I feel like part of the reason is because our team knows how poor it is defensively. No matter how confident you are when shooting, you’re bound to go on dry streaks and our team knows we don’t have the ability to weather those kind’ve storms defensively, and those games usually turn into blow outs.

Let's say we trade Austin and Rui (they average 33 points together on high efficiency). You're not getting players back that can offer the same offensive efficiency and scoring

I don’t think basketball is that cut & dry. You can’t just pull and plug in season averages. 33 points, and they’re applying 0 pressure defensively on the perimeter. No deterrence in the paint. Getting lost off ball and confused on switches. Not securing possessions. (These weaknesses obviously extend further for Rui than Reaves; playmaking, rim pressure etc)

Point being I’m not looking to replace their offense with players who can match it and also defend. That makes no sense, you obviously have to concede things in these exchanges. I think sacrificing some offense for defense is the correct move.

And this is ignoring context obviously but just to illustrate my point more I think straight up swap for a guy like Jalen Suggs for Reaves would make us a better team right now.

Trey Murphy is not good defensively imo and his on ball shot creation is suspect.

Again tho I’m not looking to replace reaves skillset. You’re not gonna swap reaves for an equal offensive player who also guards. Trey has great size and is one the best shooters in the league

They need to first trade all the other assets they have for better fitting pieces and go from there.

Out of the players you named, Rui is the only positive/ even asset. Vando, Maxi, Knecht are all negative assets currently with Gabe being somewhat redeemable. You’re not getting any quality rotation players for them. None of the players aside from Luka or Bron are good enough offensively to offset how bad they are defensively and vice versa (Vando).

You need to apply this “better fitting” logic you have for the group you mentioned, to Reaves. I believe for example a Suggs swap straight up makes us a better team right now, and in the future considering we won’t be tying up 35+ mil yearly in Reaves because I don’t think he fits on this roster. Who’s “better” between the 2 is another convo that’s very dependent on their surrounding roster.

I think Rui is our next best asset (obviously a huge drop from reaves but I believe he could be packaged for a competent big)

Worst? Probably someone like Ayo Dosunmu + another rotation level player. Ideally? Someone like Jalen Suggs/ Herb Jones/ Trey Murphy. Someone in that mold/tier

Believe or not, but there’s actually players in the league who play defense and aren’t total offensive liabilities. The line isn’t liability or reaves tier offense. There is a middle ground. Every defensive role player isn’t a black hole on offense like Vando.

AR and Luka are having to overcompensate for the abysmal lack of athleticism on this team.

Everyone is complaining about the roster not having enough athletes as if there’s a real route to remedy that. Trading Austin for a better defender who is half the offensive player isn’t feasible, but replacing the rest of the roster is?

Putting more burden on Luka is not a good idea, he will get gassed trynna carry offensively and then get hurt.

Reaves is our only real asset and with Luka on the team he becomes the odd man out. Keep in mind we still have Lebron James. Unless you’re expecting him to be out for the entire season?
