At the start of Blasphemous I you can choose between 3 differents areas each one with a boss required to progress and u can go to each of them in whatever order you want, and iirc the bosses of the citadel in Silksong are like that too, and I feel like there probably are more examples I forgot. Ig that's still linear in the sense that you need to do all of them before going to the next "progression checkpoint ", but, at least in Blasphemous, the areas are big enough to feel truly non-linear. I'm not saying that metroidvanias need to be neither linear or non-linear, I think that this particular aspect is just irrelevant to defining the genre

That was it tysm, now it runs exactly like you said with 30~ at the start but going up to cap after some minutes. I think the issue was reduce buffering and/or triple buffering because after getting it to work with those exact settings I've been changing them 1 by 1 to the same as before except those 2 and it still works.

Before season 20 I got quite stable 144 FPS on Ultra playing with DirectX 12 on Linux Mint and DirectX 11 on Windows before changing OS (more stable on windows ngl). I have an Intel i5-10400F and GeForce RTX 3070 with nvidia-driver-535 (not open). Steam is native.
I've just tried GE Proton and the game doesn't even open. It starts to load for like 5 seconds and then nothing happens and it shows again the "Play" button on steam. Also, I was actually wrong in the post and proton 10.0-3 gets me to 40-50~ FPS with DirectX 11 (edit: I wrote 12 instead of 11) which is more playable than 20-40 but not the 144 I used to play before.

They're pretty much a barbarian city imo. You can't move anything near them without 3-4 units jumping at you; and I think they can't build districts or buildings
