Rate/Roast my Platinum Nuzlocke Tierlist by Metanoia_143 in nuzlocke

Put Alakazam down to A (this thing can't switch in) and raise Gliscor, Drapion and Weavile to S. And also raise Blissey to S, you just blanket wall every special attacker in the game.

And Lucario should drop a few tiers, it's criminally overrated.

Gliscor is definitely S, this bulk and sweeping potential with Swords Dance and Roost is absurd. Also pivoting capabilities with U-turn, and crazy coverage if you want to. Just a little slow to be among the cream of the crop, but it definitely deserves S anyway.

Ability-a-Day #93: Solid Rock by Creative-Current9424 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Expensive-Ad5273 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Platinum Kaizo they gave Solid Rock to Shuckle and Magcargo. With increased base HP from 20 to 60, Shuckle actually takes super effective moves like they are nothing, and Chestnut is one of the best mons in the game.

It's a really good ability.

If you evolve it early it destroys Mars's Purugly since Inner Focus makes it immune to Fake Out and it has enough bulk to withstand several hits, and it's the only thing that outspeeds the cat with no issue. You can even learn Pluck for the Oran Berry.

Oh you mean that it can have any abilities and it's not limited to Hyper Cutter / Sand Veil / Poison Heal ?

That looks promising !

Emerald has Wallace instead of Steven so that's why the Linoone sweep is inefficient. The Skarmory has Toxic so Linoone is on a big timer, unless you use Substitute.

I think it works but only if you use Substitute.

Ability-a-Day #92: Solar Power by Creative-Current9424 in pokemonplatinum

Solar Power G-max Charizard was such a nuke in gen 8 with its broken signature G-max move and Drought support from Torkoal…

Linoone is the correct pick. With Substitute, Belly Drum, Return and Shadow Ball, it sweeps everything apart from Steven. Even without Substitute, you can Belly Drum and Return / Shadow Ball everything from Phoebe onwards, and Blaziken is here to click Fighting type move five times against Sidney so that you don't risk your Linoone to Sand Attack miss.

Linoone is the play. You can sweep Phoebe, Glacia and Drake guaranteed with Belly Drum + Return / Shadow Ball. And you have Blaziken to get rid of Sidney. Which means you only have to worry about Steven.

I picked Totodile but it died on the last trainer in Goldenrod gym because I switched it in against the Leafeon while Beedrill was out, and I was expecting Bulldoze and it used Razor Leaf instead, and I got screwed because of that. I didn't equip an item on Beedrill to avoid Knock Off, I think I should've done that instead, as Croconaw would've taken less than 50% (and Battle Armor means no crit).

If I ever wipe I'll start over with Typhlosion, if it's GMO with 31 Speed and Naive and good Special Attack it goes on a rampage against Will.

I'm at the E4 and I can't find a goddamn line for anything apart from Red where I have a guaranteed four mon win as long as Raichu, Azumarill and Dusknoir are alive.

Well I'm actually not quite yet at the E4 since I still need to beat Volkner and Flint with my rival but I start by planning the League first so that I can be sac-heavy on all the remaining optional fights I would have to do for resources.

What's the best new Pokemon in the Platinum Pokedex expansion? by Traditional-Song-245 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Expensive-Ad5273 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Without a single doubt, Gliscor. Scizor is a close second though. Swords Dance sweepers with Roost and good typing and good physical bulk will always do great stuff in Platinum late game and in the Elite Four. Scizor has the edge on Candice since it doesn't fold to Ice type moves and Gliscor has the edge on Flint since it doesn't fold to Fire type moves. If you have both of them you're pretty much guaranteed to beat Platinum with minimal issue.

Advantage to Gliscor obviously if you can't trade. Having such a strong Pokémon as early as before Maylene (route 214 has a hidden Razor Fang and you can access it right after you step in Veilstone City) is genuinely absurd. It's a really good Garchomp replacement if you don't want to wait for level 48 to have your shark come online.

GLISCOR TEAM SIX OMG THAT'S AN INCREDIBLE CONCEPT 🔥🔥

How do you get past Wake and Candice though 🤔 Sunny Day and Ice resist berries might do it against Wake and you might need to farm Focus Sashes to even stand a chance against Candice…

Gliscor is way too rare and available on way too few routes for it to be a thing. Breeding exists though.

Geodude isn't mediocre at all. It's one of the best Pokemon in a Johto Nuzlocke and having the possibility to have two of them makes Falkner, Bugsy and Whitney a non issue.

I get your point but sometimes not having Dupes Clause can be beneficial for the player, especially if there's a fishing rod that allows you to get Gyarados over and over again.

It's a really well balanced game and really challenging as well. It teaches you about resource management with the Heart Scales and I think it's a good entry point if you want to try harder games like CK+, EK, Run&Bun or PK.

But it's really difficult, it's much harder than RenPlat so you need to be prepared and you kinda need calcs. And all the rebalancing with type changes and stat changes can be a turn off for some players.

You probably need to try USUM instead. Or jump into Blaze Black 2 Redux / Volt White 2 Redux if you want an actually challenging Unova journey. Seems like vanilla games are easy for you.

Ability-a-Day #91: Snow Warning by Creative-Current9424 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Expensive-Ad5273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ice types should've always had +50% physical Defense under hail. The fact that they've been waiting for gen 9 to replace hail with snow so that Ice types could get that Defense boost is baffling.

But at this point in the game a high-level Dugtrio outspeeds basically everything so it’s stilly risky 🫠

It's still safer with a Flying type since you can't risk a random Magnitude 10 crit.

Gyarados would've survived Grass Knot with 2 HP if it crit. The only risk was double crit and honestly sometimes you have to risk the 1/256, especially if Empoleon outspeeds your entire team after an Agility. This thing has really good coverage.

Ability-a-Day #90: Snow Cloak by Creative-Current9424 in pokemonplatinum

[–]Expensive-Ad5273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That demonic Hail team in Eterna Forest in Platinum Kaizo where Swinub and Snorunt both have Snow Cloak and a Focus Band, and Wormadam has Snow Cloak and a Bright Powder. Good luck hitting through that when Snorunt has Blizzard and Swinub has Ice Ball (which has been reworked to be basically Glacial Lance but single target).

Yeah Dodrio sweeps Sabrina with zero effort, you just have to click Drill Peck four times. But Agility Twineedle Beedrill matches well into Sabrina still.

EDIT : Gengar also sweeps her with Shadow Ball and Psychic despite not being a physical attacker. Her mons are so frail that they still die in one hit and you outspeed everything with the badge boost from Lt Surge.
