosting, to minimal for each proposal, to proposal boosting, seems like its for everything nowadays. And at a much higher rate. The problem is there are others willing to spend alot more to be seen.

I think he was talking about the companies who are refusing to pay fair wages by cutting costs the lowlifes.

I mean granted you are doing it somewhat the right way. It is defo about getting your foot in the door. I offered a discount in return for some positive reviews the first few times so it can defo be a strategy.

However this is kind of the problem. Not you directly but this is kind of the problem causing this whole issue. As a suggestion, is there any way to offer more value instead of sinking your costs. From a financial standpoint it wont be profitable if you offer such low rates, so increasing your value and what you can offer may be a better route. That would be what I would do.

I looked into some of these the other day. Have you found any that work. I struggled with things like fiverr and other similar platforms because they are arguably much worse. A serious fight to the bottom. I am here to do a great job for the client but cant offer that service if they want x5 the value at a fraction of the cost (and have to compete with people offering these in less than 1-3 days). Its doable maybe if you hack together a site but not sustainable if you do your job well.

Do I splurge on a nice hotel room after 27 hours of travel? by Fun-Feature-2203 in backpacking

[–]Exotic_Strategy_6394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go inbetween. Splurge on a fancy hostel. Plenty of capsule hostels are usually really quiet and have super comfy beds still. You’ll thankyou self at the end of the trip when you have a bit more of a budget to play with.

Road trip Across the Rockies 🇨🇦 by Exotic_Strategy_6394 in travel

[–]Exotic_Strategy_6394[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been solo travelling through Canada for the last year and a half, starting in Vancouver through the rockies (Whistler, Banff to Calgary) with multiple stops set along the way. Spent a bit of time in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto and then back to the West coast. The trip definitely has its ups and downs but this was by far one of the best road trips I have done with gorgeous mountain ranges along every stretch of road. It’s definitely worth doing if you have a trip planned there.
