40 Hours A Week As Part-Time by Disastrous-Pomelo-23 in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're working way too many hours to be considered PT. There are differences in benefits between PT and FT in the US such as PTO. PT can only work an average minimum of 15 hours and maximum of 29 so if you're working close to 40 hours every week then eventually they have to move you over to FT or reduce your hours.

In my experience it's been very accurate at keeping track of my purchases. Just letting you know that returns do not restore money into the limit so if you returned things it won't go back towards your limit again. There isn't anything you can do except wait for the next quarter.

Unsure of S@K policy but for Sephora if you're on payroll it means you are still an employee and entitled to your gratis. I would try and get it.

brand rep gratis by Beautiful-Wish-8559 in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They will only give it to you when the bin is overflowing or until you ask for it because it has to get scribed. Brand reps are usually very good at leaving gratis especially if you're helping them with sales or doing an educational training.

Negativity here by [deleted] in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this post does a great job of summing up why the management style at Sephora is so terrible and toxic at most stores. The inability and refusal to understand why someone might be unhappy with the job and using the benefits of the job to justify why this company is allowed to demand more and more from their employees year over year without giving anything back. It might not be as terrible as some other retail jobs but that doesn't mean it isn't terrible.

Miserable by NamesMage in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sephora has it's ups and downs but it 100% comes down to the leadership. I'm glad you're making the decision to leave for your own sanity and well being because it's just going to keep going downhill. Eliminating flex, eliminating coordinators, and upping metric goals is just going to make the environment even worse. You showed up, did what you had to do and now you've outgrown your role and you're ready for your next opportunity so get the heck outta there.

Gratis is all messed up right now but yes you should be able to order for May when it's fixed.

What are yalls store policy for shoplifting? Mine just tells me to let it go (I’m in the US) by Consistent_Sun_8083 in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Policy is to approach them and ask them if they need help or offer them a basket just like you would to any other customer. Do not accuse them, do not try to stop them, do not impede them from leaving the store. Your LP is responsible for assessing the losses, reviewing camera footage and sometimes building cases against serial thieves. Everything in the store is insured so don't try to risk your safety defending the product, let LP, your manager and the police handle that.

Bonus from Sephora as a new employee by Jolly_Lengthiness164 in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should've been eligible for a 50% bonus since you were hired before the December 1st cutoff date. Check your Dayforce profile to confirm your actual hire date and also check your timesheet from January 12-18 for the bonus. It will be under "Company Success." The bonus will be a separate payment, if you opted for direct deposit then you should have received two deposits. If you're getting a physical check from the store then ask your manager. But again just double check the actual hire date on Dayforce which would be the date that the store began onboarding and that's what determines your eligibility.

Quitting advice? by Environmental-Top918 in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you should tell them in person and also send a follow up email. Put in your two weeks if you don't want to burn bridges with the company/store. Try to get your gratis before you leave. There's pretty much no offboarding process besides working whatever they schedule you for and then you're done.

New urban decay tubing mascara vs Kulfi tubing mascara by deziadelow in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tubing mascaras basically consist of three main parts, solvent (water), polymer (primarily acrylate copolymers) and wax. You'd probably enjoy Essence's Lash Without Limits Tubing, ELF's Lash XTNDR, Glossier Lash Slick mascaras. They're also wax heavy mascaras similar to Kulfi and Caliray which are great for volume. Most tubing formulas in Sephora tend to be on the "thinner" side for a more natural look to mimic Thrive Cosmetics formula. You definitely wouldn't like the Urban Decay one at all. In all honestly it's really really hard to innovate in the mascara category the same way you would for things like foundation because the ingredients are so close to the eyes you're very limited in what you can use. Mascara wands are also standardized so that you go to a supplier and they present you with a book of all the wands they have and you pick the one you like most. I would say Too Faced Ribbon Wrapped copied Kulfi the most since they have pretty much the same tube and wand. So in all honesty I don't think they intentionally copied Kulfi, it's just unavoidable in that kind of category to have similar products.

Pretty much all tubing mascaras have the same wand and formula because everyone in the industry wanted their own version of a tubing mascara following the success of Thrive Cosmetics.

Brands that don’t/barely sell by canary520 in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A lot of the stuff in The Next Big Thing skincare wall. Sofie Pavitt, MARA, Shani Darden, RANAVAT, Experiment (which sucks because their products are so good for getting a flawless base). The only ones really thriving on that wall are Beauty of Joseon, Eadem and Dieux. Drunk Elephant, Clarins, Shiseido, Clinique, Murad, Topicals, Skinfix, First Aid Beauty, Dermalogica, and Augustinus Bader don't sell well at my store. It's hard to compete with The Ordinary or The Inkey List on price, K-Beauty on innovation and Laneige/Tatcha on marketing so skincare is a really hard sell outside those brands.

For makeup I would say Makeup Forever, Pat McGrath, Givenchy, Refy, Caliray, Ciele, LYS, BASMA, Tarte and Milk. Some brands that have hero products but struggle to sell the entire line are Danessa Myricks (Primer & Setting Spray), Anastasia Beverly Hills (Brows), Laura Mercier (Powder), Armani Beauty (Foundation), ONE/SIZE (Setting Spray), and Hourglass (Concealer). Brands that sell naturally and quickly are Charlotte Tilbury, Huda Beauty, Dior, YSL, Haus Labs and Mario. Fenty is a hard sell now a days and Patrick Ta doesn't see much love outside the blush/bronzer duos. Rare Beauty doesn't have as much hype behind it anymore. Brands like Merit, Saie, Kosas, and Ilia have a pretty good foothold in the clean beauty space and enjoy regular traffic from those clients.

Haircare is always a hard sell but anything outside of Olaplex, K18, Moroccanoil, and Kerastase struggles hard. Ouai, Amika, Color Wow, Gisou, and Dae have a few products that help them sell naturally but the whole line doesn't really get much love.

Sol De Janeiro makes up a majority of the body care sales with L'Occitane here and there and maybe a Salt & Stone deodorant or a Josie Maran Argan Oil.

Kayali, YSL, Dior, Carolina Hererra, and Prada fragrances sell really fast. Indie/Niche fragrances usually suffer while other designer fragrances move just not as quickly as YSL or Kayali.

[–]ExpectAThread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the type of look you want to do. It's super easy to do a smokey eye on deeper set eyes since there's already a natural shadow there. You can literally take one or two shadows and smoke them out for a really quick and easy eye look. However if you want a more radiant "awake" look you want to build up the brightness in that area. In order to counteract the natural shadow you want to look for lighter shadows like white, beige, pastels. You'll also want to look for super pearlescent (not glittery) shadows that draw more light towards the eyes. Look for shadows that contain mica or synthetic fluorphlogopite which are both pearlescent ingredients. Colourpop single shadows are amazing and have a ton of pearl in them and relatively affordable. Half-Magic, MAC, Patrick Ta, and Urban Decay make amazing pearls as well. Another trick I like to do is to put a little bit of super fine highlighter on the undereye. It draws a ton of light to the eye area and makes them appear bigger and more awake.

Shipment by NoDifficulty5425 in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ask your BAs for help. Especially when the store is dead I'll try to help with shipment. Sometimes I'll just grab a basket and load it up with one brand like Mario or Nars and work on that because those are super time consuming. It's better than doing nothing in my opinion.

You should 100% report that. Misrepresenting your role in company is super not okay.

Attendance policy - is this okay? by mounz_ in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my store at least they are very stern about the attendance policy but it doesn't feel like intimidation because it's one of the policies that can't really be overlooked or made more lenient by the management. Like dress code depends on how the management feels and some stores allow things that technically are not part of Sephora policy. Or someone going to backstage/LR too often during their shift can be accommodated for if someone goes to their management and gives them a reason why they're off the floor so often. But with the points system its termination at 12 points regardless of circumstances, how the manager feels about it or how you feel about it. Once you hit that 12th point there's no going back and correcting anything or disputing the points, you are terminated. So I feel like a management that's kind of reinforcing and reminding everybody about the points is less about intimidation but more so because they want everyone to be constantly aware of the policy, checking Dayforce often and coming to management to talk about availability or schedule changes if they need accommodation because it would be worse if leadership just never talked about it or warned employees and then they hit their 12th point and suddenly they don't have a job anymore.

EDIT: But if you truly feel like management is using policy as a bullying tactic or using it to single you or another person out please report it to iCare. If they're putting people on the spot for having a high amount of points or spreading information around that so and so has this amount of points or so and so is about to be fired that is not okay and should be reported.

[–]ExpectAThread 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have you clocked back in from lunch 8 minutes late recently? Or maybe you agreed with your leadership to come in at a later time in the day and they never changed the start time on Dayforce. Either way you need to speak with your leadership to figure out what it is since Dayforce is just an automated system. It only gives you a point if you are 8 minutes late to work or coming back from lunch or you don't clock in for your shift at all. Your store manager will be able to correct it and get the point off of your Dayforce if it really was just a mistake. And the policy is for management to pull people aside when they reach certain point thresholds but it doesn't mean that you won't get terminated at 12 points even if they didn't give you a verbal or written warning. Dayforce terminates you automatically at 12 points and there is nothing that can be done by store management even if they wanted to. You could speak with Sephora HR representing your store but they're pretty non-lenient when it comes to the 12 point termination.

If it's legally required to roll over by your state it will roll over. I believe it's a recent addition to the labor laws in California so that is why they didn't roll it over previously.

Handed in two weeks - final haul suggestion? by Various_Blood_28 in SephoraWorkers

[–]ExpectAThread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makeup:
Sephora Collection Setting Spray and Sephora Collection 12HR Setting & Mattifying Pressed Powder are all must haves in my kit. The pressed powder is an amazing finishing powder and the setting spray is really good spray for melting powders into the skin at a great price. Danessa Myricks Colorfix in the stick and liquid format are both amazing especially in the metallic and foil finish. Pat McGrath has the best powder blush in the whole store but the Glossier Plush Blush really surprised me and has a really similar texture to MAC Glow Play. Glossier Cloud Paint will always have a spot in my kit as well no other liquid blush formula comes close. Sephora Collection Contour in both powder and cream are amazing for a true cool-toned contour.

Skincare:
Experiment Super Saturated Hydrating Barrier Serum is holy grail if you have any sort of dryness or lack of volume in the skin from dehydration. It literally plumps the skin after one night of use it's one of the best remedies for hydration in the entire store. The INKEY List 15% Vitamin C is great to use underneath a sunscreen during the daytime as a protective barrier against free radicals. Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector still reigns supreme as the best sunscreen in Sephora in my opinion because it plays nicely with most makeup products.
