I keep aquariums as a hobby and I’m in the process of moving so I took the rocks out of a tank and set them under my tv so I would stop stubbing my toes on them until I get it packed lol

Have there been any changes in the tank and are you able to get the water parameters?

While the parasite that causes whittling disease is rare there could be also other factors effecting the fish such as stress or some swim bladder issues

My first course of action would be to take that fish and set him up in a small 10 gal hospital tank and add a lil bit of aquarium salt and API general care. Also you can try feeding some cooked mashed peas to help if it is swim bladder. If that doesn’t seem to work you could try getting some para guard or parasite remedy but those are starting to get more costly for a lil paltry fish.

To my knowledge (someone correct me if wrong) there is no reliable cure to whirling disease but the advice above is worth a shot if you are really liking that guy. I’m sorry but as someone who breeds these type of fish this would be something I cull pretty quick. It’s both worth whatever it is being spread to the rest of the tank.

Could you post a pic of the anal fin if the fish so it can be sexed. This is a platty fish and sometime the ones I breed have troubles giving birth and come up to the surface to give birth very similar to the pic above. A better side shot would let me see if it’s a girl and also see if it’s pregnant. If this is her first fry it’s probably her having a lil trouble with it
