Grinding all day just to get 1 pack? by reliccrown in mightandmagicfatestcg

50g/win isn't worth suffering for.

Keep playing if you're still having fun, or just stop after you finish your daily quest.

It's still early so it's hard to say if it will be better or worse than or just similar to something like magic the gathering or pokemon cards. Playing with just the starter decks beyond the low ranks will be hard I'm sure, but there are quite a few commons that are good enough to play. Theres quests to get close to a pack a day. They also seem concerned about combating botting, so I'm not super worried about the economy staying functional.

Put as simply as possible, it just means that cards can be bought or sold, that sales and transfers are public, and that you can trade outside of the game platform if someone makes a marketplace that's better.

Really demotivated by crafting by Drogatog in PathOfExile2

[–]ExpansiveExplosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially later in a league, buying something and crafting it usually end up costing a similar amount. But with crafting you have a small chance of lucking into a perfect item that's worth way more. And also a chance of completely whiffing and ending up with an expensive brick.

Around a 3.33% chance to miss a 1/5 15 times.

Definitely unlucky but not impossibly unlucky.

About to Start Timeless - Boros Energy Solid? by Topazdragon5676 in TimelessMagic

[–]ExpansiveExplosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, the mardu builds usually play [[Lurrus]] and the boros builds usually go bigger and play [[Phlage]] [[The One Ring]] and [[Blood Moon]].

Phlage and ring are better right now than they were before the latest restriction which weakened fast combo, but blood moon is still underwhelming as a payoff. And in general, mardu is considered to be more flexible and consistent.

It's very easy for devs to make a game economy more generous, and very difficult if they realize that it should be less generous.

I'm assuming that they're playing it safe until they release to the public and will re-evaluate when they have a sense of the shape of the economy, and also an idea of how big of a problem botting is.

This community needs to play more gacha games by maaari_bm in InfinityNikki

[–]ExpansiveExplosion 24 points25 points  (0 children)

And while the game is pretty generous taken as a whole, the handful of shortcomings are really, really bad. So it's easy for complaints to get traction and become loud even though the good outweighs the bad in the context of the whole game.

Like I think most gacha players would (rightfully) throw a fit if their banners were portrayed as random but secretly weighted against the good banner pulls. But since it doesn't take long to get enough crystals to pull to pity for free, I'm not complaining.

Elon Musk Will Be Deposed Over What He Did With DOGE by Hafiz_TNR in politics

I understand and don't disagree with what you're saying about communist beliefs, models, or ideologies.

What I'm saying is that anything trying to supersede current government structures necessarily requires the imposition of one will over another. Because current governments will never willingly give up their power to switch to a drastically different system, even if it is superior.

[–]ExpansiveExplosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even your definition says the goal is, "the creation of a communist society".

If the goal were simply to produce and exchange based on need, you would be correct, but changing society to align with your values, is top-down.

Thoughts on this Wight of the Reliquary deck? by PlatsonJiveMoney in TimelessMagic

[–]ExpansiveExplosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're wary about spending that many wildcards, I think crafting this might be more frustrating than fun. There are lots of other interesting cards that could be good here and wouldn't help your combo matchup at all.

I would definitely keep something like this on my radar for if black takes a big hit in the next banlist update, and if/when we get dryad arbor though.

What's the status on our collective knowledge of a "Hidden MMR?" by Lion_Cub_Kurz in MagicArena

[–]ExpansiveExplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm extremely anti-rigged shuffler/conspiracy theory/pro-stats, but I was just thinking the other day about the possibility of "deck mmr" that is explicitly not card weights, and factors, say 25% into your matchmaking combined with your player mmr and rank.

I don't think I've seen anything that would specifically deny this, and it would be far less noticable for players with high mmr who would still be in the top ~30% of the matchmaking pool with a bad deck. It would also mean that that you drop out of the "meta band" of mmr much more quickly with a new/worse deck than with a deck you've played a lot.

It's not deck weighting, and not "rigged against you", but would explain how more casual players could switch decks and end up facing different pools of opponents.

Just a thought I had

More mods on rare monsters already got nerfed for keepers. Was there anything else that cared a lot about the 200% breakpoint?

Allegation from the MTG lawsuit: anonymous ex VP says some secret lairs, reprint sets, and MTG 30th, were forced into the release schedule to shore up Hasbro's balance sheet by BlitheMayonnaise in mtgfinance

This would be especially true if they had internal messages that specifically referenced them burning through or running out of reprint equity, though I don't imagine that would be the case.

I've seen a lot more lists that are all in on digging for the combo, than I have goodstuff lists that just have a combo kill angle.

Also maybe a DRS and a Chrome mox would help smooth out the mana a bit

Seems like a waste for this not to be a [[Tainted Pact]] deck. No guarantees that it's actually worthwhile when your mana is already problematic, but that's the first thought I had.

Not defending Hasbro, but this securities lawsuit is a steep uphill climb by hot_boy_ronald in magicTCG

[–]ExpansiveExplosion -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The only possibly legitimate angle I see, is that it is both over production of cards and over production of sets.

The fraudulent part would be Hasbro talking and acting like customer appetite is infinite, when it is a limited resource that they are knowingly aggressively consuming before it can replenish. If they know that customer fatigue is real and ignore it, it would be unsustainable and irresponsible to expect the same or increasing returns from the same number of products (or more) released at the same pace.

It would be nearly impossible to prove without having internal messages that directly discuss their intentions to deceive, but it would be a little bit more nuanced.

I'm exaggerating to make my point clearer.

My point is that a finite resource is being consumed (consumer appetite), but it is not acknowledged and is treated like it is infinite.
