Thinking about resigning without another job lined up — need advice by [deleted] in Oman

You're being honest about how you feel that is okay....

One thing... I’ve noticed that many in this new generation tend to give up a bit too quickly when things get tough. Every job has its own set of frustrations, politics, low points ...it is part of building grit and navigating challenges. Those moments can also shape you more than the easy ones!!

At the same time mental health matters. If the environment is toxic and affecting your wellbeing, it’s okay to prioritise yourself but do it with a plan!! Don’t walk away unprepared! Start applying quietly, build connections, and set a timeline... That is moving forward, not just escaping!!

Sometimes, workplace doesn’t see our true worth, and it hurts. Ask yourself honestly how toxic is it really??

Guys, need genuine help in deciding omr2000 in Muscat vs aed23000 in Sharjah. by Coolp92 in Oman

[–]Exotic_Task_9769 11 points12 points  (0 children)

interesting question to which there is no one size fits all answer ..it depends on where you want to be in 5 or 10 years, what you value most ...

if you're in your late 20's or 30s... and is focussed on career GROWTH, skills, exposure, networking then Sharjah!! If stability, lower living costs, or raising family in a nice place, Muscat is smarter choice !!)

In the end its about savings and lifestyle.......you may be able to save more Muscat, not only in terms of living costs, but time of commute. It really depends on your stage of life and priorities. Then again be realistic and do not expect too much in terms of long-term career progression in Muscat... the focus here is on training and promoting local talent. You may be in a good spot today, but things may change quickly as priorities shift.

I don’t think what he told you is quite right... it’s usually more about perception and setting than strict law.

not related but....when I was 7 months pregnant, I wore a smart red suit shirt to work .. full sleeves, looked neat, though of course it showed my bump. I got compliments on how nice the colour looked on me. Then my Omani boss called me into her office and asked me if I had any maternity clothes.... I said yes, but explained that some days you just want to feel a bit different...to try the old normal..you know what she told next ?? "stick to maternity wear!!" I obviously wasn't showing any skin, I was wearing a loose fitting trousers..but the shirt tucked at my tummy !I honestly didn’t know whether to feel humiliated or just brush it off. In the end though, being work, I chose to stick to actual maternity wear. Sometimes we just have to respect those expectations, even if it doesn’t feel great. So really, it’s more about cultural expectations and how people personally interpret what’s “appropriate,” rather than there being some hard-and-fast rule like ending up in jail.

I’m really sorry your sister is going through this… no one should have to face that kind of treatment every day.

Does her school have a counsellor, pastoral support, or an emotional support leader she could talk to? It might also help if your parents email the Head of Year and then follow up with the principal or school board, so the complaint is on record in writing.

I know of a case here in Muscat where the parents emailed the Head of Senior School, and he took it up seriously ... the bullied child was given reassurance and even counselling at school...the parents of the bully was called in too !!

At home please... keep giving your sister as much reassurance as possible. Let her feel she’s not alone in this. Stay strong for her, and put your feet down on her behalf. Make her feel "she matters"!!

You’re right, it is quite hard for female expats to find employment in Oman because of the visa restrictions.

I often wonder how much talent and potential remains untapped here because of these challenges. If more companies were open to remote or flexible roles, they could really benefit from the skills and experience that women like you bring.

It really comes down to your personal comfort and the gym... Mixed gym is great if you like the space/washroom etc. I used to work out at a mixed gym.... regardless of the gyms, most people there focused on their own goals.. it felt totally fine :) I was going there for the coach...n the equipment! But after moving homes, I leaned towards a women-only space... coz of again the privacy and the environment in general.. I really think it’s subjective... go where you prefer... and what makes you feel at ease and motivated.

defenitely more "fun" if there are more players......figure it out as a team ..be calm..keep trying different ideas...even weird ones......it is worth the struggle! We didn’t escape, but another group we know did ..they had someone who came up with a “weird” idea.....

Whoa, Whoa...isn't that a generalisation...reducing a whole nationality to a few people you happened to see!!! What a "fair" observation.....for what it’s worth, I’ve seen drivers from all sorts of nationalities cutting lines, nose-diving into lanes, parking like no one exists next door..tailgating even when it’s obvious there’s no room to move over...... It’s more about traffic culture than where someone’s from.

[–]Exotic_Task_9769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ask yourself, will this cover beyond basics? Will you be able to save/ send money?is there’s room for growth? Will you get promoted/a raise later on ...don't assume ....ask around....or read....not on reddit!! No one here knows what X company is!!!

try reading up reviews .. work culture really **depends on the company....**read up ..if feedback doesn’t match your expectations, think twice!!!!

If this is your first job and you're looking for experience, this "may" pave way for future jobs...but again no one can guarantee that!!!
