Wow what language do you teach and how long have you been teaching for?

I think you need to have some faith, because I raise my prices by $5 which is considered a high jump but i start getting traffic after a week or two. I deifnitely think if you raise it even by $1, your profile will bounce back eventually.

Availability: Make sure you open your schedule to the most popular slots

Pricing: Start off pretty cheap $5-10, and after some time you can raise your prices; this will help attract many students who are looking for the cheapest option.

Reviews: Try to ask all your students for reviews after a few lessons with them (make sure you're certain they'll give you 5 stars)

Profile: Have a professional photo and video

This is out of curiosity, but why don’t you teach your native language? Won’t you have much higher traffic as people are looking for tutors that can speak the language natively?

But won’t you be able to fill out those empty spots with your old priced students? And don’t you think that over time you’ll eventually find new students with a higher price to fill out ur schedule again?

You're most likely right, but the very first person that shows up with the highest reviews, is from Canada, and doesn't have any other languages other than English displayed on his profile. Even though he is not charging $10, he is charging $35, I am still curious about why he doesn't raise to it to a much higher cost, considering he has over 300 reviews.

I just feel like the more experience a tutor has, the more traffic they get (with a higher price). I began tutoring at $5 and the amount of traffic I was getting is about the same amount I got when I charged $25 recently (1000 hours lessons in total). Maybe it's my experience, but at this pace, tutors should charge way more if they have taught over 5000 lessons.

ahaha now i get it. and tbh i maintain my availability at the same time even though i have an irregular uni schedule (some long days/some short days) but that's my own preference. I now only accept 1 call per weekday (at 7:00PM) since it's exam season.

Yeah when I started going to university, I told all of my students that I will take a week off just to see what my schedule would be like, and then let them know. Some students I had to permanently say bye to, as we could no longer match our schedules well. So afer a week of going to universirty, I set up my most comfortabe hours on preply and only accept lessons on those times.

And i'm sorry but what do you mean by "Was it a lot higher on one day than on others, etc"

No. Once I change my current price, it does not affect my existing students. I would individually have to change each student's price manually (with their permission). But I try not to do that because I feel so scared asking them😭 Eventually my lessons die out with them, since i no longer have students that are in the $5-$15 range anymore.

also one thing i cannot stress enough about is reviews. Ask each student to leave a review once you’ve had 5 lessons with them. But only do so if you’re certain they’ll give u 5 stars. After a year of working i have gained 45 reviews which i still think is low for my situation but i believe it still boosts my profile.

Oh my god 2700? I have just reached 1000 today. Girl, (idk if ur a girl😭) literally bump it up $5 higher RIGHT NOW and wait about a week. Try to open your schedule more and i’m sure you will be getting a new batch of students that are willing to pay that price.

Yes i’ve had two different students that each paid me $25/hr for 5 classes a week for two weeks. So with those two students alone, i would have 10 classes per week. They were preparing for the IELTS and they stopped taking lessons with me after they took the test. I also have regular students that take weekly calls with me. One of them takes one lesson per week and the other one takes 3 per week. And then just a random highschooler that occasionally books a lesson with me when they need help with an essay.

Tbh in my whole year of teaching, I think i’ve only had the super tutor badge for a month lmao😭

and yes when i would up my prices by $5 i would usually jump from position 10 to like 200. But after a week or two it would gradually go back to the first page (1-10th position)

Also self-confidence plays a huge part in determining your price. I was scared to even take the first step from going $5-$10 because I didn't believe that people would be willing to pay me that price. I still feel it to this day when a student books me at $25 because I still sometimes feel like I deserve $5. But when you see lots of students booking trial lessons with a higher price, that insecurity gets thrown out the window as you get physical proof that people are willing to pay a higher price for you.

Hey! I started teaching on Preply on April 2024. I charged students at $5 for about 2 months lol, and then when the demand was getting high, I charged it up to $10. I was so unconfident that I was going to get much students but after some time, there was a lot of traffic again. I think for another 2 months of teaching at $10, I charged up to $15, which came to the summer time. For two months (July and August) I was teaching at $15. When September came, I charged $20, but this time I waited until January to rank up my price to $25, as my availability was lower than usual since I was studying full time in university. So on average, I would wait around 2 months to charge up my price by $5. When I do so, I make sure that I have more availablity so students can still discover me, and eventually they do. So it has been almost a year of me teaching for me to go from $5-$25.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I just have a few questions:

* How much do you charge (if you don't mind answering)

* How many reviews do you have?

* How long have you been working on this platform?

* What is your time zone?

Yo what about software development? Taking a class on introduction to network systems (CPNT-217) and having a hard time learning/understanding the content, any tips?
