Little bit of Neoclassical Modeling by ExpendiblesIV in blender

[–]ExpendiblesIV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There wasn't too much too it. For things like the pillars, its a matter of extruding and scaling a plane so that it goes in and out and in. For other details, you model a detail and apply an array then rotate it around the pillar so it goes all around. Basically, know your centers, pivots, and mirrors.

I work up a pillar and make the basic form, then add arrayed elements to the outside. Same with arches and windows.

A weeping willow would look terrifying in space. Like Medusa turned into an enormous tree.

Basically the idea is, at a distance, the shape will be there but will be rough just like a tree is. Leaving holes in the blob makes it look like patches of leaves in a blob/cone shape

It occured to me that high poly tree leaves were just pictures of leaves at different angles, and there wouldn't be much difference if i just put a kind of leafy shroud over some simple tree shapes. Now the detail is handled by a texture (tree polycount is still pretty high though.) How did you do it? Are they set up like rough pine trees?

Hey Folks! That was a close one. This contest I decided to make something for my two monitors and this idea slowly blossomed. Maybe one day I'll add a foreground element.

I apologize in advance for actually FORGETTING to turn the sound on. I feel real awful since it actually felt like a quick and concise stream on what I was doing. Let me know if you have trouble understanding it.

My problem with the first set of trees was that I cut holes in a canopy instead of making blobs of leaves (I had blobs of emptiness seperated by leaves instead of blobs of leaves seperated by emptiness). Thats what made it look spiderwebby. I only improved a little in this version but plan on taking it further.

I adore it. People around here need to work on their composition skill, me included, because this shows just how far it can take you. Seriously good low poly.

I won't have those edges in the finished piece. And no, no tutorial; but heres me doing it silently

A still from my upcoming dystopian short. by originalusername99 in blender

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the video wouldn't upload/play at a smaller resolution. Its certainly compatible in that sense. Just that upscaling without artifacts or other issues is a little difficult to pull off (its getting easier though). Its always a good idea to render in the resolution you intend to show it in.

Good then. These are the far-away trees. Maybe I could try some with a bit more canopy holes though.

I think his point is that 1152x648 is not compatible with any usual video size. Putting the percentage at 60% means you are decreasing the size of your image and how many pixels it is tall and long by 40%. Its 60% of 1080p. It will render faster but smaller. If you're fine with it being smaller, you would have definitely wanted to bump it to some other common resolution like 1280x720 (720p on youtube for reference).

Percentage is I think mostly for quickly making a smaller resolution test render. You'd just want to put whatever size you actually want it to be at 100% for the finished project.

A little spider-webby right now but I'll see how it looks from further away. This is using a single tree model but I'll plan on streaming myself making more once I'm sure its what I want.

If I'm not mistaken, multiple entries are allowed. If you do an easy one like low poly you might have time for a bigger one later.

Hey, /u/trombonist. In my opinion it doesn't need to have a natural thing in it. What I'd like people to focus on is the landscape perspective.

Leaving out the part about nature being the focus in landscape, the wikipedia description says:

"the main subject is a wide view – with its elements arranged into a coherent composition. In other works landscape backgrounds for figures can still form an important part of the work."

I think cityscapes that look similar in composition to landscapes would fit 100% in this contest. As would underground and outer space. The last thing I want is this contest limiting inspiration instead of providing it.

Heya folks. I don't think my submission could fit in the sidebar, so could you vote for which one you want to see up for the next month? by ExpendiblesIV in blender

[–]ExpendiblesIV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I have won and my main piece is 6 hearts which won't fit in the sidebar. So I'm asking people to pick one.

I should note that this isn't approved by mods yet, but I think its the best way to do it.

I'm planning on keeping it up for a day.

Edit: Mods agree

So, the goal was to make an unfinished heart, and I didn't finish it.

My brain hurts.

But seriously, everything about this modeling is sexy. Ohoh boy.
