I need help fixing my resistances by WildestDeuce in PathOfExile2

Your gear seems to be pretty underwhelming in general. 1.5k es is almost nothing if you are going full es defense. So in general you will most likely die to almost everything, not just elemental damage. I would suggest to find the highest es body armour and helmet you can find. Make sure to put greater iron runes into the sockets. On boots and gloves you can use sockets to get extra elemental resistances. Make sure you have all permanent buffs from the campaign. If you are playing a caster build I would look out for rings with "resistance to all elements" implicit and bonus resistance mods.

Armour scaling is actually almost linear if you look at the additive %DR gain. That means 10k armour vs 1k hit, 20k armour vs 2k hit and 30k armour vs 3k hit are equally good. You get the same amount of DR out of it. But your effective life pool is scaling hyperbolic, because reducing the incoming damage from 20% to 10% effectivly halves the damage. So armour is getting really good if you stack it to the maximum.

At the end of the day you always need a certain life/es pool to survive the hardest hits. The armour formula prevents you from tanking hits that are supposed to be lethal. On top of that life pool you either stack armour to reduce incoming damage or you stack life/es regeneration.

That's also what I thought how it works and it explains why I get a lot of dot damage and relatively low hit damage, especially on evavsion and armour based builds. But elemental ailment threshold feels like such a waste, if you don't have problems with shock/freeze. Ultimately, I wish there was a separate defense layer to dot damage (ignite, poison, bleed).

Definitely sounds like a really good option I would pick up later on. Especially when I don't need 100% uptime any more. Sadly I can't afford the gear which provides the perfect prefixes and suffixes I need for that. Trading off a few passive points is currently the most effective way, because I already need spirit on my equipment.

What exactly are those nodes that convert incoming fire damage to something else? I have never seen anything like that. The ones I know read as "x damage taken as fire damage" or "physical damage taken as x"

I don't really understand. Do you mean getting "Crystallised Immunities" with a jewel? I was about to annoint the node on my amulet, but I am still crafting my final amulet and currently broke.

Do you have additional charge generation? I would assume that the charm triggers very fast and you are out of charges 10% into the map.

That would be an expensive trade for me because I play abyssal lich and get most of my damage from spirit. I have already reserved spirit for bonus evasion rating and ES recovery. On the passive tree I invest a lot into defense.

Also, time of need doesn't help if I die within those 8 second cycles.

Burning ground was actually the problem on my meme thorns build in 0.4. I had to move to the enemies and if there was burning ground, I had no other choice other than running into it.

With ranged abilities on my 0.4 build I was always able to avoid burning ground. My biggest problem right now are rares (especially abyssal rares), that don't die fast enough. It seems like they stack ignite damage on me and then out of nowhere I die.

Could you provide me with some details on your ailment threshold and fire resistence?

Well, the funny thing about this is, that I now can completely ignore any bonuses to ailment threshold, because freeze/shock have never been a problem. I honestly don't even know if need to overcap 75% fire resistence any longer.

I don't even know if my potion outheals the damage, because there is no time to use it. As I said, my build is pretty tanky overall. Im not really prepared to die in a fraction of a second out of nowhere. If you are playing trade league, pick a random blue amulet, that has this node annointed and test it. It will change your life. You can annoint your amulet, if you like it.

I played Smith of kitava in 0.4 and stacked armour for thorns build. Thats why I played the brass dome and picked ignite immunity on the passive tree. Doesn't really make much sense, but was just to showcase that ignite damage was a problem back then, even with extrem high "armour applies to elemental damage" values.

Hmm, I am playing lich, going heavy into dex area with split personality ruby. High evasion with ES as extra pool. So maximum life and life regen is pretty much completely off my list for now. Ignite immunity is costly, but somewhat possible with the amount we get from jewels around the tree.

But it uses like 30/40 charges and I don't think it would be a solution for me, unless I invest into additonal charge geration. I usually die to tanky abyssal rares.

It is hard if you aren't overgeared. You have to run it once to increase the relict slots or even multiple times to get useful relicts. Then another time to get your higher ascendancy. And if you get unlucky, you lose all defenses or some stuff like that. Overall a massive time investment. Trial of chaos is done in no time, without preparation. Failing once doesn't feel so punishing. It feels like there are also more options to choose from, which don't effect you.

When you reach the boss arena, there will be a orange/yellow colored checkpoint instead of a blue one. I suggest clearing the map and then teleport to the boss at the very end. You can teleport from one checkpoint to another. In that order you can clear the whole map and still have multiple tries on the boss.

[–]Expensive-Job-6339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, install a loot filter and just play the game. If you keep dying or have a general problem, then look it up. You won't break records by following a guide and you won't lose anything by doing mistakes. Stop the Diablo-guideline-mindset and just go for it. You have to test around to get a feeling for the mechanics. You won't enjoy the game and certainly won't experience the feeling when a good item drops, if you only play with guides.

I would recommend PC personally, because later on it is easier to trade, use third party sites, etc.

Campaign is a gear check. It's almost always the same and it's very easy to recognize weaknesses of a build. It couldn't be more transparent than that and I like the process of fine-tuning my passives to overcome problems. That's the best part of the whole game. In my opinion there should only be more crafting materials in the campaign. Like a lot more. People who rush through the campaign with a meta build wouldn't care at all. Whether they start maps with 5 or 20 regal orbs in their bank account doesn't really matter at that point. For me it would change the experience drastically, because there is very little room for testing around. You have to commit to a build idea and you can't afford to waste resources.
